| 7 | VideoInsurance Policy: Two Eggs, One Survivor - featuring Richard Dawkins | Richard Dawkins explains how Nazca Boobies, Blue Footed Boobies and Gannetts all lay two eggs, but usually only rear one chick. This evolved adaptation may seem cruel to us, but the genes for this insurance policy get passed on through the surviving chicks to future generations. "In May 2007 Josh and I were among those who went to Galapagos with a large group from the Center for Inquiry. As we walked with the guided parties over the islands, Josh took every opportunity to film the wildlife. Occasionally he would turn the camera on me, and I would ad lib a few words about whatever animals we were looking at. These 'vignettes' were unscripted and unrehearsed, and there was no time for any "Take 2" repetitions, because the guided walk was moving on." - Richard Dawkins If you enjoy the video, and would like to help us make more videos like this, please consider donating $1 (or any other amount you'd like) to The Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science at http://richarddawkinsfoundation.org Also see: http://richarddawkins.net | 9/8/09 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 8 | VideoDistribution of Life: The Iguanas of Galapagos | Richard Dawkins explains how the distribution of life on Earth's continents and islands is exactly as we should expect if life evolved, and exactly how we should NOT expect if it had been created. | 9 | VideoVestigial Organs: Wings of the Flightless Cormorant - featuring Richard Dawkins | Richard Dawkins explains how vestigial organs like the stubby wings of the Flightless Cormorant were one of Darwin's key arguments for Evolution. | 10 | VideoHawaii as a Nursery of Evolution - featuring Richard Dawkins | Richard Dawkins shows how the relatively young island chain of Hawaii acts as a nursery of evolution as it moves over a volcanic hotspot in the Pacific Ocean, generating new islands. He shows how Drosophila flies have diverged on the different islands, driven by sexual selection. Dawkins, Sagan's successor
Dawkins is doing for biology what Sagan did for the cosmos. He has a fantastic communication style that engages and stimulates the neurons and synapses.
Michael Shermer was great!
Get this and look at Michael Shermer's Baloney Detection Kit. Ten keys to understanding science -- real science. That episode alone is worth the price of admission.
More proof
RDFtv proves, again, why Richard Dawkins is the foremost writer on evolution. With a camcorder and portable mic he makes broadcast-worthy content free for all. Awesome.
