ExplicitEpisode 5: “Arrogance, Denial, or Brilliant Intuition” with Patrick Scully | On June 11, 2011, the Minneapolis performance venue and arts organization, Patrick’s Cabaret, celebrated its 25th anniversary. In this episode, Patrick’s Cabaret founder Patrick Scully joins me to discuss the origin of the Cabaret, making art with a Marxist sensibility, living with HIV, and nearly getting run out of town during a gay community dance in Wolverton, MN in 1981. ExplicitRadio Hour, Episode 4: “Calving Season” | It took a while, but Episode 4 is here, (audio) warts and all. In April 2011, I went with my friend Kristi Lammers to her family's cattle ranch in Miller, SD. I fed a horse. I met a real cowboy. I saw a cow give birth. I learned what a water bag is. I felt much less uncomfortable than I thought I would. GhostsAndHorses@gmail.com GhostsAndHorses.com | 7/5/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitJune Bonus 1: “Talking Bull Semen” | I'm giving the Radio Hour proper a little extra TLC this month, so in the meantime enjoy this bit of conversation between Kristi Lammers and me, in which we talk bull semen and I demonstrate how I might seduce a cow. ExplicitRadio Hour, Episode 3.5: “One for the Audio Nerds” | I have a pretty hefty podpod for you this month. Twenty-six minutes long, and I barely understand a word of what was said. This one is strictly for my audio nerds. In it… …DJ Absolute of Soulcrate talks about gear and recording rap music. …Joe Thoen of Artifact Shore talks about gear and recording electronic-influenced rock music… Or is it rock-influenced electronic music? Just don’t call it avant-garde. Joe hates that. …I talk about gear and screwing up the recording of my podcast. GhostsAndHorses@gmail.com GhostsAndHorses.com | 5/22/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitRadio Hour, Episode 3: | Striptease, breakbeats, and another dark night of the soul situation for yours truly. This episode is about people making the things that they make. In it... ...Corey Ruffin (a.k.a. Mr. Happy Pants) of "Super Happy Funtime Burlesque" discusses how to tour the country with an 18 member varitey show. Step one: buy a school bus. ...Absolute and A Def of Soulcrate Music sit me down to explain where rap songs come from, because my dad never had that talk with me when I was growing up. ..."Fix Me" returns, with one of my oldest friends, Dessa, suggesting that I tend to lose interest in creative endeavors before seeing them through. I'd finish telling you about the segment, but instead I'm going to go write the first two acts of a play or something... ExplicitEpisode 2.5: “Weekend Getaway” | Another Ghosts & Horses podpod! After Heather Mangan was evacuated from her Peace Corps assignment in Niger, she and some friends decided to spend a weekend seeing the sights in Egypt. They didn't plan to stumble into the revolution. It just happened that way... If you haven't yet, why don't you subscribe to The Ghosts & Horses Radio Hour in iTunes? It's not like it would kill you to do that. I mean, come on! GhostsAndHorses@gmail.com GhostsAndHorses.com | 4/25/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitRadio Hour, Episode 2: “Buena Onda” | A very expatriotic episode of the Radio Hour. Within... ...Tania Grogan just wanted to live in a big city in the United States when she left Brazil three decades ago. She stepped off the plane in South Dakota, mid-January, and--curiously--she's still here, teaching English Language Arts to children whose move to the United States was significantly less voluntary than hers. ...Heather Mangan discusses the abrupt end to her time working in Niger as a Peace Corps volunteer. And was she responsible for a recent cholera outbreak in New York City? Circumstantial evidence suggests...maybe? (You’ll have to check out Episode 2.5 to find out for sure) ...Kat Burdine spent two years in Honduras helping to build OYE Honduras, a leadership program for at-risk youth. Oh, yeah, and she was almost arrested during the 2009 coup d'etat. GhostsAndHorses@gmail.com GhostsAndHorses.com | 4/1/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitRadio Hour, Episode 1.5: “Fantastic” | Episode 1.5: "Fantastic" This is what's called a "microsode" or a "smallcast" or a "podpod." In it... ...Dessa reads a new, melancholically whimsical piece of fiction. Is that even a thing? Enjoy "Fantastic," and if you're anywhere near Sioux Falls, enjoy her live performance at Skelly's Pub on April 23. And if you're anywhere near the West Coast, check out her tour with Sims in the weeks following. While you're there, don't forget to stop by the merch table to pick up her critcally acclaimed album, A Badly Broken Code and her wonderful book of prose and poetry, Spiral Bound. | 3/16/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitEpisode 1: “Once You Cross 8 Mile…” | Episode One: "Once You Cross 8 Mile..." It's the inaugural edition of The Ghosts & Horses Radio Hour! Within... ...Graphic artist Kiel Mutschelknaus talks "grades," "curriculum" and "education," and dishes on the celebrity alumni of his Alma mater, the Cranbrook Academy of Art (Eminem's fictional rival, Papa Doc, definitely would have gone to Cranbrook, had he existed in real life), before making some half-hearted rationalizations for why he is paying good money to go there. ...Dessa, of the Minneapolis rap crew Doomtree, discusses the business of running an indie record label, and the lag between public notoriety and financial viability. It turns out living off of your art involves a lot more conference calls than you might think, and probably about as much whiskey as you might have guessed. ...My ex-girlfriend, Jess, offers some constructive criticism of my brief performance as her boyfriend. Will this frank exchange help "Fix Me," as the title of the segment suggests? Or will it ultimately send me headlong into another of the shame spirals that have thus far punctuated so much of my life? Never mind what I said in the show: I didn't edit out any of the really embarrassing stuff. I guess bootlegged DVDs just aren't very romantic... Terrific Start
I just finished listening to the premier episode of this podcast, and I found myself getting lost in the interviews while sitting in my driveway. I especially enjoyed the interview with the hosts ex-girlfriend. I'm looking forward to future episodes of this podcast.
I want more!
Love this podcast. Subtle, pleasantly awkward, and often self-depracating (spelling?). Good stuff all around.
Ready for the next podcast!!
Hahaha, my favorite section was the discussion with the ex-girlfriend...it was not THAT awkward. Actually, yes it was awkward but hilarious to listen to. Brian has a great sense of humor and I'm looking forward to the next podcast! It's nice to have a podcast that is honest and relates to everyone.
