Customer Reviews
A great idea done right.
An overview of the classic romantic comedy movies by great romance authors - of course! And not just any authors either - genre megastar Jennifer Crusie and up-and-comer Lucy March. With great humor and a truly ferocious analytical sense, they review the great rom-coms, tipping the sacred cows apologetically, but thoughly. Not to be missed!
Good idea, self-indulgent production
This podcast features two characters. One is Jennifer Crusie, a megastar in romance and women's fiction, and Lucy March, someone I never heard of. Crusie's niece, maybe? Immaterial.
The idea is to analyze popular movies for aspects of romance, comedy, and something called "structure." Structure. If this podcast were a house, it would be the backwoods version of the Winchester House, with much rambling, doubling back, pointless diversion, and senseless childish arguments. It's as if someone put a mike on two little girls in the back seat of a car on a long journey. "Is not!" "Is too!"
Ms. Crusie seems to know her peanuts, but Ms March, not so much, though her ignorance doesn't dampen her fighting spirit. A good editor could shorten these podcasts by 80% without losing anything. Oh, maybe the yapping dogs would be lost. Please. I've had to shut this podcast off because these two women did not shut off the yapping dogs. Ms. Crusie's voice is pleasant, but Ms. March's voice could curdle plutonium. How did Ms. Crusie get roped into this amateurish foray into--into something? I don't even know what. To promote the screeching Ms. March's career? I haven't heard all of the shows because life is just too short to waste on podcasts with such an insignificant ratio of content and so much danger to my eardrums. This series has turned out to be a horrible disappointment.
What would be wonderful? Ms. Crusie, alone, sans yapping dogs and screeching niece, to speak clearly and intelligently on the topics of romance, comedy, and yes, structure. I'll be on the lookout for The Popcorn Monologues.
