Queers! #7: Love, equality and…sniff, sniff…is that a campfire I taste? | That celebrated (or dreaded depending on your Facebook status), heart-shaped holiday is upon us, so listen in to hear which Valley venues made our best and worst list. What would you do if someone took you to the gay Denny's to celebrate your love? We even ask Siri for her recommendations! And, for those of us who love Arizona, we can't forget that Valentine's Day this year marks the Arizona Centennial -- yep, we're an even 100 years old! The news coming out of Washington State gave the EDBF crew reason to raise a glass or two and toast to marriage equality. Our festive choice? Charles Smith Chateau Smith Cabernet Sauvignon 08 is a delicious bottle from winemaker and Sammy Hagar's doppleganger, Charles Smith. This month's episode features a special guest, Derek Bryant, who is a visiting chef and micro brew aficionado from Albuquerque, New Mexico. In honor of the exciting news coming from the northwest, Derek brought us a selection of Washington State brews from Leavenworth Biers and Scuttlebutt Brewing Company, to butch up our beverage choices. Also, listen closely as he describes his latest creation, Bacon Cupcakes. We thought that Libbie being under the weather would dampen the humor on the show, but as it turns out, she issues more one-liners and random outbursts that keep the whole group in stitches! A great big special thanks to our new neighbors, Cactus Candy, for sending over a sample of a hometown favorite and a wonderful alternative to chocolates for your sweetie. The troop rounds off the tasting with some Rogue Voodoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Ale, yup, it is as interesting as it sounds. Tune in to hear the reactions, good, bad and ugly. Beer, it's back to being for breakfast again. | 2/7/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Joe and Babe #63: Lots of C.A.R.E. and Film Festival Fun in Southern Arizona | It's our "Southern Arizona Fried Chicken Special!!" This week, we're talking all about what's going on south of Phoenix. We're joined in-studio by Christopher Jay Hall, interim President of Central Arizona Rainbow Eduction (C.A.R.E.) and via phone by Joe Sprague, Director of the Out in the Desert LGBT Film Festival. From Casa Grande to Tucson, we're talking to these great individuals who are making a difference in their local communities and we're learning about their upcoming events! Christopher Jay Hall worked to start the March for Equality in Casa Grande, which has evolved into a larger event including a festival with exhibitors and entertainment. How did it get started? There was a need, of course! In 2006, he wanted to start a gay-straight alliance at his high school, and things just 'blossomed from there.' C.A.R.E. is now an organization that serves the LGBTQ community in the rural areas of Central Arizona. The upcoming 4th Annual March for Equality takes place on Saturday, March 31 from Noon to 4pm at Peart Park in Casa Grande. The actual March itself will take place at 10am. Both events are free admission are open to all-ages. Joe Sprague hails originally from Chicago and was involved in many years of LGBT film festivals before he moved to Tucson. And now, he's bringing his talents to The Old Pueblo and has created one of the largest (by number of films) LGBT film festivals in the entire country! A total of 165 films will be shown at the Out in the Desert Film Festival at several locations in Tucson during the weekends of February 17-19 and February 24-26. Over 40 VIPs from the films will be in Tucson to be a part of the festival. It is shaping up to be an incredible festival and we're excited that Tucson gets to take this giant leap into LGBT film festival history! Compete Radio #3-2: Athlete of the Year David Rae and Eric’s Super Bowl Predictions! | This week, we've got Compete Magazine's 2011 Athlete of the Year David Rae as our featured guest, plus we're talking about upcoming events, straight ally Hudson Taylor and predictions for the Super Bowl! David Rae is incredibly involved in the gay community of Los Angeles and West Hollywood, although we'd have to say it extends far beyond just those cities! He's been involved in the AIDS/Life Cycle ride since 2008 as team captain of 'Team Popular'. On top of working to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for ALC, he's involved in raising money for the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center. His love of cycling meshes seamlessly with the ALC fundraising effort, and, his family's background in sports (his dad, Mike Rae, was a NFL quarterback) definitely influenced his hyper-active lifestyle. Connie is out this week so Eric and Joe talk it up this week about the latest from the Compete Network... are sports players paid too much? And what about baseball players? Also, the latest with Hudson Taylor and his Athlete Ally organization which is working to eliminate homophobia in collegiate sports. In local news, the Gay Rodeo is coming up! The RoadRunner Regional Rodeo, put on by the A.G.R.A. is coming to Rawhide February 17-19! Get your horse and favorite cowboy ready, well maybe not in that order! And finally, Eric seeks out advice from the universe so he can bring you his famous Super Bowl Predictions! Joe and Babe #62: Get Fresh with one n ten (1n10) | Joe and Babe go way back, and one n ten (1n10) had brought us together originally. We're proud to be supporters of one n ten as it charges forward to continue its awesome and much-needed work to empower today's LGBTQ youth in metropolitan Phoenix. Jeremy Schachter joins us today to talk about the upcoming one n ten Fresh Brunch at The Phoenician on Sunday, February 26th. He's the chair of the Brunch and he's got the full scoop on the event. He's on a mission to raise $100,000 for the organization through the Brunch, and he wants you to help him by buying tickets! We also talk about one n ten as an organization, where it's been and where it's going. Did you know that the YEP House (Youth Empowerment Project) is shortly moving to a brand-new location? And that one n ten might even be opening a school? How cool is that?! We're super-excited to see the great changes that continue at one n ten, and look forward to the future. We were saddened by the recent teen suicide in Tennessee, and horrified by the statements made by Tennessee lawmakers afterward. It is just irresponsible for public figures to make statements such that "gays are not healthy human beings" or that "only gay men can get HIV". In these times, the work that one n ten does is more important than ever. Get tickets for the one n ten Fresh Brunch for yourself and your friends, or you can even sponsor a one n ten youth to attend the Brunch! Joe and Babe #60: 1VCC Men’s Discussion Group, another gay teen suicide and Martin Luther King Day | Larry Pfeiffer joins us from the Men's Discussion Group at One Voice Community Center. One question that's been burning in our minds: just what do you discuss at a Men's Discussion Group? Well, yes, there are some topics that apparently are off-limits, but it's a very popular group on Monday nights at the Center and just keeps on getting better. This week, we lost another gay teen to suicide. Eric James Borges from California took his life this week after struggling with his coming out process and his family's non-acceptance of him. What's terribly sad about this is that he had a wonderful community full of support around him, and he even made an "It Gets Better" video just about a month ago. Anyone struggling with suicidal thoughts and have no one to turn to for help, please call The Trevor Project at 866-488-7386. One of our very own, local GLSEN co-chair and ASU professor Madelaine Adelman, was honored on Friday with the Living the Dream Award at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Awards Breakfast. It's great to see the award go to someone who is doing great work to advance civil rights through non-violence. Claudine tells about the amazing experience that she had when she recently checked out Rice Paper, a relatively new Vietnamese restaurant in Central Phoenix. This new gem has amazing Pho and also specializes in their rolls, which are made with a very thin wrapper (hence the Rice Paper name) which makes them somewhere in-between an egg roll and traditional sushi rolls. Definitely put it on your list! Joe dishes about how he just came back from stuffing himself silly at Girl Meets Fork's Pancake Quest 2012 -- an ultimate showdown of eight local chefs vying for the honor of the best pancake in town. I especially liked those from Orange Table, Smart Kitchen and Elemental Sugar. If you're curious about their pancakes from those three, here they are: Buttermilk pancake with fresh ricotta and prosciutto, Meyer lemon butter, ground cherry maple syrup; cream cheese-infused, reduced port wine pancake with fresh raspberry coolie; and grain-free, gluten-free pancake with mesquite flour, pochi berry with chai-infused butter. The event was hosted by Perk Eatery, who put out some pretty amazing spiced sweet potato pancakes with a praline bacon crumble and whiskey bourbon sauce. An incredible event, to be sure! Girl Meets Fork is run by foodie and PR gal Susie Timm and is a boutique marketing firm for the restaurant and specialty food industries. She blogs on her site about food and loves to organize food-related events. Check out her next event: The 2nd Annual Grilled Cheese Throwdown February 26 at the Hotel Valley Ho. Last but not least! Joe and Babe #59: Downtown Phoenix History with “Dr. Anderson” | We're baaaaaack!! We're super-excited to be back on the Internet airwaves in 2012! Our first guest of the year is no stranger to QTalk Arizona, he's none other than J. Seth Anderson who started our "What The Hell Is Going On In Arizona?" podcast! Seth has lived in the Valley for many years, but over the past decade has really to come to love downtown Phoenix. He's very actively involved in preserving historic buildings and working to create better ways of using our existing land. In fact, he's so active that he recently co-authored a book on the very subject! The book, aptly named "Downtown Phoenix" is now available and it's a beautiful book with countless wonderfully historic photographs that tell the stories of our downtown. Listen as we talk about Seth's background, what he's up to lately and what he might be doing next! Also, we're giving away tickets to the Street Eats Food Truck Festival on certain LIVE shows this weekend on QTalk Arizona, so stay tuned to know how you can win! You can grab a copy (get a few while you're at it!) of Seth's new book at local retailers, online at Amazon and also at Seth's website. | 1/7/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Dr. Dina Hour #18: Is Your Partner Driving You CRAZY? | And so, that guy or girl that you've been with for months and months -- or years and years, is driving you completely nuts! How is it that you overlooked the 'little things' in the beginning of the relationship? It's those little idiosyncrasies -- the little things that we do without even thinking about it. When we're alone, it doesn't matter, but as soon as you take on a partner -- well, they're going to see those things front and center. How do you deal with these things later on in a relationship? And, if you're just starting out dating someone, how can you spot these things in the beginning? Is it a bad thing to 'weed people out' in the early stages of a relationship? Yes and no, the answer to that is a bit complicated. But, Dr. Dina answers all of those questions and more on this week's show! The Dr. Dina Hour moves to Sunday afternoons in 2012! We're off for a few weeks to enjoy the holidays and plan for an exciting season of shows in the new year. Please check our website or subscribe to the e-blasts to get the updated schedule time -- our first show back will be Sunday, January 8th. And, tell us what you'd like to talk about so we can cover topics that interest you! Have a wonderful and safe Holiday Season and start to the New Year! --Dr. Dina | 12/15/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Joe and Babe #58: Ace Lundon is Calling | We can't believe it's our last show of the year, and we saved a very special guest for last! Ace Lundon hosts the Lundon Calling podcast every week, but that doesn't really tell his story. He's a legend in his own right, and he has a never-ending lifetime of stories to tell. Ace has been in the entertainment industry for decades, a radio host, managing editor of a national gay magazine and an activist for HIV/AIDS and other major issues of our community. He's even said to have psychic abilities! Friends with superstars such as Mae West and Judy Canova, he produced the longest running monthly show in history that entertained the troops who were heading out for the Vietnam War -- over 750,000! Learn the bits and pieces of his life that aren't mentioned anywhere in press releases or on his web site, as we also talk about the changes going on in our world today. He truly is someone who 'done it all' and he has an opinion on just about everything--including using whatever words you need to in writing, and in life. He tells us how he was let go from teaching an advanced writing class in a high school in South Dakota, for talking about "the m**********n of one's mind". He used the term appropriately, but oh boy, the vice principal didn't think so! It was a lot of fun having Ace Lundon on our show, Joe had appeared on his show earlier and it was only appropriate to return the favor! We'll be back on our new day and time in 2012! Join us LIVE at 1pm on Saturdays. Our first guest on January 7th will be QTalk Arizona's very own Seth Anderson. He's a recently-published author and we're going to learn all about him! Seth started the "What The Hell Is Going On In Phoenix" show here on QTalk Arizona. Happy Holidays, be safe and enjoy this most wonderful time of the year. Talk to you soon...! --Joe and Babe | 12/14/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

HIV continues to infect new people everyday and the theme for 2011's World AIDS Day is 'Getting to Zero: Zero New HIV Infections. Zero Discrimination. Zero AIDS-Related Deaths.' Is it achievable? You bet! But we must all educate ourselves on the disease and other STDs and work to prevent it. It is an incredibly preventable disease, and you just have to take the time to learn and then be smart about it. Dr. Dina Hour #15: Dealing with Manipulators | Who are those 'Wolves in Sheep's Clothing' in your life? Is your partner in your relationship? A family member? Someone at work? Why do we let ourselves fall prey to these people? And what can we do to identify these behaviors and not react to them? Some manipulators do it without even knowing it, others know that they do it because they like to hold onto their power. A classic manipulator of people, at least in terms of his professional life, was the late Steve Jobs. His 'reality distortion field' caused people to think and behave a totally different way because of the way that he presented ideas and wanted people to take action on them. Granted, his manipulations brought about incredible change to our world, and this is an 'over-the-top' example. But manipulators in your life probably do what they do without even thinking about it, it's become so ingrained in their personality that it's just automatic. Listen to the show to learn how to deal with these people and pull yourself out of bad situations. And, of course, we've got your interactions via our chat room and your phone calls. There won't be a show on Thanksgiving, so please enjoy a wonderful holiday with friends and family and we'll be back on December 1st! Yours, Dr. Dina | 11/17/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Joe and Babe #55: Donna Rossi, Superwoman! | Donna Rossi is "the hardest working lesbian in local news", at least that was the way she was introduced at last year's Equality Arizona Awards Dinner. We couldn't agree more! But did you know "the rest of the story?" Her career has spanned many areas, from being on the Phoenix Police force to being a television journalist for nearly twenty years. As she says, "what haven't I done yet?" She's currently a news reporter for CBS 5 KPHO, and an Emmy Award-winning one at that! In recent years, she's hosted the Equality Arizona awards dinners and even been the host of Equality Arizona Radio until it went off the air a few years ago. We're very excited to have her in-studio to talk about her amazing life and her advocacy work for our community. We also chat a bit about the latest news from around the world, specifically about the wonderful interview that recently aired with Gabby Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly. Donna shares her personal story and connection with Giffords and how she spent over a week in Tucson following the shooting earlier this year. It's truly moving. And in other news, it's Anti-Bullying Week in the U.K. and American Censorship Day here in this country (well, we don't want it to be!) Make sure to research the copyright-related bills making their way through Congress right now and contact your legislators to make your voice heard on the issue. There won't be a LIVE show next week, but we'll post some great episodes to Facebook for you to listen to from around the QTalk Arizona network. As always, if you've got a comment, question, show topic or anything else -- we'd love to hear from you! Email us or give us a shout at (440) 847-8255! Dr. Dina Hour #14: Violence In The Media | There's been a large increase of violence being portrayed in the media over the past few years, if not decade. And not just in movies and TV shows, but especially in video games and even comics! Does the human race have a 'need' to see and be a part of violence? How does it hurt us as a society? How can we better be immune to its effects? And how can we potentially reduce it in our world? We have a lively discussion on these topics plus the interaction from our chat room on this week's episode.
