Podcast Description

We hold this truth to be self-evident — if every citizen spent a little bit of time playing the ukulele, the world would be a nicer place. At www.thebeatlescompleteonukulele.com we will release a new recording of a Beatles song* featuring a different artist every Tuesday. A short essay will coincide with every recording and each performance will include a ukulele. The project began on January 20, 2009 (Inauguration Day) and will conclude on July 31, 2012. (The eve of the London Olympics)

A Truly Magical Mystery Tour!

Contrary to the boorish opinions of the previous taste-deprived commenters, this collection of tributes to The Beatles is absolutely fabulous! These are not mere "cover" versions of Beatles songs-- of which, admittedly, we have all heard too many which simply fail to equal the original. The Beatles Complete on Ukulele is on a whole different level. These are complex, exciting, and fresh reinterpretations and re-renderings of the music, sometimes delivered by artists from backgrounds or genres that might seem unlikely to produce a Beatles cover. But, again, this is not an attempt to replicate The Beatles, or even tweak the tempo a bit. This is like starting with a sheet of music and turning it into an origami crane, or walrus.

The project is inspired by the ukulele--an instrument with only four strings and a range of less than two octaves, but with seemingly limitless imagination and chutzpah. The ukulele is also an instrument well known to have been beloved by the members of The Beatles, and was quite likely the vehicle for more than a few of their musical creations. The instrument itself figures more prominently in some of the pieces than in others, but if you listen through the whole collection, I guarantee you will not feel that you are listening to a "ukulele album,"--not that there's anything wrong with that. What you will hear are charming and delightful compositions and arrangements performed by very skilled artists.

In short, if you are a true, die-hard Beatles fan, then you are a musical risk-taker who embraces the new and relishes the surprising and playful possibilities of a world based on Love. Otherwise, this is not a project for the faint of heart, the musically timid, or the emotionally constipated. So, if you do not fit the description above, keep your distance!

Excellent Covers

I've been following the Beatles Complete since 2009, and have not been disappointed. They offer excellent covers and educational essays on each song. I recommend this podcast, and the website to all of my friends.

Informative and magical.

Can't wait for the full discography.
