Breastfeeding for Mothers of Premie Infants | In 1989, Stephen Feher and colleauges created a relaxation recording to help mothers of preterm babies make more milk. The group studied 71 mothers, who were randomly assigned to the receive the recording or usual care. Mothers in the study group were advised to listen to the recording once a day. One week later, mothers expressed a sample of milk during a visit to the hospital. Those in the relaxation group expressed an average of 3 ounces of milk, compared with just under 2 ounces for the usual care group. The study report is available online at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov.libproxy.lib.unc.edu/pubmed/2642620 . In 2011, Feher re-recorded this guided relaxation in digital format to make it widely available for mothers who are pumping milk for babies in intensive care. | 4/7/11 | Free | View In iTunes |
