| 2 | VideoTERRA 620: Trust-Series 2 | TRUST is a 10-part series about a perfect trifecta. The Public Trust Doctrine is a legal doctrine enshrined in the laws of every civilized government and holds governments accountable to protect the resources we share in common and depend on for our very survival. The principle of inter-generational justice is enshrined in international human rights law â€" simply put, it means that the adults can't have a party on the planet and leave it a mess for the kids. Combine the Public Trust Doctrine with the principles of intergenerational justice and passionate youth, who are fighting for their future in the courts and on the streets, and we have the perfect trifecta. Why? Because youth across the country are bringing legal actions - based on trust - against the federal and state governments, so we will open our eyes and protect our atmosphere and our futures with smart strategies rooted in science. In Part 2 of the TRUST Series, meet Nelson Kanuk, a 17-year old who learned how climate change was affecting his community and felt he could best help by sharing his story. In this 8-minute film, Nelson explains that the main problem facing the northern parts of the world is that winter is coming later and later. This results in increased erosion due to permafrost melt, increased flooding due to warmer temperatures, and intensified storms because the sea ice forms later in the season and is unable to provide a natural barrier for our coastal communities. This, in turn, leads in the loss of homes, communities, cultures, and a way of life. Go to http://ourchildrenstrust.org/ to learn more about the campaign. | 1/21/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

| 5 | VideoTERRA 617: Our Tomorrow | The environmental problems of the world are overwhelming and terrifying, yet something about this fear seems so familiar. Are we living in The End Times? Should we simply give up and admit defeat? In a fascinating mix of interviews, images, and animation, "Our Tomorrow" muses on the natural world and the Apocalypse. | 12/9/11 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 6 | VideoTERRA 616: TRUST - Series #1 | Trust is a 10-part series about a perfect trifecta. The Public Trust Doctrine is a legal doctrine that traces back to Roman times and holds governments accountable to protect the resources we all share in common and depend upon for our very survival. The principle of inter-generational justice is enshrined in international human rights law and simply put, it means that the adults can't have a party on the planet and leave it a mess for our kids. Combine the Public Trust Doctrine with the principles of inter-generational justice and passionate youth who are fighting for their future in both the courts and on the streets, and we have the perfect trifecta. Why? Because youth across the country are bringing legal actions - based on trust - against the federal and state governments so we will all open our eyes and protect our atmosphere and our futures with smart strategies rooted in science. Part 1: Meet Alec Loorz, a 17-year old climate change activist from Oak View, California. When Alec was 12, he saw Inconvenient Truth for the first time. Since then he has been a dedicated activist for climate change. Part 2: Meet John Thiebes, a 23-year old beginning farmer has set out to change the agricultural practices on a worn-out patch of prairie in the agricultural heart of Montana. | 7 | VideoTERRA 614: ***Newcomer Nomination*** Feeding the Problem | ***TERRA is proud to re-air Feeding the Problem. Produced by Danny Schmidt, this film was nominated for the Marian Zunz Newcomer Award at the 2011 Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival. What began in 1912 as a gracious effort to save the Jackson Hole elk herd from harsh winters, shrinking habitat, and dwindling forage, has morphed into a century-long feeding program on what is now the National Elk Refuge and 22 other State-run feed grounds. This biological experiment has created a petri dish for wildlife disease and is now one of the most contentious, fiercely debated issues in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Feeding the Problem is a balanced and in-depth exploration of this unique conservation dilemma from the people most intimately connected to it. | 10/31/11 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 8 | VideoTERRA 613: Biofilm | "Biofilm" is an introduction to a relatively new field of medical research that investigates bacteria colonies known as biofilm. Recent research has shown that biofilm colonies often inhabit wounds of immuno-compromised patients, which consequently result in chronic wounds (wounds that remain open for months and years). Biofilm infections are difficult to treat and can lead to the amputation of limbs. | 10/14/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

The spirit bear, globally rarer than the panda, only lives on the north coast of British Columbia and gives and inspiring look at the interconnectedness of this coastal ecosystem existing in symbiosis with the indigenous communities there for thousands of years. By following three world renown photographers and the relationships they build with indigenous guides throughout a 10 day photo expedition, viewers experience stunning imagery of the biodiversity that exists when a wild land meets a wild ocean. | 8/29/11 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 12 | VideoTERRA 609: Spaced Out | What is life? Do we need to define it on order to study its origins? What does it even mean "to define" something? For scientists in more established fields, such as physics or chemistry, these questions are nice to ponder in an armchair by a toasty fire â€" away from one's research. However, for the emerging field of astrobiology, the search for life in the universe seems to blur the lines between hard science and armchair philosophy. Or does it? In "Spaced Out," chemists and philosophers from Montana State University's astrobiology research group share their perspectives on the issue. | 7/5/11 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 13 | VideoTERRA 608: The Species Problem | These days the term 'species' is thrown around as if it were a definite unit, but the realities of defining a species are much trickier, and more contentious, than they seem. Biologists have been arguing over the definition of a species since the dawn of humanity, but have yet to come up with a single species concept that works for all types of life. This film explores current concepts from the various fields of biology and covers some of the specific problems they encounter. | 5/30/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

| 58 | VideoTERRA 504: Fueling the Inferno | Nearly a century of aggressive fire suppression has left our National Forests overcrowded and disease infested, leading to historically high amounts of dead and live fuels accumulation. This paired with a recent trend of hotter and drier summers sets the stage for a surge in conflagrations so immense that more and more fire suppression efforts are proving futile. Not only does this epidemic threaten our wild legacy, but it also puts thousands of firefighters, homeowners, and those who recreate at risk. Fueling The Inferno provides an introduction to this issue and explores some of the causal factors and societal implications. | 2/11/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Madison Valley, just north of Yellowstone, is a richly diverse ecosystem where just about every big-game species in Montana can be found. Grizzly and black bears, wolverines, elk, deer, moose, and pronghorns all use the Valley for seasonal migration, food, and breeding. However, development and the resulting fragmentation of large, interconnected ranges put this habitat at risk for the animals, especially wolverines, which are particularly intolerant of human activity and require vast ranges for their survival. K.C. Breen shows us how human encroachment in the Valley is being mitigated for wildlife's sake in "Yellowstone's Wildlife Highway: Promoting Connectivity in the Madison Valley". | 6/26/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

| 168 | VideoTERRA 338: Oil On Ice PART SIX | What have we learned from the debate over drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge? Is it just another place where we should take what is there and use it with no thought of the consequences? Does ANWR represent a vital resource to keep our society running the way it has for much of the 20th Century? Hopefully, if nothing else, it makes us think about the other possibilities out there. The finale to "Oil on Ice" shows us there are not only viable alternatives to using oil, but that these alternatives would actually be cheeper and better for all of us. Solar power, hybrid cars, wind power - take your pick, we just need to take that first step into the unknown. We'll have to change our behavior some time soon, so why not do it now and preserve some of the most beautiful areas of the world while we're at it? | 8/30/07 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 169 | VideoTERRA 337: Oil On Ice PART FIVE | Gwich'in natives travel to Washington D.C. to square off with George W. Bush and Alaska's pro-drilling congressional leaders. In the past, the 'impact' of drilling has been perceived to be a local environmental issue - relevant, surely, to the caribou and the Gwich'in but who else? The disastrous implications of climate change have certainly changed that attitude. ANWR is not a local issue anymore; it is a global issue. The burning of fossil fuels affects us all as global citizens not as local ones; therefore, Alaskans, Americans, the people of Tuvalu, all have something at stake. With respect to climate change, Buckminster Fuller said it best: "think globally, act locally." It is now time to recognize alternatives globally and to put those alternatives into practice locally. | 8/21/07 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 170 | VideoTERRA 336: Oil On Ice PART FOUR | When you look at a map of the northern reaches of Alaska, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge represents a tiny proportion of the entire coast line. Ninety percent of this land is already being drilled for oil - indeed, ANWR is the only remaining area where drilling is not permitted. ANWR represents the only area where caribou will still migrate, the people can still live their preferred subsistence way of life and the land still looks like it did fifty years ago. So why would we take this last place for such short-term gain? Why would we risk this area when there are so many viable alternatives? World oil reserves will run out - no question. So why not use and develop one of the many technologies we have as an alternative now, instead of risking more destruction? Get involved - we all have to act now and change our behavior so that there is something left for future generations to be proud of. | 8/15/07 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 171 | VideoTERRA 335: Oil On Ice PART THREE | The Gwich'in tribe of Northern Alaska have been hunting caribou in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve for hundreds of years. The caribou migrate into the area to take advantage of the Spring grasses so their new born calves get the nutrition they need to survive the long, Arctic winter. 80% of these calves are born in the exact spot that is proposed for oil drilling - known to us simply by a number - 1002, but know to the Gwich'in as home. If area 1002 is developed for oil, this keystone species will be wiped out, along with the natural systems it supports. Almost 20 years after the Exxon Valdise oil spill in Southern Alaska, the Native American tribes of that area have still not been paid any compensation for the loss of their fisheries, even though they won that right in court - is it any wonder the Gwich'in are terrified of the possibilities of oil drilling in their home? | 8/8/07 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 172 | VideoTERRA 334: Oil On Ice PART TWO | In 1989 Prince William Sound in southern Alaska was hit with one of the worst manmade, environmental disasters of all time. The now infamous Exxon Valdez oil tanker struck a reef on its way out to sea and spilled 11 million gallons of crude oil into the ocean. The result was an ecological catastrophe of which the true impact is still not fully understood almost 20 years later. What is known is that fish populations have plummeted, marine wildlife has left the area and the subsistence fishermen of the sound have lost their income and their way of life. Can we really afford to let this happen again? Is it worth the risk to the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve just so that our dependence on oil is extended by another decade or two? Get the answers in Part Two of "Oil On Ice". | 8/1/07 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 173 | VideoTERRA 333-335: Oil on Ice PREVIEW | There are few places in the world as beautiful as the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve. Its huge mountains and endless plains are rich with caribou, bears, wolves and muskoxen. Unfortunately, this area is also rich with oil. There are many politicians who believe that drilling in Alaska is the only way to stop America's oil dependence on the middle east - and if the wildlife and human inhabitants of ANWR are adversely affected - then so be it. Get ready to find out exactly what is happening and how you can help stop it in "Oil on Ice" | 7/25/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

They work together to make sure the Big Hole Valley prospers economically while maintaining its environmental integrity. We could all learn something from these scientists and cowboys - putting aside their differences and making sure that the Big Hole is a clean and safe environment for "Fish and Cow" alike. | 7/18/07 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 176 | VideoTERRA 331: Fish and Cow PART ONE | There are many stereotypes when it comes to environmentalists. Most people think of long-haired tree huggers who get around in torn jeans and Birkenstocks. But in the Big Hole Valley in Montana, the "greenies" look quite different. They are most often found on tractors tending to cattle or saddling up their horse in a barn. That's because the main push to conserve this beautiful valley comes from its ranching community. Conservation and ranching have often been thought of as mutually exclusive activities, but the farmers of the Big Hole are proving this wrong. So get your cowboy boots on and join us to see how conservation and traditional farming combine, in part one of "Fish and Cow" | 7/10/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Many films have been made about the plight of the snow leopard but this is no ordinary animal behavior flick! Meet Charles and his wife Ann who journeyed to Mongolia along with their one-year old son seeking the snow leopard on the adventure of a lifetime . . . and in the process, discovered so much more. | 5/29/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Big, Bold, Beautiful and Maybe Something Totally New!
I remember my grandfather talking about the birth of televison - how it had the potential to educate and entertain at the same time. Clearly, this is no longer the case in the corporate TV world. But this is the dawn of the video podcast and TERRA has restored my faith in media to tell mesmerizing, adventurous, poignant, and thought-provoking stories. Each film is different but all together this podcast speaks a simple yet powerful message: INVESTIGATE THE WORLD and LEAVE IT A BETTER PLACE THAN YOU FOUND IT ! Thanks for making my world a better place too!
Top Quality podcast, better than a lot of TV....
It's nice to see a high quality podcast that isn't just a bunch of random thoughts or an overview of hollywood gossip. I cannot rate this show high enough. Smart, thoughtful, and thoroughly entertaining. I hope they keep up the quality, it's better than most stuff on the Discovery Network....
Gotta check this one out
