Podcast Description

Included here are the Bowery Boys back catalog of shows from our first year. If you'd like to hear our new episodes, simply search for New York City History: The Bowery Boys and subscribe. New York City history is America's history. It's the hometown of the world, and most people knows its familiar landmarks, buildings and streets. Why not look a little closer and have fun while doing it? The Bowery Boys, Greg Young and Tom Meyers, have lived in New York for the last fifteen years and have been curious about the city since the day they arrived. Join them for a fun take on history, a "romp down the back alleys of New York City." Each week, they look into another fascinating aspect of the Big Apple -- the people, the places, its beginnings and effects on American culture.

New and improved!

It's worth noting that these episodes have both improved audio fidelity AND include images to further enhance the podcasts. Great job all around: personable, interesting, in-depth look at the city that John Lennon compared to ancient Rome in it's greatness. I'm originally from Brooklyn (living now in Charlottesville, Virginia), and I enjoy history brought to life. I'm happy to have these programs and I listen to each one as soon as they become available. Thanks Greg & Tom! Best Regards, Dan (aka Black Hole Gang)

The dakota

As an ex-new Yorker and NY history buff, I find these podcasts informative and entertaining. A lot of fun! But beware: listening to them is like eating potato chips... you won't be satisfied with just one!

I LOVE this podcast

I would give it 5 stars except that I want them to go on for so much longer each show. I know it's a labor of love, and they have actual lives, but if there was a way to raise money for them to do 2 person podcasts more often, that just rambled about old new york and made silly puns and all that...well I can't say I can give anything, because I'm overdrawn at the bank as it is but maybe other people could. I want more more more. I love these guys. I know they have a very proficient blog, but it would be awesome to see them step up to an AAC feed where they could put the pics in with the story, and I know that takes some cash and time....and time and cash. Oh heck I'll give it 5 anyway if it helps them give us more great podcasts. As a NYer that's drifted off from the motherland, it gives me such great reconnection. Also I know what caissons are now. among many many other things. Thank you and keep giving us stories of New York.
