You will not find a more thoughtful and engaging news show on television
Reliable Sources, a weekly CNN television show, critiques press coverage of the week's top stories. In their zeal to win a story, television and newspaper news media sometimes get it wrong. They use bad taste, hype trivial issues, and broadcast inaccuracies. Howard Kurtz shows clips of questionable journalism on his show and invites members of the media to reflect on and learn from what has transpired. Kurtz is the media's conscience. Kurtz does not yell or rant but he does not spare any news outlet including CNN from fair direct critique. The show is fast moving and engaging. People who regularly read a newspaper or watch television news will thoroughly appreciate this show. Kurtz is just as critical as Jon Stewart and yet more constructive. The more people who watch the show, the more accountable the newsmedia will be and that is a good thing. Thank you Howard and CNN for this excellent show and for providing it as a podcast. I don't mind the commercial(s) as I am thankful to get the show for free via podcast.
great for journalism students
As a journalism student, I find this show to be very helpful in encouraging myself to question why news is reported in a certain way, and why or if I would report it differently.
Why?
It's a fine show. Howie is great. The topics and discussions are important, intelligent and well moderated. This was my favorite podcast. So why did they take it away? Why do they insult us with a 5 minute version of the show? They said go to the website if you want to watch the entire show. That doesn't work. Why? I feel bad because I'm never going to see this show again.
