ExplicitPyro’s Arcade Episode 31: Viva Los Manchuria | *Podcast Editor's Note* Due to FTP and shoddy hotel WiFi issues, this episode is posting a week late. We'll be back to our regular schedule next week. Also, apologies to Raphael Phillips of 8bit Cubist (http://www.8bitcubist.com/blog/) for screwing up his name. *End Note* In this episode, Robbie finally ends his Brokeback affair with WoW and queries the guys for suggestions to tide him over until D3 and Hitman finally arrive. Conor fills us in on his two week gaming bender with titles like Shadows of the Damned, Shadow Complex, Dungeon Defenders, All Orcs Must Die, Golden Axe: Beast Rider (shudder), Hero Academy (win!), and the OG Assassin's Creed. We wax a little on the shifts in narrative goals between the various iterations of AC as Steven rages about Revelations awkward deus ex ending and delights in sharing the joys of Warhammer: Space Marine. ExplicitPyro’s Arcade Episode 29: Frank-incensed Double-Size Edition | We should preface this podcast by telling you that Conor spent 80 minutes bitching about Skyrim. Thankfully, we've edited that down to a mere 25, and it's—of course—off-set by the hour we spent reviewing almost every title to see the light of day in the last year. That's right folks, everything you've had in the last year except we do it all for about twice as long and about twice as loud. Remember to take a gander at the Video Game of the Year contest (http://gfbrobot.com/2011/12/16/video-game-of-the-year-2011-you-decide/) on the main site, where you decide 2011's best game AND stand to win a free copy of any of the nominees. Free Game of the Cast: This round it was World of Tanks (http://worldoftanks.com/), which somehow didn't make it into the actual podcast. World of Tanks is a fast-paced, intense, and extremely detailed PVP MMO. Everything is about the head-to-head team combat and I highly recommend a few DAYS with the Wiki (http://wiki.worldoftanks.com/Welcome_to_the_WoT_Tutorial) before you try to tackle an actual combat round. It's an extremely exciting game, when you actually stay alive, but the learning curve is STEEP. Next cast's game is DC Universe Online (www.dcuniverseonline.com/). Try it yourself and tune in two weeks. Conor forgot what else to link for this cast so enjoy some free life advice (http://www.marcandangel.com/2011/12/11/30-things-to-stop-doing-to-yourself/) for the New Year. ExplicitPyro’s Arcade Episode 28: SWOTR > Lyfe | It's a two-man show this week, with El Nobodor recovering from a tragic yet intimate batarang injury. Conor and Stephen gives us the in-depth lowdown on the early levels of Star Wars: The Old Republic (due out 12/20), courtesy of Conor's involuntary decision to sacrifice sleep, food, and warmth during the SWTOR Beta Weekend. Seriously people, this game is dangerous! Stephen updates us on reaching the halfway point in Skyrim (90+ hours and counting) and the long climb ahead as he discovers the THREE games worth of content buried inside Bethesda's latest entry in the Elder Scrolls series. Lastly, we take a look at some delightful reporting out of England courtesy the Daily Mail and detail both this week and next week's contests on the written side of the site. ExplicitPyro’s Arcade Episode 27: Brought to You By Gex | Skyrim!!!!! Also, the boys explore Ubisoft's plans for this week's release of Assassin's Creed: Revelations and Conor fills us in on Kultan, a naval-theme browser MMO as part of the new F2P of the Week feature. Robbie takes us down memory lane as he recounts the trials and errors of Ru-fueled Rom Roulette which triggers a full-body nerdgasm as Conor rediscovers the wonder that is Gex. Lastly, we return to Batman: Arkham City with Robbie finally understanding the brilliance of Asylum and the rest of the boys having finally beat City. Sadly, it still kind of sucks. ExplicitPyro’s Arcade Episode 26: BatSpleen Vented | Conor, Steven, and El Nobodor spend 90 minutes desperately trying to find something good to say about well…anything. Batman: Arkham City, Diablo III, Blizzard DOTA, Protect IP, Golden Age, and Quick-Time Events get a royal lashing during this collective bash session. Conor also kicks off a new regular feature, "Free-2-play Game of the Week", in which he will suffer through a new game every cast and report on the inherent Win or Fail so you don't have to check them yourself. Send game suggestions, questions, comments or concerns to conor@gfbrobot.com As mentioned in the cast, you can help settle a feud between Robbie and Conor. ExplicitPyro’s Arcade Episode 25: There is No Cow Level | Steven steps into Colin's farm-scented hole as he joins Robbie and Conor in this week's cast. The boys discuss their thoughts on Deus Ex: Human Revolution, now that they've beaten it. They lament the completely tacked-on multiplayer mode of an otherwise awesome single-player Warhammer 40k: Space Marine. And they shine a little light on the ever expanding, but still underground, MUGEN scene, in all its batshit glory. Lastly, they take a look at this week's upcoming Blizzcon and speculate what new awesomeness shall be revealed. Mixed through is the usual spatter of Red Ring rants, awe at the Valve Cabal, and anything else they found relevant in video games from the past two weeks. ExplicitPyro’s Arcade Episode 23: Topic, What Topic? | As part of our switch to the bimonthly format, we're going to be posting on the weeks opposite of House Rules. Since the boys just found this out a few days before their normal recording day, they tossed out the idea of any specific topic and spent some time riffing on their current gameplay. Colin details the trevails of WoW burnout, Conor waxes long on Deus Ex and Jetpack Joyride, and Robbie quietly sips his beer and cries about the complete lack of the promised free Portal 2 DLC. ExplicitPyro’s Arcade Episode 13: Givin’ It the Bizness. | Apologies for the super-short cast this week. We've had some scheduling and manpower changes here at the Robot and I just wanted to fill everyone in on the details. I pretty much cover everything from the cast in this blurb so if you're prone to TLDR, then just listen to the cast. First, in the interest of avoiding scheduling conflicts with the site's other podcasts, we're moving Pyro's Arcade to Thursdays. The plan is for it to still be on a weekly schedule and unless Big Robot says different, the day should stay the same for the rest of the summer. Secondly, I've decided that the cast needs a proper cohost. Since Andrew seems to have nailed down the available supply of midget ambisexual trucker-mouthed physicists, I need to find my own version of a Jeannie and I think YOU, the listeners/readers, are perfect for the job. Well, one of you anyway. The job is open to anyone that loves video games, is comfortable talking about their opinions and is currently over the age of 18. I'd prefer someone with a different perspective on games than my own and that's not afraid to argue their point on the air. Whether that perspective is your genre preference, your race/gender/nationality or just what you think determines a "good" game. All are welcome and encouraged. I want this to continue to be a space for discussing ALL aspects of games, not just the stuff I like. Direct any inquiries to conor@gfbrobot.com and we'll discuss things from there. The Three Pyroteers
Dylan and Conor are their usual somewhat amusing selves, but the addition of Colin's insight really made for some interesting listening. The three make a great team!
Holy God
I have listened to other podcasts from this network, and I have tried and tried to listen to this one and failed. I usually drop out about 10 minutes in. This time however I managed to make it to this Conor guy's rant about Skyrim... Oh boy.
His argument was that the game sucked because there was a lot of stuff? I phrase that as a question because I couldn't tell as it was barely coherant. It sounded like an ADD victim launching into a tirade because the game demanded concentration. Not really a review at all, just trolling. If you like that sort of thing, then by all means, they are all yours.
