In Our Voices: Profiles of Courage | An unprecedented collaboration between the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Pritzker Military Library, we present a powerful conversation between veterans from World War II, Vietnam and the Iraq/Afghanistan conflicts. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to hear these veterans discuss the ways in which military service has changed in the last 60 years, the ways in which it will never change, and how their sacrifice shapes our world today. Panelists are David H. Hymes, former National Commander of the Jewish War Veterans of the USA and World War II veteran; James Mukoyama, who served over thirty years on active and reserve duty in the United States Army including service in Vietnam and was the first Asian-American to command a U.S. Army division; and Rodrigo Garcia, Assistant Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs and a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. | 5/1/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Bryan Anderson: No Turning Back | Bryan Anderson enlisted in the Army in April 2001 and had a ‘ship out’ date of September 11, 2001. He served two tours of duty in Iraq and was stationed in the Baghdad area. He attained the rank of Sergeant in the Military Police (MP), conducted police training courses in Iraq and gained additional law enforcement experience at Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary as a prison guard. In October 2005, Bryan was injured by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that resulted in the loss of both legs and his left hand. As a result of his injuries, he was awarded a Purple Heart. Bryan received rehabilitation for a period of 13 months at Walter Reed Army Hospital. He is one of the few triple amputees to have survived his injuries in Iraq. Bryan’s story has received extensive media coverage including two feature articles in Esquire Magazine (one a cover shot in January 2007), as well as numerous articles in major newspapers and publications, from his hometown Chicago Sun Times to the LA Times and NY Times. | 4/9/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Refighting the Pacfic War | In a roundtable discussion format, more than thirty veterans and historians address "what if" questions about the war in the Pacific. Their differing views on possible outcomes of various campaigns and the implications of those changes on the course of history are certain to provoke debate. All major naval campaigns and key battles are discussed along with such questions as whether Japan could have inflicted even greater damage at Pearl Harbor, how Admiral Yamamoto might have won at Midway, and the impact of that victory on the direction of the war. The book also explores whether the war was inevitable and whether the conflict could have ended without the use of the atomic bomb. Vice Admiral Yoji Koda, Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (Ret.), provides the book's introduction. Join Jim Bresnahan, Elliot Carlson, John Lundstrom and Jon Parshall as they discuss the book. Utterly Outstanding
If you have even a passing interest in the military legacy of the United States, any interest at all in an in-depth and intelligent discussion of issues facing the all aspects of the Military in the US, then you must listen to this podcasts. I am not engageing in hyperbole to say this is the sort of programming and outreach that exemplifies the promise of podcasting in the public interest. Polished and professional in presentation, it still has the intimacy a lot of us enjoy in podcasting. No matter your interest, this is one of the best.
Superb!
Giving multiple viewpoints and covering diverse topics, this is an EXCELLENT program.
Excellent
I listen (in full) to almost every podcast and I have been compelled to read many of the books! In fact, when I was visiting Chicago on business last summer, I had some free time and stopped in to check out the library. I hope to make it there for a live presentation some time soon!
