CleanEpisode 25: Why, You Haven't Heard of Sara France? | @PPE 2010 "Hey, I'm Sara" "Oh hey, I'm Karlo.....what's your last name?" "France" "Oh.....wow.....you're pictures are on my computer" Sara France does a lot. And when I say a lot I don't mean like, she books 50 weddings a year a lot. She shoots weddings, has a solid relationship with Apple (her photos are on the new iPad), you can also see her mug over at ShootDotEdit,Pictage, and she's the lady behind GoBee Bags. In this episode we not only find out who she is and what she's all about, but we also prodded her a bit to find out who we are and what we're all about "the new photographer". She gives us sage advice through her own experience, a bit of background on her experience coming up in the industry, and some insight on when to make the decision to do go full-time (when you're ready). Also mentioned in this Episode: George Varanakis ; ) Sara Hooks It Up for PAPA Listeners: PAPAFRANCE ($10 OFF) my full Aperture Training DVD PAPA ($5 OFF) Any Training Sara's Favorite Gear • Canon 5d MKII • Canon 24 f/1.4 • Canon 50 f/1.2 • Canon 85 f/1.2 • Canon 580 EX II • GoBee bags | 1/13/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanEpisode 24: Wedding Film Shooter Jose Villa | Jose Villa's on the show! We <3 Jose Villa mucho. A little background: Jose is a film shooter from Santa Barbara, CA and has been widely published in Bride's Magazine & Southern Weddings. In this episode we talk about FILM! "What's film?" you may be asking.....well there whipper-snapper, film is the predecessor upon which all photography is built. It may be the "hip" thing to do now, but the fact is you should know the principals of photography regardless of what format you're shooting on. We talk about the mindset and process of a film shooter along with how pertinent it is in a digital world. Jose's Favorite Gear • Contax 645 • Contax 80mm f/2.0 • Canon EOS 1D • Canon 35mm f/1.4 | 12/27/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanEpisode 23: Sales w/ Photography Studio Owner Ben Reeder | Sales. Blech. Wouldn't it be nice if customers would just walk in, say "I want that, that, & that. Here's a check" That would be amazing. Alas, life is not so. In this episode we talk about the best ways to offer your products & services without getting that icky feeling associated w/ used car salesman. Sales is not about tricking your customer! It's about showing what you have to offer, finding out what they want, and making offerings accordingly. Ben's Favorite Gear • Nikon D300 • Nikon 50mm f/1.4 • Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8 • Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 • Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 • Nikon SB900 • Lightroom 3.0 | 12/17/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanEpisode 22: PhotoPlus Expo 2010 Recap | The Recap Episode We recently sent Karlo to NYC to cover the PDN PhotoPlus Expo. If you're not sure what that is, it's one of the largest photography conferences and exhibitions in the world and definitely the largest on the East coast covering all genres of photography. Karlo partied at the DWF Platinum party, covered the exhibition, and rubbed elbows with some of the big names. Unfortunately, none of the audio came back and we are forcing Karlo to wear the dorky headphones from now on while conducting interviews to ensure the device is actually recording. Eh, C'est la vie. I'm sure that some of those that were recorded impromptu were actually relieved that the audio didn't come back . *nudge nudge*. Anyways, we wanted to compile a list of some of our favorite "Stand-Out" vendors from the trade show floor. These are exhibitors that you may not have known about before but should definitely check out cause they are doing some cool stuff. **I would like to re-iterate that we are receiving no sponsorship money from any of these vendors. 1. LaCie - Big storage at a not so big price. We've all heard of that data company that rhymes with "Growdough" but you may not have heard of some of the nightmarish stories that have been murmuring across the net (check out this thread and don't blame us if you lose sleep). 2. Adorama - We love Joel Meisels! 3. Artsy Couture - Canvases that literally "pop-out" at you. An interesting addition to any portrait photographer's product offerings. 4. Drop It Modern - Canvas backdrops don't have to be lame and Drop It Modern proves it. 5. Life. Camera. Actions - Action sets from west coast phenom Brett Jarnagin. More steeze less cheese (in your photos that is). 6. Microsync Digital - Smaller than a Pocket Wizard, more functions than a Pocket Wizard, 1/2 the price. 7. Sun Sniper - I want my camera strap constructed by German Engineers. Thank you. Bonus: FroKnowsPhoto.com - We're still trying to figure these guys out. Camera reviews + Huge Jewish Afro + Strong Opinions = FroKnowsPhoto **Listen to the episode to find out how to win a schwag bag from Papa Podcast! Includes a camera strap from SmugMug Pro, a card wallet fromThinkTank, & an action suite from Life. Camera. Actions ($300 value) | 11/2/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanEpisode 19: Photographer & Podcaster Louis Torres | What can I say about Louis Torres? He's a podcaster w/ "For Wedding Photographers", is a successful NY based wedding photographer, & he's on PDN's list of "Top 30 Most Influential Photographer's of the Past Decade". Not a bad resume. This episode was recorded on July 27th, 2010. Louis has 37 weddings booked for 2010, over 20 for 2011, and a few for 2012 already making him a prime candidate to have his brain picked by Derek and I and that's just what we do. | 9/1/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanEpisode 18: Photographer Jeremy Hess | In this episode we speak with Lancaster photographer Jeremy Hess. Jeremy has owned and operated his studio "Jeremy Hess Photographers" for the past 8 years and works in weddings, portraiture, and editorial. This episode was recorded on May 4th, 2010 (stocking up episodes for the ongoing wedding season) but I think the conversation is still relevant. We discuss a blog post by Tofurious entitled "The State of the Wedding Industry Address". Basically the equation has changed. There has been a large influx of new photographers due to the affordability of equipment and the ease of social media marketing. How is this going to affect the industry? How many of these new photographers will last? Are their business skills good enough to create a sustainable income? | 8/30/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanEpisode 14: Wedding | To term Darrell Aubert as a videographer is asking for a clever and possibly scathing retort. Darrell prefers to refer to himself as a "filmmaker", as the term "videographer" tends to recall terrible images and crimes against art induced by past violators of the craft. | 5/25/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanEpisode 10: Pittsburgh Photog, Coach, & Mentor David Burke | More-so than the word networking, I prefer the term "relationship building". Chances are, you have a list of photographers whom you admire, follow, and would love to actually get to know better. In this episode, Derek and myself speak with David Burke about the concepts and challenges of establishing a working relationship with photographers that have more experience. These are people that can help you navigate the sometimes tumultuous waters of being a photographer in business for yourself. In addition, David has a new profile video (which you can see at his website link below) and this leads us into talking about the importance of the relationship building process. Toward the end of the interview, David discusses his involvement with "Thirst Relief", an organization that brings fresh water to communities around the world. They have just released a training DVD where 100% of the proceeds go to this fund (link below). More David: Website, Blog, Twitter Thirst Relief Training DVD | 3/22/10 | Free | View In iTunes |
