In this podiobook: "These hills...in late afternoon, they turn a hundred different shades of gold. When I was a little girl, papa would take me riding here. Sad face

Storyline fun/ lots of action

The storyline, dialog and action keep everything moving along and a pleasure to listen to the author reading the story.

I prefer Mr. Wood's reading sans special effects/music. Mr. Wood- you don't need them. The interminable song beginning each segment completely disrupts the flow... a man singing makes it even worse.

Special effects-20/21st century machine gun "war"fare starkly clash w/ guns/explosions of very early 19th century(1818) & as is the sword confusion... - a rapier is a stab/thrust blade vs a cutting blade.... All in all.... the special effects - lose them.

(FYI - Napa Valley (St Helena) was not explored by the Spanish until 1823 & St. Helena isn't near the coast - any coast - it's wine country - the mts separate it from the coast. - but who cares! The story is fun!)
