ExplicitShuffled #27 - Scratch and Hiss | This week on Shuffled, we try something different (surprise!). Tyler Abstract joins me as we spin a few tracks from our personal stash of vinyl records. In fact, the whole playlist for this show are rarities and not available for purchase in digital formats. It's possible to find some of them on CD or in your local record shop if you dig on vinyl like we do. If not, enjoy this slathering of music from video game remixes to Jamaican folk and much more. Check the links below for some of the tracks I was able to hunt down elsewhere. A fair warring: All of these tracks were ripped from records, so the audio quality is all over the place (such is the nature of the beast). Enjoy and be on the look out for an extra scratchy track by a beloved early 90's alien! Track List Haruomi Hosono - Gaplus The cover said music by Hocono, but it may have been a typo. Original music by Yuriko Keino and Junko Ozawa. Download here. FM - One O' Clock Tomorrow Listen Keith Stewart - Yellow Bird Unable to find online, but check out another track from the album, Angelina. Cookin' with Alf - Alf Listen Miranda Warning - Why Be Sea, Missed Opportunities Also can't find these two songs online. There is this one track, the Power. Find out more about this Boston band from the 90's here. The Widgets - Empty Hearts, Outro I have no clue about anything about this band. All I can find is this one blog post. As always, you can get Ser Flash's music at his website - smpmusicproductions.bandcamp.com Also checkout Tyler's website for the weird and offbeat happening in Japan - http://abstractjapan.tumblr.com | 2/15/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitShuffled #25: Math the Band Interview | It's a new year and a new edition of the Shuffled Interview series! This week I'm pleased to have Math the Band, an electronic punk rock band from Providence, Rhode Island. The two of them, Kevin and Justine, have been part of the local music scene for quite awhile now, and with all the touring they do (in addition to having day jobs) it's amazing to see how much crazy energy they put into their shows and songs. Subjects included in this episode: England and its goofy accents, American delicacies, Satanism, disembowelment, prank shows, a new Peelander-Z album, and Space. Track list: Hang Out/Hang Ten - From Don't Worry Tour De Friends - From Don't Worry Dinosaurs Were Made Up By The CIA To Discourage Time Travel - From Math the Band Banned the Math Don't Do It - From Hair It's Gonna Be Awesome - From Don't Worry | 1/18/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitShuffled #22: Carl Sagan Tribute | Alex is getting a bit of a break from the show, so I am assuming direct control now! I decided to take a break from musician interviews, and seeing that everyone is celebrating what they are thankful for, I made a show centered around one of my heroes - Carl Sagan. Carl would have been 77 this November. I know many have been inspired by his work and enthusiasm of the cosmos. His work has been more far reaching and influential than I think he could have ever dreamed. So here's to you professor of the vast void in this place we all call home! ExplicitShuffled #21 Interview with God & the Devil | Matt is back in the hosting chair, which mean a new interview. This week he has an existential discussion with God and the Devil. The three talk about far out things like divine intervention, the meaning of life... Oh wait! Sorry, this is not a religious interview at all. God 8 the Devil is an Austin, Texas rock band and the subject of this week's episode! There is a lot of blues and spacey music to this episode, so please relax and enjoy the conversation. Track list: A Pendulum Pulse in a Mechanical Heart (From "The Cosmos and You") Inner Dimensions of the Space-Time Continuum (From "The Cosmos and You") A Contact on the Mothership (From "The Cosmos and You") Time is Money (From "Cultivate Your Mind") Goin' South (From "The Cosmos and You") | 11/11/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitShuffled #19: Chiptune Edition | This week, Matt Giguere joins Alex for the umpteenth time. Chiptune music is on the docket for discussion today, and discuss it they shall. Hear about the tech behind it, the stage show some of the artists put on, and some great samples. ExplicitShuffled #18: Marnie Stern Interview | This week's episode of Shuffled, we are trying something a little different. For starters Alex has handed the reigns over to Cerebral Pop writer, Matt Giguere (don't worry, Alex will be back next episode). Also, this is the first episode of Shuffled where we have an actual musical guest. Matt was able to catch up with master guitar shredder Marnie Stern for a quick one on one interview at Boston's Middle East Upstairs. So please enjoy this departure from the norm and bask in the face-melting licks from one of music's craziest guitarists. Track List 1. For Ash (From: Marnie Stern) 2. ExplicitShuffled #17: Tyler Abstract’s Fave 5 | When you invite a self-described "lover of the fine herb" onto your podcast and tell him to pick out five songs from artists that really affected him, it tends to turn into a themed playlist. In this extremely late episode of Shuffled (Sorry!), Tyler Abstract of the abstractjapan.com podcast joins me once again. There are plenty of classics you've no doubt heard of, and others that you might not have. Sit back with whatever substances you may or may not partake in and enjoy. Track List 1. ExplicitShuffled #16: Factory Edition | I felt like there was too many talk-centric episodes in a row, so I made a music-filled episode. This time, I tried my hand at hand-picking a playlist of music based around a topic, much like Alex Martin does with Unoriginal Soundtracks, though, my topic is my new job, not a video game. Hop on the rollercoaster of emotions that is my day-to-day grind, and enjoy the tunes that describe those emotions. Track List 1. The Vines - Factory (From: Highly Evolved) 2. Oh No! Oh My! - Go To Work (From: Daytrotter Session) 3. ExplicitShuffled #15: The Japanese Way | In this episode of Shuffled, I welcome the Japan-obsessed Tyler Abstract on to explain to me exactly what is so special about the Japanese music culture. ExplicitShuffled #14: The Rap Connection | On this episode of Shuffled, I do my best to remedy a big gap in the music I feature by inviting on someone who grew up listening to rap. Brian Shirk joins me to discuss how he discovered rap, why he connected to it so much, and some of his favorite artists. It's an all rap edition of Shuffled! Which might never happen again, unless Brian wants to come on again. Because, frankly, I'm out of my element here. I think I said something about hoes. Oh god, that's embarrassing. Track List 1. Z-Ro - T.H.U.G. (True Hero Under God) (From: I'm Still Livin) 2. Z-Ro - Battlefield (From: I'm Still Livin) 3. Z-Ro - You (From: Crack) 4. Trae - Days of My Life (From: Losing Composure) 5. ExplicitShuffled Podcast #12: Umlaut Edition | It's another solo show, shuffling through my music library and sharing a bit about why the songs are in there. It has been a hectic time and a fried laptop harddrive was at the top of the pile for preventing me from getting a guest, but don't worry because I'm back in business and ready to pump out some shows. This week we bookend a goofy song and a dancier song with some rock, metal, and German punk. And there are plenty of umlauts. Enjoy! Track List 1. The Hives - Hate to Say I Told You So (From: Your New Favourite Band) 2. Fall Silent - Sound Dilation (From: Six Years in the Desert) 3. Green Jellÿ - Anthem (From: 333) 4. ExplicitShuffled Podcast #11: Rock Out Edition | Its been almost two months since the last "normal format" episode of Shuffled. Hopefully you've enjoyed the experimentation, but I figured we should probably get back to actually putting my music in Shuffle mode, since it's kind of the name of the show. On this episode, Shuffle decided it wants us to rock the hell out. So, crank it up. Track List 1. The Beatsteaks - You Walk (From: 48/49) 2. The Casualties - Tomorrow Belongs to Us (From: On the Front Line) 3. The Nobodys - Best Damn T**s (I've Ever Seen) (From: Generation XXX) 4. ExplicitShuffled #10: mc chris Spectacular! | It's the tenth episode of Shuffled, which is some kind of milestone. To celebrate, Matt Giguere once again joins me, this time to discuss the man that brought rap to a whole new audience: the nerds. Buy his album here. Track List 1. Zuckuss' Prius (From: Part Six, Part Two) 2. I Want Candy (From: Aquateen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film Soundtrack) 3. ExplicitShuffled #9: Matt Giguere’s Fave 5 | In this episode recent Cerebral Pop recruit Matt Giguere joins me to share some of his absolute favorite music. We talk about five bands that mean a lot to him, and play a song from each. Plus there are tangents about those awful bands you used to like, the Japanese music scene, and metal. Oh, and stick around to the end to find out what sort of horribly embarrassing editing I did to poor Matt. It's another Fave 5! Enjoy! Track List 1. Apollo Sunshine - 666: The Coming of the New World Government (From: Shall Noise Upon) 2. Nujabes - Love (Sic) Pt. 3 (Featuring Shing02) (From: Modal Soul) 3. Barenaked Ladies - Who Needs Sleep? ExplicitShuffled Podcast #8: That Crack Rock Steady Beat | On this episode of Shuffled Luis Alvarez once again joins me. This time we discuss a group of bands...or, a genre, or as Luis puts it, an idea; Crack Rock Steady. Starting with Choking Victim, this unique brand of punk as created countless spin-off acts and inspired plenty of copycats. If you're a fan of the genre maybe you'll learn something new, but if you have no idea it existed, well, strap yourself in. We talk about nearly everything tangentially related to these bands, and you'll hear music samples following along behind it all. Hopefully by the end you'll be just as big a fan as Luis and I are. | 4/27/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

A great way to be introduced to new music
I like the format, and there's a great selection of guests and songs each week. Cool intro theme, too.
This podcast made me love again.
I was on my way to school one morning, when a grizzly/panda hybrid bear/marsupial leaped out at me! He told me in the voice of Adam West that he was going to maul me unless I offered him a auditory tribute. I let him listen to Shuffled and we instantly became lovers. I love this podcast and so does my partner, Sangu the Grizzly Panda Bear/Marsupial. The music is very good.
I don't even listen to that much music. What is music?
I don't like talking about music because I don't know what I'm talking about when I talk about music. So Shuffled is good for me because instead of telling me why I SHOULD like something, its approach is "Hey, here are some songs. Whatever" (not a direct quotation). I've heard a lot of music on Shuffled that I like, and some that I was less fond of. But it's presented in a very accessible way, and the hosts change up the format with occasional interviews with musicians and bands I wouldn't have heard of otherwise.
