Podcast Description
Although Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a condition commonly thought of as only affecting children, for nearly 9 million adults in the United States, ADHD is very much a reality. According to the National Institutes of Mental Health, ADHD is thought to be a biological condition, usually inherited, and tends to run in some families more than others. In fact, almost 40 percent of adults diagnosed with ADHD have at least one other immediate family member who is also diagnosed with ADHD or experiences symptoms sufficient to warrant a diagnosis. Research on the life span of the condition notes it impairs academic, social and occupational functioning. In support of the adult ADHD community, McNeil Pediatrics presents “Everyday Challenges: Taking a Closer Look at Adult ADHD,” a video series designed to help adults with ADHD overcome the everyday challenges they face. The series features adults with ADHD, patient advocates and healthcare professionals that share their real-life stories and experiences related to the condition. From home life and communicating with their families, to work and social interactions, these adults provide an honest glimpse into their lives as adults diagnosed with ADHD and offer tips on how to successfully manage the condition. Be sure to visit this series again as new videos are featured in the coming months. In 2008, these panelists were paid consultants for McNeil Pediatrics™, Division of Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
