A weekly infusion of thought-provoking beauty
Red Lion square is a micro-cast in two parts - the poems and the afterparty. The poems, occasionally themed, are well-read by a variety of readers and produced with just enough music to add texture. The flavor of the poems is eclectic and whimsical, sometimes dark. If you want, you can turn your player off after the poetry. However, the afterparty is also a lot of fun. It's usually a recorded piece of a larger discussion (about some aspect of art), after the participants have forgotten that the mic is on. Sometimes these discussions occur in public places. The hosts are still learning how to manage background noise, and sometimes the afterparty is difficult to understand. That's a pity, because it's always interesting. Hopefully, they'll continue to hone their technique for grabbing these candid shots of conversation.
This podcast is one of the only poetry podcasts functioning as a true market with a slush pile and submission guidelines It's an ambitious effort. The short story underwent a revival when podcasting made it accessible to large numbers of people again. Perhaps podcasting can do the same for poetry.
Refreshing
This fun approach to poetry has made it more accessible to me. I love listening in my car, as I drive for hours each week.
