Interesting

Great seeing into a different world.

Nothing Like It Anywhere

Audacia Ray has really put together a great monthly event in New York City. How awesome is it that this well-produced podcast exists to share it with the world. These stories are not 'hot' -- if that's the kind of entertainment you're looking for, look elsewhere. Rather, these are true stories of the rawest kind: sometimes tragic, sometimes hilarious, but always illuminating.

Great show, lousy audio

The podcast is the live recordings of the Red Umbrella Diaries shows in New York City. The stories themselves can be quite engaging at times and boring at others.

Good Stuff: Hearing Sex Workers talk about their own industry openly and honestly. Stories that give a glimpse into the industry. No real agenda other than informing people or promoting a book on the same topic.

Bad Stuff: This podcast suffers MASSIVELY from bad audio issues. Intro is too loud, speakers are too quiet, too much background noise, closing is too loud, and/or the speaker is so monotoned you don't really want to take the effort to figure out just what they are saying. When the speaker is good you don't care about the audio quality. If the speaker is ok, you won't want to work through the issues.

Another negative thing for me is the series is very NYC centric which is to be expected. There are no stories about experiences outside of NYC and sometimes it comes off the speaker sounding elitist. This is not a bad thing but since I don't live in the city I sometimes find it very off putting because the attitude is very much matter of fact for issues of sex work in the city. I guess I am saying that the target audience is very small where it could be much larger.

I would say it's worth staying subscribed to for the gems but you have to wade through a lot of the bad to get to the good.
