Podcast Description
“The Blue Mojave” is a live radio noir created by Evan Calbi. The podcast is based on a radio show of the same name that aired in 1947 in the high-desert cities of Southern California. After a year of broadcasts, the show ended under mysterious circumstances and all recordings are believed to have been lost. In 2005, Calbi found several old scripts at a garage sale in Riverside and has since worked to revive the story. A new production was remounted at Unknown Theater in Los Angeles in the spring of 2007 where it enjoyed a monthly residency until the venue’s recent closing. ABOUT THE STORY: Private detective Cal Archer has been hired once again to bail out the daughter of one of California’s wealthiest barons after a stallion is killed at the stables of a nefarious businessman with ties to organized crime. While G.I.’s flood Los Angeles at the end of WWII, California’s governor Earl Warren runs for reelection unopposed after winning the nominations of the Democratic, Progressive, and Republican parties. Archer follows a trail that leads to the highest chambers of power in the state. Tour the Blue Mojave, where windswept roads line the horizon and hearts howl in unison on a deafening plain.
