Reading from Balticon 44 | Here is the audio from my reading at Balticon 44. Tee Morris joined me for an impromptu audio drama reading of Chapter 13 from Murder at Avedon Hill. If you have not listened to the podcast novel, there aren't really any big spoilers here. It was fun, we didn't take it too seriously, and everyone seemed to have a good time. Enjoy! Promo for The Leviathan Chronicles (http://leviathanchronicles.com) finale follows the reading. July 4th Revisited – Patrick Henry’s “Give Me Liberty” | I recorded this a couple of years ago and like to pull it back out for new listeners around July 4th. On March 23, 1775, at St. John's Henrico Parish Church in Richmond, Patrick Henry spoke to the House of Burgesses. His speech changed the minds and hearts of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and became a beacon of freedom for all of America. Happy Independence Day, everyone. Thank you to Nathan Lowell for his introduction at the beginning of this audio file. Be sure to check out his Golden Age of the Solar Clipper (http://podiobooks.com/podiobooks/search.php?keyword=golden+age+of+the+solar+clipper) novels over at Podiobooks.com. The image is a cropped image from Peter F. Rothermel's "Patrick Henry Before the Virginia House of Burgesses," from 1851. MaAH Special Edition: Interview with Howard Tayler | (http://balticon.org)(http://www.pgholyfield.com/maah/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/PaintHoward.jpg)Balticon was wonderful--best convention I've ever attended. One of the many reasons for this (which I'll detail in an upcoming audio update) was the forty-five minutes I got to spend with Howard Tayler. Howard is the creator of the Schlock Mercenary (http://schlockmercenary.com) web-comic, a host on the Writing Excuses (http://writingexcuses.com) podcast, and the Artist Guest of Honor at Balticon this year. We talked about storytelling within the medium of 'sequential art,' Writing Excuses, pacing within different mediums, and a little about the talk Howard gave at Balticon on education and on becoming a better creator, no matter the medium. Thanks to Howard for being patient with someone that obviously had less than a good grasp of web-comic terminology (I referred to panels as boxes throughout the interview :-) ). Promo at the end of the episode is for Prisoners of the Alliance (http://www.scrivenerscircle.com/). | 6/5/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Tales of the Children – Ep. #4 – Big Axe, Small Hands – Dan Absalonson | Tales of the Children - A Land of Caern short story podcast anthology presented by P.G. Holyfield (http://www.pgholyfield.com/maah/archives/category/podcast/tales-of-the-children-podcast) Tonight, as we approach the book launch of Murder at Avedon Hill, we have a Tales of the Children story written and produced by Dan Absalonson (http://writingsofdan.blogspot.com). A few weeks ago Dan asked if he could produce the audio for his own podcast, and knowing I wouldn't be getting to his story for several months, I said "Go for it!" For a first audio podcast episode, Dan did a wonderful job with the production. Big Axe, Little Hands is a fun story about one of the smaller races of Caern, and an incarnation of one of the Children of Az we haven't seen in audio form thus far. I hope you enjoy the story, and check back later today for the release of an interview I did with Jack Mangan over at his Deadpan Podcast. 0:00 - Intro Chatter * Short intro of Dan Abaslonson's short story, Big Axe, Small Hands. 2:00 - Big Axe, Small Hands Join Halvard the Halfling as he journeys to find the way of the warrior, running into trouble along the way, and meeting races he's only heard tell of in the story told around the community fire in his small village. The live show will be on Wednesday, March 24, at 9:00 pm Eastern time. As a good Irishman (at least a 1/4 of me, anyways), I'll be helping him bring The Seanachai to a fitting end. He'll be sharing a true story of gun play, injury, and I'm sure he will deliver it with the humor and style that has made The Seanachai one of the best fiction/essay podcasts ever produced. Tales of the Children – Audio Ep. #3 – First Blood – Alex Briggs | Tales of the Children - A Land of Caern short story podcast anthology presented by P.G. Holyfield (http://www.pgholyfield.com/maah/archives/category/podcast/tales-of-the-children-podcast) Before I go any further, it must be said/written. I'm not happy with this episode. The story is top notch; the reading is solid; good use of music and effects. The issue is with the audio quality of the reading. I made a rookie mistake (which I won't detail here) that affected the final output file. Whew... I feel better. Let's get back to the show. 0:00 - Intro Chatter * Lots of news... will update this with a bullet list later. 7:00 - First Blood - Alex Briggs A nearly lifelong relationship between a particular human and an orc is played out before our eyes... or ears, rather. 25:00 - Promo Jake Bible - Dead Mech (http://jakebible.com/) 26:00 - Outro Chatter Please visit The Boom Effect (http://www.theboomeffect.org/?page_id=2) to learn more about the charity that has sprung up to support Tee Morris and his daughter. Holyfield (http://www.pgholyfield.com/maah/archives/category/podcast/tales-of-the-children-podcast) Yes, I was finally able to finish the audio version of "The Old God and The Sea," by Patrick E. McLean. Contrary to initial plans for this podcast, I'm giving each episode the star treatment it deserves. Which of course means the episodes will be released when they get released. 0:00 - Intro Chatter * We are still having a lot of fun doing Live Video Readings of new TotC stories over at Stickam.com (http://stickam.com/pgholyfield) - Tonight we have a story by Philippa Ballantine (http://pjballantine.com). * The audio versions of the episodes will be released after the video episodes, so if you want to get them first, come on over to the live show (every other Wednesday evening at 9:30 pm Eastern). 4:40 - The Old God and the Sea - Patrick E. MaAH Special Edition: Behind the Scenes – Gabrielle Harbowy, Pt. 2 | Today we have our next "Behind the Scenes" episode leading up to the print release of Murder at Avedon Hill. This is Pt.2 of my interview with Gabrielle Harbowy (http://www.gabrielle-edits.com/), my editor with Dragon Moon Press (http://dragonmoonpress.com). Gabrielle was also the author of the first Tales of the Children story, "Swimming Lessons." Excuse the low sound quality of this episode. We recorded in a room at the Atlanta Hilton during Dragon*Con and there was a lot of noise that didn't clean up very well. But it is listenable, and the interview itself turned out great. | 22 | VideoThe Land of Caern Vidcast – Ep. 1 – Part 2 | On October 7th Patrick McLean and I did a live reading of his Tales of the Children short story, "The Old God and the Sea." After the reading we did a Q&A with Chooch (Chooch was on skype). To make the video a little more fun, especially since Patrick's story was a bit of a comedy, I've added some pop-up elements that hopefully add some humor to the video, and it also helps those watching the video understand what was going on in the Stickam chat room before the reading and during the Q&A. This video is Pt. 2 (the Q&A). I tried to include something for everyone in this video. Give it a watch and see what I mean. For those that want separate feeds for audio and video, that is coming soon, along with a site redesign. < Get the Flash Player (http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer) to see this video. // | 10/9/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

To make the video a little more fun, especially since Patrick's story was a bit of a comedy, I've added some pop-up elements that hopefully add some humor to the video, and it also helps those watching the video understand what was going on in the Stickam chat room before the reading and during the Q&A. This video is Pt. 1 (the intro and the reading). Pt. 2 will be released in the feed tomorrow. For those that want separate feeds for audio and video, that is coming soon, along with a site redesign. MaAH Special Edition: Parsec Finalist Chris Lester | As promised, I decided to interview the other four finalists in the Best Audio Drama Long Form Category at this year's Parsec Awards (http://parsecawards.com). While I'm ultimately hoping to sabotage all of my competitors by getting them to admit to something horrible... like drinking Miller Lite... or kicking puppies... I'm afraid all I'm really good at is making sure people learn more about these wonderful creators. Here is the last of my four interviews, this one with the creator, writer and producer of The Metamor City Podcast (http://metamorcity.com), Chris Lester. Chris and I chat about Metamor City, our battles as nemesises... nemeses... whatever... about what he is doing next... and focus on his unfortunate arrest in Amsterdam last year. ;-P Enjoy! MaAH: Special Edition – Interview with Seth Harwood | I interviewed Seth a month ago and finally got the audio cleaned up enough to release. It's not the best recording, but there's a lot of good content here from one of the best podcasters in the business, Seth Harwood. “Jack Wakes Up rocks! It’s a fast, smooth ride on a highway not found on any map.” -- Michael Connelly, #1 New York Times bestselling author “Readers who like their hard-boiled crime fiction violent and gritty will cheer Harwood’s debut -- taut prose and fast pacing bode well for future entries in the series.” -- Publisher’s Weekly Seth and I talk about his podcast novels, his journey to having Jack Wakes Up published (twice), his former job on the floor of the stock market in NYC, his teaching career, Author Bootcamp, HotTub Cast... and much much more! Enjoy, and look for my first of four interviews with the other Parsec finalists in the category of Best Audio Drama Long Form, posting tomorrow. | 42 | VideoMurder at Avedon Hill Video Promo | Hello folks. Sorry I've been away for a while. I've been battling computer viruses, conducting a job search, and dealing with family stuff over the last few weeks and episode 39 was moved lower on the priority list for a time. I am back at editing now, so expect another audio episode soon. One thing I finished recently that I've been working on here and there for over a year is a video promo. I can do a few things in Flash but nothing I was putting together for MaAH was appealing to me. Enter the website Animoto.com. (http://animoto.com) With animoto you upload your photos, drawings, etc., add text, add music, and then it spits out a video for you. The only drawback is you have no real control over the transitions used, so your only recourse if you don't like how something looks is to re-render the whole thing and see if it turns out the way you want it. After a lot of tries I came up with the video you see here. If you like it, please embed it, promote it, put the file on your site or in your podcast feed, etc. I'd be honored. If you want to embed it, please let me know and I'll send you the code. If you don't want to email me, I have a version of the video on youtube (http://animoto.com/play/ocDZnGZYXA4Nslmtd7DNVg) that you can grab, but the video doesn't look as good on youtube (you can make the video look better when embedding though by changing the resolution of the video). This is the first time I'm placing a video in my feed. Hopefully no one will have issues.
