Podcast Description

Super-nurse Jackie Peyton reached the end of her rope at the end of season 3 of the Showtime Original Series, NURSE JACKIE. Her marriage was in shambles, her addiction was raging, and her friends and coworkers were more than suspicious of her antics and half-baked lies. It turns out karma's a bitch. Now out of tricks, out of excuse and out of control, Jackie finally has to seek help. But coming clean won't be easy. As Jackie's about to learn, the truth is a hell of a drug.

I enjoyed many components, but the whole leaves a bitter taste

I understand the current trend of the flawed but righteous antihero is a result of getting sick of Perfect McEveryman as a protagonist in every show, but I think the other shoe's dropping here. Jackie's just a little too hard to root for in her crusade to be a modern day Robin Hood in scrubs, (no, I'm serious, she literally steals money from a rich pimp and gives it to a deceased patient's broke girlfriend) when she's involved in an illicit affair, substance abuse and fraud. It's really a shame because most of these characters are brilliantly fleshed out, just with strap-on drama, and a lot of the laughs were genuinely achieved gutbusters. There are times when I want to be challenged as a viewer, but Nurse Jackie hits that button a little too much.

edie is brilliant!

are there seriously nurses out there who are seriously giving this show low ratings because they're afraid of the image the show will give the profession?? give me a BREAK. it is a television show for entertainment, not a recruitment documentary to encourage people to join the field. if you can't get the middle finger flip off from the fist & syringe on the promo graphics and understand the underlying message before even watching the show, then you probably should not be in a profession that needs to pay attention to detail.

great first impression?

I was so excited that there would be a comedy dedicated to the nurses instead of the doctors for a switch. Maybe it would even inspire people to go into the profession to help the shortage (how many people wanted to do forensics when CSI came out??). But it was somewhat offensive to see the first spotlight is of a nurse with a God/doctor complex who tries to boss everyone around, sleep with doctors/radiologist, and is addicted to narcotics. Not what I was hoping for.
