Podcast Description
Mostly True Stories from Real Opera Professionals~ without the pipe and bowtie... Raised in the Piney Woods of East Texas, metropolinated by my career choice, my mission is to pull back the curtain, remove the velvet ropes, and give the public at large an insight into the lives of the real people behind opera in the United States and abroad. You won’t hear about fin-de-siecle Paris and the anti-imperialist overtones exhibited in compositions during that time, Bach’s 12th son’s dog’s name, or Alban Berg’s distaste for liver… we’re just going to talk to each other, like we do. Once a week, I’ll invite you to sit down with me and one of my friends as we tell the stories that we tell each other across drinks every time we get the pleasure of working together. We welcome you to sit back, relax, pop a top or two, and get to know the people behind the curtain. Questions, Comments? mazerthehazer@gmail.com

The Mazer does it again....
Michael Mayes is a new breed of opera singer...one who realizes that it it is up to him to help save this dying art form. By highlighting some of the truly terrific characters (offstage) in this business, Texapolitan Opera helps break down some of the preconceived notions about opera singers. Mike is a regular guy, with a wicked sense of humor, a keen eye for the fun and bizarre, and by the way...a pretty formidable talent on the opera stage. Do yourself a favor, and make time to listen!
Mayes does a wonderful job
Michael has created a great, fun and informal way to experience the artists in the fairly formal way of opera. The format feels like a voyeur catching a personal chat between friends that really humanizes and gives a well rounded experience of budding and well established opry sangers. The humor is wonderful and endearing. Bravo sir, play on!
happy I found this
ok....um this rocks!!!
love that you are making the operatic world more accesible...love hearing all the crap stripped away from the hoity-toity. it may not be artsy-fartsy, but there's lots a fart in this art.
