Forgiveness – What is forgiveness? What are the benefits of forgiveness? Why is forgiveness so hard to do? | What is forgiveness? DEFINITION OF FORGIVENESS: Forgiveness is typically defined as the process of concluding resentment, indignation or anger as a result of a perceived offense, difference or mistake, and/or ceasing to demand punishment or restitution. ...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forgiveness Mahatma Gandhi said, "Hate the sin, love the sinner." and "The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong." Today Margaret Branch, Ordained Minister and Metaphysical Counselor, joins me to discuss forgiveness. What it means, why it's so difficult for some of us to do, and how we can learn this vital skill to heal ourselves and our planet. Forgiveness - what does that really mean? When I hear the word forgiveness… I think of someone apologizing to me or I think of me apologizing to someone else for some real or perceived hurt or transgression and the apology is hopefully accepted. I also the about Jesus and Ghandi teaching us to turn the other cheek. And I think of those who are the least deserving of forgiveness…… How do we forgive them? I think of all the emotion involved around forgiveness. A sense of betrayal, heart break, anger, resentment, and hate, all wrapped up in "guilt sandwich." What are the health consequences of not forgiving? Why is it easier to not forgive? What are the benefits of forgiving? What are some different philosophies of forgiveness? The trouble with traditional forgiveness… The fallacy of radical forgiveness… There's an idea or philosophy circulating widely currently - an idea of radical forgiveness. On it's surface, I think there are some merits, but I personally find the concept simplistic and narrow. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding something and perhaps that's a topic for another podcast, but I want to touch on a couple concepts because it kind of falls under the same mantra I have heard before with the concept of the Law of Attraction… Radical forgiveness, as I understand it, has the following basic premises… 1) that "seen from the spiritual perspective, nothing wrong has ever happened, so there is nothing to forgive" 2) that "Our Higher Selves attract others into our lives so we can play out the drama of separation for each other" 3) that the first step in Radical Forgiveness is taking responsibility for creating the situations we're experiencing by saying, "Look what I created!" when something is happening to us. The simplistic idea that we're drawing certain people or situations into our lives in order to see that we are all interconnected and connected to a single Source is fine on the surface. For certain situations I would even say that's true. But these three premises are at least very offensive and ignorant, and at worst damaging to actual victims of say a violent crime, for example. These premises re-victimize an individual by indicating that the traumatic event he or she was forced to endure didn't really happen at all - "it's all in your head" or worse, you're bringing this into your life because your Higher Self needs to learn a lesson or heal a core issue. I don't think a child being raped by a p*******e is supposed to say, "Look what I created!" There are many things that happen in life over which you simply have no control. Recognizing and accepting that is radical and transformational. We also discuss Non-judgement vs Judgement vs Discernment. This next series of questions have been at the core of my personal struggle. My first conscious recollection of inappropriate adult behavior is age three. Subconsciously there are buried memories of inappropriate behavior or abandonment issues from infancy. The result of my wounded inner children are troubled interpersonal relationships, attachment issues, trouble bonding, abandonment issues, constant underlying sadness, and anger. I am able to forgive most of the (ir)responsible adults related to these events, except for one. | 7/2/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Guest, Rev. Will Huttunen, joins me to discuss how to undo karmic patterns of fear and pain that separate us from unconditional | Reverend Will Huttunen, Counsel for the Path of the Divine, Un-conditional Love, joins me to discuss how to undo the karmic patterns of fear and pain that separate us from unconditional love. Reverend Will explains how we can heal ourselves from patterns of un-lovingness and move toward our destiny. We also discuss the topics of positive thinking, judgment, and forgiveness. Confusion "As we are aware of dissenting philosophies, we experience mostly helplessness then apathy. We feel helpless to change for we are conditioned to believe that this is Life and that there is no other way as we have been given this formula from the beginning, which seems hard wired. This is also know as original sin which is a self perpetual manifestation. Original sin has two elements to it. They are, “I feel horrible” and “ I hate how I feel horrible.” In this, sin is sinned against which inflames both the subject and that which is resisting it. The more we hate how we feel, the worse what we feel becomes, the more we hate how it feels and so on." Spiritual Debt "What we have created here is spiritual debt; which is believed to be a loophole in Creation to just get by. This is cheating Creation and ourselves from that which would Truly heal us, the Love and acceptance of ourselves. In feeling this debt, there is a “hopelessness that feels unmovable;” that feels “it will crush us all.” This is the pressure of resistance of the fear of being crushed. Spiritual debt is a reflection of the money system we currently have, based in the denial that creates control and manipulation. As we were unable to handle, thus deal with issues in the past, we have put them off until there was a time to reconcile them. This is also known as post traumatic stress disorder. The problem being here is the way we have dealt with our fear and pain. Further denial is the way that has been chosen the majority of the time through drugs, philosophies, religions and any attractive fear-based addictions we could conjure up. It is one thing to put something off until one can deal with it properly at a later time. It is another thing to act like we will get back to it, without really having any intention to do so. This of course, makes matters much worse." Let's talk about this: "…we have created belief systems for the destruction of Creation." Positive Thinking The traditional view of Positive thinking vs. your take on it. "As one represses self, the Universe acts in like reply (karma/attraction) and creates un-Lovingness." Judgment vs Discernment "If you believe God’s Will is to repress and judge yourself and your Will, then you are dealing with an impostor. Your thoughts based in fear are not your Desires. Your Desires and Will are based in Love, just like God’s. In this there is no separation." "God’s Will is the Revolution. We have separated ourselves from this notion of Desire and Will associating it with the sin of lust and its wild appetite that does whatever it feels like. This judgment represses the feminine aspect of self no different than we have seen the repression of women on the planet; only worse. While the thinking aspect of self is male polarized, the feminine aspect of self feels. You may notice what aspect of self has the notoriety and what aspect was told it was crazy and thus judged. The judgment of feeling is the repression of The Divine Mother. The Goddess is not recognized at all in most religions and when She is there is no mention of Her equality to God our Father. God’s Will is The Mother’s Desire. It is also your Desire that feels what is right." Forgiveness "It seems we have forgotten how to forgive. It seems we have forgotten even how to Love. These statements are not exaggerations as you can notice just how much Love is in your Life. Even pondering this concept will elicit the fear of lack. If you base that you have Love simply because you have what we would call relative peace, then you have called apathy Love. | 11/12/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Practicing Yoga – Transforming self through the yoga sutras | Solo practice? Or a class? Indoors or out? Ultimately, for me a yoga class on the beach would be ideal! But in the meantime, I go to an indoor yoga class three times a week. In the past I've done solo yoga using Rodney Yee's DVDs . I have Yee's "Total Body Yoga for Beginners," "Yoga for Back Care" (critical for me), and "Power Yoga Strength and Flexibility." I like the DVDs and still use them on occasion, but I found the energy of a class is so much more rewarding than solo. I've tried Bikram Yoga, but hated it because of the high temperatures. By the way, it's a myth that there is any beneficial type of detoxification that happens with this type of yoga. There are no toxins contained in sweat, merely water and trace amounts of salt, urea, proteins, and carbohydrates. The purpose of sweat is to cool an overheating body. Think about that for a minute… why would you purposely put more strain on the body to try to maintain homeostasis by exercising in heat and increasing core body temperature? That's just asking for trouble. It's important to understand that detoxification occurs in the liver, waste is filtered by the kidneys, and some gaseous toxins are secreted through the lungs via respiration. Toxins and metabolic wastes are excreted through the excretory system and the digestive system. No extra heat needed - promise! In fact, exercising in high temperatures can be very dangerous -- especially for people with high blood pressure, heart problems, or other health issues. At the very least, exercising in high temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion, or even heat stroke, which is a life threatening condition. Okay, that's my PSA for the day. Moving on... For now, I've settled into a routine of Hatha Yoga (hatha vidya) and vinyasa yoga that works well for me. Although, I'm beginning to think that three times per week is not enough, so I may have to supplement those classes at another location. The yoga classes I attend tend to lean toward mostly the physical or asana aspect of yoga, with gentle reminders to pay attention to pranayama, but it's not true yoga practice in the strictest sense of the meaning. Even though my instructor has wonderful energy and a perfectly soothing voice for recitation throughout the hour long class, I am left to my own devices to supplement my yoga practice to truly implement a full study in daily life. Easy to say…. challenging to do! However, as I continue on my journey of seeking truth and connecting with source, I know yoga will be an integral part of my transformation. As will meditation - but I'll address that in other posts. I currently supplement my yoga practice with time on the treadmill, pushups, sit-ups, and swimming. Eventually I hope to advance to Ashtanga Yoga, a much more physically challenging and advanced yoga that requires stricter discipline in practice. I'm also interested in learning about yoga retreats. I recently learned that the Ocean Beach Namaste Yoga Center has held yoga retreats in Costa Rica, Mexico, and the Sierra Nevadas. Intriguing for sure. Come to think of it, so is yoga in Maui with Rodney Yee! =) So what about you? How long have you been practicing yoga? Do you prefer solo or class practice? How often do you practice yoga? And what type of yoga do you practice? Have you ever been to a yoga retreat? If so, I'd love to hear about your experiences. Do you start each morning with Sun Salutations? Do you supplement your yoga practice with other types of workouts? Have you seen improvements in your overall physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being as a result of practicing yoga? Please feel free to comment and share your personal experience with yoga practice and how this practice has enhanced your life. Are we spiritual beings living a human existence? | I’ve had an interesting dance with religion, spirituality, and metaphysical experiences. Originally raised Agnostic in a small village in England, my only interaction and understanding of churches was appreciation of the architecture as my stepmom and I participated in the art and practice of brass rubbing. In my early years there was no talk of “God” or “the afterlife” or any such esoterica. Read the rest of this article ...
