On December 26 teams arrived in a safe haven port and the boats were transported by heavy lift ship to a position off the Sharjah coastline in the northern Emirates. The second part of the leg was January 4's 98nm sprint to the finish line in Abu Dhabi. PUMA's Mar Mostro completed the sprint in 6 hours, 58 minutes and 38 seconds. PUMA's Mar Mostro was carefully placed into an onboard cradle in a rare open sea load, and the crew and boat then traveled to Cape Town, South Africa, to join the rest of the fleet and prepare for Leg 2 of the Volvo Ocean Race.
