Power Hour
Interesting discussion about energy/power production. What got lost in the discussion however, is how to solve some of our energy problems. It's easy to criticize but much more difficult to offer solutions. For example, wind power, solar, or biofuels, etc. were presented and shown as ineffective by themselves. However, it doesn't follow that they are therefore useless and we shouldn't use any of them as is implied in this podcast. Perhaps working in conjunction with all the different power sources might be a step.
I also believe that nuclear power is the most efficient power source but recognize the dangers. Do the speakers still believe that the environmentalists use "alarmist" rhetoric or that "it's not true that it's not safe" ? What do they think now of these statements considering what has happened in Japan since this podcast? We do need oversight. Private companies can't always be trusted as was evident with the Tokyo Electric Power Company's disregard of potential quake impact on the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant and also BP's unwillingness to spend a few hundred thousand dollars on a proper blowout preventer last year in the Gulf of Mexico just to save money. The free market doesn't always work as well as we assume.
Great podcast
It's refreshing to hear some of the luminaries in the energy pundit world. Mr. Epstein does a great job of keeping things principled and focus.
My only complaint is that Mr. Epstein sometimes has awkward segues when moving to a new question. I suspect that it's just a matter of inexperience and that he'll get better at it soon enough.
Wish this were weekly!
Very Informative show
This show will increase your energy IQ and at the same time give you insights to other points of view. I greatly enjoyed the nuclear power episode and was stunned by how safe nuclear power really is.
