Music Music: Wizardtorium by Kevin MacLeod, Licensed under Creative Commons "Attribution 3.0" Show Notes Hello, this is Kanen and I wanted to take a moment out of my normal podcasting routine to let you know that new shows are being released next week, but I am taking a few days more before releasing them out of respect for what happened this week. Steve Jobs passed away on October 5, 2011. I, like many people, felt a strong connection to Steve, not just because I admire him -- although that is certainly the case -- and not just because he changed my life with the tools he helped create -- although, that too happened -- but also because I had the amazing fortune to meet the man on three different occasions. The first time, I was in my early twenties and was using NeXT computers and software. The second, I was at the opening of one of the first Apple Stores. The third time was during a pitch to Apple for them to acquire a technology I had created for Apple (which, by the way, they did not acquire). The memory I have of Steve, the one that really sticks, is from the Apple Store in 2001. He was standing like a proud father, completely inconspiciously, against a display of Macintosh systems, at the side of the store. If you didn't know he was Steve, you'd never have known to say hello. I walked up to him. He reached out and shook my hand. "Hi, I'm Steve." I said, "Glad to see you again." He seemed to search his memory and vaguely remember me from before... I saw a glint of recognition. I said, "I know a lot of people tell you this, but ... I've admired your work, your taste, your dedication. I've used your computers since I was a kid and, when I left Microsoft in 1995, I never used Windows again, nor do I plan to do so in the future." He smiled. I said, "I hold you up among some of the greatest influences in my life and I'm glad to have you and the late Richard Feynman in my lifetime. I feel fortunate and I feel inspired by both of you." He looked at me, serious as anyone ever has and said, "I am deeply happy to be in such good company." I shook his hand again and said "thank you," and moved on, to let others say hello to Steve. Everyone has a memory of Steve. Some of us were fortunate enough to look into his eyes and see the bright, shining light of hope and determination. My thoughts go out to his friends, his family and the millions of people whose lives were touched by Steve. None of us will ever be the same because of the things Steve helped create and -- for me personally -- not a day will go by that I don't think of Steve and the wonderful future he has given me and everyone I care about. Customer Reviews
This just might become a 5 star show.
Do you now that guy, ya that guy who seems know everybody in town? Sure he is smart and well traveled, he has a great wife and can talk about anything geeky like an expert. But his real value is that he knows just about everyone you every wanted to sit down and talk to. Kanen Flowers is that kind of guy..... Sure he codes in LISP, and used to be into that whole minimalist trip. Today I would call him a geek realist. Lets just listen to who he has over for lunch. This show is going to become something you overhear very smart people talking about at the next table. So you might as well subscribe now and save yourself the hassle of downloading the old shows.
Highly recommended.
Host Kanen Flowers' show doesn't adhere to much structure; instead, it's a conversation between some very bright, intelligent individuals. The results are always funny, insightful, or inspiring—often all three—and I can't wait to see who'll be coming onto the show in the future. Well worth your time.
Brilliant unique eclectic podcast
A brilliant podcast for those interested in film and general nerdery. The podcast tends to centre on the guests skill set, but meanders into enough other abstract subjects to keep everyone entertained. It is the first fun podcast I have come across in a long time, and I mean really fun. But why o why did George Lucas want those rocks put in!
