Runcast 54 - Why are Kenyans so fast? | In this episode we talk about Kenyans, and later we'll have more audiobooks recommendations. “Kenyan” has become a synonym for a fast runner. There are running courses promising to teach you to run like a Kenyan, and there are training plans with names like “from couch to Kenyan.” In short, running like a Kenyan is the greatest achievement in distance running these days. But, why is it that Kenyans are so good, so fast and so dominant? To try to find an explanation I turned to a friend of Runcast, a scientist-runner and an editor at Canadian Running magazine, Alex Hutchinson. Runcast 45 - The importance of recovery | Explaining what we can do to help the body recover after an endurance training. People tend to keep pushing things they like to do, until they overdo it. With runners, overdoing it means that we tire more easily, our training stagnates, instead of getting faster we get slower, and we become prone to injuries. Many training plans include different forms of cross training as a solution for overtraining. There is, however, another important part of training process which is rarely emphasized - recovery. I’m joined today by Carolyn Murray, a coach with Triathlon Canada and Canadian Sport Centre Pacific. She is here to explain the importance of recovery in training process. Zzzz...
For a podcast named "Runcast", you'd expect something upbeat and energetic. But no, you get a guy whose speech induces coma like sleep states. Topics are interesting yet I don't feel like hibernating quite yet. Reminds me of my high school biology class.
(It'd be interesting to know if this guy has a pencil mustache.)
The Accent is the Best Part
Zoran is a Croation born Canadian. As such he has a thick Croation accent that is delightful to listen to. But even if he spoke redneck, it would still be a wonderful podcast. Zoran seems to be an experienced runner. He has researched his subjects and speaks with knowledge and authority. The podcast is truly delightful and is DEFINATELY one of my "don't miss" shows.
!
