ExplicitEpisode 10 Katrina Coleman | Katrina is a comic, a mom and a malcontent. She’s among the organizers of the Memphis Roast Club and in turn, the first Memphis Comedy Festival happening February 16th through the 19th at Theater Works. We talked about her early days rocking open mics, live tweeting the birth of her second child and being a funny person sans p***s (is that delicate? I think it sounds delicate) in a world dominated by dudes. Also we crack on the Amish. That’s always worth a listen. Check her out on twitter or go stare Jackie’s boss photos or me Thanks! | 2/13/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitEpisode 9 Amie Vanderford | Holy smokes, we’re back! by Jackie Ellison After a three-month hiatus the show you totally forgot about has returned with slightly more professionalism! We’ve got a new recording rig, legal music courtesy of former guests Bill Perry and old friend Andy Boston and a great guest to start of version 2.0 of the People I Know. My guest is international do-good photographer Amie Vanderford. She just got back from a massive trip to Peru and the Amazon documenting the natural world and indigenous people. She’s working on a book and you can check out some of her photos on her website. It was a great time to catch her for a chat. Hope you like it. As usual, Jackie Ellison acted as my photog and I can’t thank him enough for it. | 1/17/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitEpisode 8 Eric Tate | Eric Tate makes movies. Memphians and film buffs will probably remember him from Craig Brewer’s first film, The Poor and the Hungry. Back in 2000, the debut was a local sensation. If you haven’t seen the film, Eric turned a hell of a performance for someone who hadn’t really been in a feature length film before. Try to catch it if you can. After a several year absence, Eric is back producing, directing, writing and even acting in some projects. Eric, Chad Barton and Shelby Baldock at Piano Man Pictures have made some great shorts this year. Solitary Metz and Am I Emboldened by the reception from their shorts, the crew has launched a Kickstarter campaign to make a feature length film entitled Lights, Camera, B******t. It looks like an immensely worthy and fun project. You should go drop off a twenty or three at their Kickstater page. I sat down with Eric and talked about what it was like to be involved with the whirlwind of indie success, deciding to commit his life to moviemaking and where film is going. Eric was a good sport and put up with me as well as could be expected considering we were both bone sober and drinking coffee on a Sunday afternoon. thanks as usual go out to our badass photog Jackie Ellison who is killing it every. damn. day. Hope you like it, Ed | 10/26/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitEpisode 7 Lou Goggans | Lou Goggans is coming up. He’s a student journalist and the current intern at the Memphis Flyer. He’s confident, talented and full of positive energy. Lou is an incredibly earnest person. He knows that he wants to write and he knows that future for someone who works hard and stays positive is always sunny and I admit, I’m totally envious. Often times, we get sidetracked into s****y points of view and a negative outlook. I know I do. I’m heartened by people who want to and believe they can make a difference. Lou’s one of those guys. Follow Lou on Twitter, or better yet go check out his recent cover story for the Memphis Flyer. | 9/8/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitEpisode 6: Richard Alley | Richard Alley is a writer. He writes the “Because I Said So” parenting column for the Memphis Commercial Appeal and has written for pretty much every publication of note in the area. You should check out his stuff in the River Times insert in the current issue of Memphis magazine, it’s really good. We talked about how he went from chauffeur to cigar store owner to freelancer, his family roots and writing as a calling as well as a job. I really enjoyed the interview, it was a pleasure to talk to him. Some announcements. I wanted to take a few minutes to welcome Jackie Ellison from Itchy Shutter Finger to the “People I Know” fold. Jackie’s site is dedicated to Memphis street photography. I enjoy his work over there. You should too. Jackie will be helping with the site’s images. I wanted to get a more cohesive look and he was kind enough to volunteer his time and talent. Big thank you to him. I’d really appreciate if you take a second and subscribe to the show in iTunes. There’s a link on the show page or you can search “People I Know” in the podcast section of iTunes. It’s a big help. ExplicitEpisode 5: Mo Alexander | Mo Alexander is funny. That is, in fact, his job. For the last sixteen years Mo has paid the rent as a standup comic. We passed the time talking about being a comic without a comedy club, the skills of performance and the moment when a performer lets go. It sounds heady but we swear and talk about comedy, so its fun! I enjoyed the interview quite a bit and I think you will too. Be certain to check out Mo’s website Slap the Stupid as well as his twitter and Facebook feeds. If he’s performing near you, go see him and bring Tequila. ExplicitEpisode 4: Steve Ross | Steve Ross is a blogger. He is the local political writer behind the impressively deep Vibinc site. Recently the local daily announced a paywall and Steve wrote up one of the best local pieces about it. I thought that was as good an excuse as any to haul him in, mic him up and make him talk. We talked about blogging as an alternative to traditional journalism, media conglomerates and our culture’s feeling of entitlement. The last few episodes have stretched longer and longer, so I thought I’d try to make this on a bit more easy to swallow. Because of that you may hear a rough edit or two and for that, I’m sorry. I’m still learning as I go. Thanks for being patient with me. You can read Steve’s posts, here or follow him on Twitter, here. You should, he’s good at the internet. | 6/14/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitEpisode 3: Bill Perry | Bill is a musician. Bill always has been a musician. The idea of being an artist is so ingrained into his character that he doesn’t even know what he’d be otherwise. If you’ve seen a band in Oxford Mississippi in the last twenty years, there’s a thirty percent chance that you’ve seen Bill. The list of bands and musical projects that Bill’s been a part of is so long that trying to list them would be silly. Right now you can hear him as part of his self-named group “The Bill Perry trio” Bill Perry trio on Thacker Bill and I go way back. It was great to sit catch up, have a beer and ask him some questions I’d never thought to ask when were were kids. His father Bill Perry Sr. (aka Howl-N-Madd) was a session musician for Chess records. He played with Little Milton, Johnnie Taylor, Willie Dixon among plenty of others. Music is in Bill’s DNA and he’s carrying it on. In this episode we talk about the bravery of artistry, the love of hip hop and what’s really important. Be sure to check out Bill’s music ASAP Bill Perry on people I Know | 5/10/11 | Free | View In iTunes |
