Customer Reviews
Great guests, awful hosts.
From an informational standpoint, these podcasts are great. However, the moderators/interviewers are awful. I've listened to a few, (most recently, the 11/6/09 podcast with Michael Elliot) and was completely dissapointed with the interviewer. The information and enthusiasm from Michael was awesome, but the host sounded like she was either bored or tired (or both). Michael's breaking in story was phenomenal and definitely not the norm in Hollywood. Yet the host seemed uninterested and unwilling to discuss and probe this inspirational story. It seems that the interviewers for these podcast should be passionate about the screenwriting and screenwriters. Show some enthusiasm and when the guests reveal interesting, trend-bucking insights, don't be afraid to probe with thoughtful follow-up questions. Contrary to what you may have heard, the indifferent, blase interviewer is not cool. Don't be afraid to actually hold a conversation with the guest. A good interviewer can manage an insightful, entertaining and informative conversation. I give 3 stars for the guest line-up only. The interviewers bring this podcast down. Scriptmag interviewers should take notes from Elvis Mitchell, Pilar Alessandra or Jeff Goldsmith.
Great story notes and tips for writing!
These informational interviews are very helpful in understanding exactly how the pros in Hollywood get it done! Check out the Oscar series with interviews from the writers of The King's Speech and Black Swan.
Awesome podcast.
This is a good find – probably the most fast-paced and information-packed screenwriting podcast. Not that the other ones out there aren't good. It just seems like this one is being hosted by an actual journalist instead of some life coach or nerd.
GOOD STUFF! Keep it coming!
RE: Mr. Oglesby's review below:
I like the host. I don't think this is supposed to be hard-hitting investigative journalism. This is more morning news than evening news, if you know what I'm saying. Check out Film Threat and AIn't It Cool News for more alternativey coverage.
