Maximizing Your Child's Potential - Nov 15,2011 | Jaclyn Pryzbylkowski, Voorhees (NJ) Middle School Language Arts Writing Teacher How Writing Instruction Can Help Children Achieve Their Potential Jaclyn Pryzbylkowski is a Language Arts teacher at the Voorhees (NJ) Middle School. Here she employs many important ideas about two often-maligned subjects that can help children achieve their potential: literature and writing. As she once wrote: “Ever since I received the English award in eighth grade… I realized my love for literature and all its fascinating dynamics…. Without literature, we would not be where we are as humans…. It opens our minds…. During my college experience … I made sure I was completely positive about my career choice. I wanted to be self-fulfilled, do something every day I loved, and touch someone’s life — teaching was the perfect profession to make these dreams a reality.” In her classroom students grow as writers. More importantly, they leave with an appreciation and liking for writing. Students are no longer students in her classroom — they are authors who write to be read. They’re beginning to achieve their potential. | 11/14/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Raising ASD Kids and Teens - The Autspot - Oct 19,2011 | TheAUTSPOT.com was created by Dele Popoola and Greg Koltsov, graduates of the University of California Santa Barbara. Dele’s 18-year old cousin, Matthew, who was diagnosed with autism at an early age, inspired the two young men to create the online community following their graduation from college in 2007. Dele and Greg worked in close collaboration with parents and specialists to create a free online community that would link family members and specialists nationwide who dealt with children diagnosed with autism. Like many others, Dele and Greg are alarmed at the increasing number of children being diagnosed with autism each year. Through TheAUTSPOT social network, they intend to raise the level of awareness about the disorder. They are hopeful that the site will be the bridge that links more experienced individuals with parents of newly-diagnosed children. Through TheAUTSPOT.com, Dele and Greg envision autism being vigorously addressed with collaborative strength. | 10/19/11 | Free | View In iTunes |
