CleanFinancial Planning for Freelancers (Russell Dunkin) | After reading this Justin Kownacki post: http://www.justinkownacki.com/2011/04/05/why-im-reinventing-myself-a-financial-awakening-at-33/ I had the idea of presenting ideas on how freelancers can manage their resources. I've been to the past 2 podcamps, and realize this isn't the typical session, but feel a good portion of the audience could benefit from focusing on their finances. This would be a general session, and free of any products or sales. Purely informational. Please contact me if you think it fits and we can fine tune the idea to represent the attendees. CleanSession: "Tools, not Toys: Teaching Practical Social Media Use in Jour | Tools, not Toys: Teaching Practical Social Media Use in Journalism and Beyond Does the seeming social media savvy of your students leave you wondering how you can teach these people? While your students may log on to Facebook every hour, few have given thought to applying that experience to practical ends. A successful educator can show students how to link the ideas behind social media with existing fundamentals. This session will address the challenges of incorporating social media into a journalistic curriculum (but all are welcome), whether at the high school or college level. Several concrete examples of teaching exercises will be explored that will help you get your students (or yourself) using common social media apps for much more than entertainment. Bob Britten is an assistant professor at the P.I. Reed School of Journalism at West Virginia University. He developed and teaches the school?s new course on blogging and interactive journalism, and he credits PodCamp 2009 with helping him get that particular ball rolling. You can check out the Spring 2010 course blog at http://interactivejournalismwvu.wordpress.com. CleanSession: "Once Upon a Time" Christopher Whitlatch | Once Upon a Time: Telling Your Story Digitally Once upon a time, we did not have FlipCams and video editing software to make videos easily. Once upon a time, we did not have Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or podcasts to distribute our stories easily. It may be easier to make and tell your story today, but digital storytellers can lean a lot from stories that have come before, from the campfire to Luke Skywalker to the Story of Stuff and beyond. This session will take a look at how we can better tell our stories, business or personal, using digital tools. Christopher Whitlatch is Manager of Marketing and Communications for The Pittsburgh Foundation, the 15th largest community foundation in the country. He joined the Foundation in April 0f 2009 and has directed the Foundationâ??s online and social media activities since that time. Previously, he founded UniversalWit, a digital media consulting company and is the creator of several on-line and alternate reality games. In May, the Foundation launched Pittsburgh on Video a community video hub that is part of the Miro Community. Christopher serves as the first curator of content for the site. http://www.pittsburghonvideo.org. | 10/10/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanSession: "Friend Me? No, Friend You! " | Thanks to the Internet and social media, we can reach audiences like never before. While social media can be a boon to people and businesses alike, many struggle to create true, meet-for-drinks-after-work friendships, partnerships and fans. We¢??ll talk about how you can reach a more meaningful audience, why your follower count or number of RSS subscribers matters a lot less than the quality of your readership and why sweating the small stuff about this kinda stuff matters. Justin Burdett has been living on the Internet for as long as he can remember. When not thinking about or working with technology, he can probably be seen playing Ultimate Frisbee in the greater Pittsburgh region. He¢??s available for hire. You can learn more about his goings at the official Justin Burdett website at justinburdett.com or by following his snark on Twitter at @jburdeezy. | 9/29/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanSession: "Blogging 201" Michelle Hammond | Session Description Blogging 201: Finding Fodder 52 Weeks a Year Itâ??s easy to start a personal blog. Those first few weeks can be exhilarating as you tell the world all those stories youâ??ve been saving, share your genius with the entire internet, and reveal all those dark secrets that have been trying to bust out of your closet. But the novelty can wear off, and then what? It can be hard to continuously find topics worthy of a blog post. This session will discuss some tactics that can be used to find fodder in every day life and, perhaps, rejuvenate your enthusiasm for blogging. Michelle is a New York-born Pittsburgher who grew up in North Dakota and has discovered that she is really quite terrible at remembering much of anything beyond the names of those states. As a result, she blogs at burghbaby.com where she documents life with a preschooler, a husband, a menagerie of animals. Amidst the chaos of working full-time and maintaining some sort of order at home, she manages to find time for a little photography and a whole lot of social media. | 9/28/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanPCPGH4 Keynote with Justin Kownacki and Bill Peduto | This week, we are going to be releasing the sessions available from Day 1 of the HUB (Room A) at Podcamp Pittsburgh 4. Two very important notes as we post the videos starting this week. First, the video you see is straight from the streams provided by the fine folks at Vivo. A lot of this was subject to who may have used it previously (hence, some interesting angles or crowd shots during sessions). Secondly, as you will see more so in some of the sessions to come this week, especially in the hub, there was a peaking issue when people used the microphones. Aside from these small issues that we aim to smooth out for next year, we look forward to posting the majority of the sessions from the weekend in the coming weeks. All videos are being posted under Creative Commons License, giving speakers and others the ability to download and repurpose as you would like. (and if you donâ??t know much about that, there should be a video on it soon) To begin with, here is the way it started for everyone, despite your chosen schedule; the keynote. Justin Kownacki, the founder of Podcamp Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh City Councilman, Bill Peduto, whoâ??s spearheaded such projects as the iBurgh app speak with us to open things up. | 10/24/09 | Free | View In iTunes |
