Podcast Description
Joe Dugandzic, a podcaster for several years, and Babe Caylor, former radio personality and community leader with 1n10, co-host QTalk Arizona’s original show. Featuring lively commentary on news and current events, plus unique interviews that showcase the people in our own community. Babe joined Joe in April 2011 for the re-launched QTalk Arizona. It was fitting, as Babe was a guest on the very first episode of QTalk Arizona in 2010. Joe has known Babe ever since they met when he was a participant in the 1n10 youth program in 1998. Since then, Joe has also been active in the community, serving on the Board of Directors for Phoenix Pride and also being involved with Aunt Rita’s Foundation. He’s glad to continue ‘giving back’ to the community with QTalk Arizona. Join Joe and Babe LIVE for their call-in show on Saturday afternoons at 1pm MST.

Joe and Babe #77: Obama endorses marriage equality! | This week, we start the show with a bit of chat about Obama's 'evolved' stance on marriage equality and what it means for the upcoming election and our future marriage rights. Clayton McKee is kind enough to engineer our show this week and chimes in on the equality topic and many others, including how he's adjusting to his return to radio on his own show. Our old friend Cheril Vendetti calls in to talk about her new cookbook that is nearly ready to go to print, we want you to give her $1 on her Kickstarter page so that the cookbook will become a reality! Cheril Vendetti is a lesbian chef, comedian, mom and reality show star. And among other topics on the show, it's National Train Day! Joe chimes in on his love of trains, how 'the day' got started and what the future of personal transportation might look like! All that and more on Joe and Babe, heard every week on QTalk Arizona and QTalk America, join us at 1pm MT/PT and interact with the show as we record it! | 5/13/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Joe and Babe #76: Curtt James wins the Lytro and the Supermoon wreaks havoc! | On this insanely short episode, the Supermoon has reigned down chaos on our studio equipment and even on guest scheduling. We think we'll do this all over again next weekend! But, we did manage to get a few things done during the show! Babe is out this week and Joe was flying solo. Joe did the big announcement with Curtt James in the studio as the winner of our Lytro camera giveaway. Congratulations Curtt!! He and a friend came down from Prescott just to get the camera in-person and 'on-air' and we were thrilled that they made the trip! The Supermoon affected our connection systems and thus wiped out any hopes for a broadcast today. After later tearing the studio apart, our engineers got the system working again -- but a bit too late! We hope to bring you the interview with Poppy Champlin on Sunday's "What The Hell in AZ?" with guest host Travis Edwards. And other than that, Poppy and the Queer Queens of Qomedy will be at Stand Up Live at Cityscape this Wednesday night at 8pm. Get tickets before they sell-out! Also coming up, don't miss two special screenings of Bullied To Silence, at the Phoenix Art Museum. 11am and 2pm on Sat May 12th with special intro commentary by Nicole Stanton. And check out our interview with the filmmakers for more information! Get tickets at www.bulliedtosilence.com | 5/5/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Joe and Babe #75: Ronnie Kroell just wants to be himself, plus a scorching Phoenix Pride weekend | Ronnie Kroell, perhaps best known for his work on Bravo's Make Me A Supermodel and baring all for Playgirl, is our featured interview for this 75th episode of Joe and Babe -- the original show on QTalk Arizona. Ronnie hasn't let the fame and popularity of late distract him from just being "Ronnie" and doing the great work that he does. Oh, did we mention that's he a super-sweet guy and totally adorable? Listen to the interview that Joe recorded with him at last weekend's Splash Bash event and learn more about Ronnie Kroell at his official website. We want to thank everyone who came out to meet us at our booth at Phoenix Pride and who saw us in the Parade as we were doing our live broadcast. It was a great 'coming out party' for QTalk at the festival and we were able to meet lots of new fans! But, did you think it was a little too hot? Would you have stayed at the festival longer or enjoyed it more if it had been in the 80s instead of the 100s? What if Phoenix Pride was held in March? Is that even possible? What if the festival was held at Chase Field? Or at the convention center? Are we being good stewards of our desert environment by creating air-conditioned outdoor zones in a temporary festival setup, just because the festival has to be held in April? We ask these and more questions, and invite you to chime in as well. Send us an email and let us know what you think. In the next few weeks, we'll have Brandi Sokolosky from Phoenix Pride to chime-in on this very topic (she wasn't available due to a Pride wrap-up meeting today). Remember, you can hear us LIVE every Saturday at 1pm MST/PST right here on your gay talk radio station, QTalk Arizona! | 4/28/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Joe and Babe’s 2012 Phoenix Pride Parade LIVE Color Commentary | Color commentary? Yeah yeah, it's the podcast version of our LIVE broadcast, but still great fun! We actually were able (with a few gaps) broadcast out to our streaming audio network from right from our 'Studio-On-Wheels'--another first for QTalk Arizona! Special thanks to listener Bill Barton who volunteered to drive us in his totally sweet Mini Cooper Convertible! And thanks to Seth Anderson for being our official 'marshall' for the parade. | 4/24/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Joe and Babe #73: Bullied to Silence | This week it's all about bullying, or rather the fact that we'd like to see the problem of bullying be solved. We had the opportunity to see the "Bully" movie this week ahead of its general release (locally at Harkins Camelview 5 through 4/19) and it is a very moving, powerful film that will have you going through the entire spectrum of emotions. Bullying, of course, does not just happen to LGBTQ kids but is a larger problem. Join us for a discussion on bullying in today's world and why it has become an even bigger problem in recent years. Our guest this week is filmmaker Susan Broude, producer/writer of "Bullied to Silence", a very different look at the problem of bullying. Broude chose to tell the story of the film directly through many youth who have been bullied themselves, including our own young LGBT rights activist Caleb Laieski. Listen as she talks about the inspiration for the film and about her media company Purple People Inc, which produces short films, documentaries and publishes books to promote equality. "Bullied to Silence" premieres at the Boston International Film Festival on Monday 4/16 and will be shown at the Sedona International Film Festival May 1-4, as well as in Phoenix at the Phoenix Art Museum on May 12. For more details and showtimes, please visit www.bulliedtosilence.com Saturday morning, join Joe and Babe for LIVE coverage of the Phoenix Pride Parade, our audio color commentary starts at 10:30am! And, join us for "The Joe and Babe Show" LIVE via video from the Phoenix Pride festival. Tune-in next week at 3pm at justin.tv/qtalkamerica or just come by our booth, say "hi" and sit down with us for a quick chat! | 4/15/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Joe and Babe #72: Phoenix Pride Through The Years | Babe is out this week, but Clayton McKee jumps in at the last minute and becomes our guest co-host. Our guest this week is none other than Linda Hoffman, President of Phoenix Pride from 2001-2008 and widely credited with saving the organization after "The Storm". What's her story, how did she get involved in Pride in the first place? Well, we've got all that and more for you. Linda's been involved in our community ever since she moved here in the 1980s. From AGRA to Pride to, well, she's still involved with Pride these days...she played great roles in local community organizations. She tells the story of how the local community 'woke up' after we almost lost Pride in 2001 and it started the transition to Phoenix Pride being the organization that it is today. And ultimately, producing much higher caliber events and being a 'force to be reckoned with' in the community. Speaking of Pride, don't forget to look for Joe and Babe in the Phoenix Pride Parade on April 21, we'll be broadcasting LIVE parade commentary from our 'mobile studio' starting at 10:30am at qtalkaz.com/live. And that's not all! Stop by our booth at the festival and enter to win a Lytro camera! Plus, look for the 'red hot' Lytro camera with the Pride photo team and get your picture taken to be part of the 2012 Pride in Living Pictures Photowalk! We here at QTalk are doing big things this year, so come be a part of it and we'll luv you forever! | 4/7/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Joe and Babe #71: Let’s Get Tan! | Keith Lipman and Randy Eddlemon from Tan United and TU Collection join us in the studio to talk about how they became "The Tanning Guys" as they are known in various circles. What are the myths, the hype and the real benefits from "smart tanning" -- and is there even such a thing? Plus, all about their recent addition, TU Collection, an attached clothing boutique that looks straight out of West Hollywood! Also, we have a brief phone chat with Lee Whitman, writer/director of the award-winning film "War Stories" which was shown at the Out in the Desert Film Festival earlier this year. A very ambitious film as his first feature, we talk with Lee about the inspiration behind it, his past and the future. The film just made its debut on DVD and we highly recommend it. Joe and Babe #70: Everybody is on vacation! | Springtime weather is in full swing, and lately it seems that all the QTalk Arizona hosts have left for vacation! This week, Seth Anderson and his sister Jenna fill-in for Babe Caylor. Seth Anderson is no stranger to QTalk Arizona, having started the "What The Hell Is Going On In Arizona?" show last year. We talk about a few stories in the news this week: DADT repeal proceeding smoothly despite "sky will fall" predictions, Israel's new law targeting super-skinny models, NOM's war on Starbucks and the student from Georgia who was removed from being student body president for pushing for a more gay-inclusive prom, among others. Thanks to our new sponsor: The Tan United Splash Bash at the Radisson City Center. It's the big gay pool party that is a kick-off to the entire Pride Weekend! Friday April 20th from Noon-8pm. There's Irish and green all around town today and throughout the weekend as that wonderful culture's history is celebrated. On this particular episode, Joe and Babe do a little catching up as Joe was up in Las Vegas last weekend (his first time away from the studio), taking a little bit about current events going on such as the anti-bullying bill recently killed in the Arizona legislature, the "I'm a moron" image spreading on Facebook and more discussion on news going on around town and elsewhere. Joe and Babe #68: This week, it’s Babe and Clayton! | Just who knows what goes on when Joe decides to go on vacation? You've gotta listen to this episode to find out! Clayton McKee, voice of the 'sounders' on QTalk Arizona and no stranger to radio, fills-in for Joe as he was up in Vegas for the weekend getting some much needed R & R. Babe and Clayton chat about some of the news this week and trends going on around Facebook, including the 'Chick-fil-a' religion hoax. Other tid bits from the show: What to do on St. Patrick's Day, which Smurf of Dwarf would you be, A Bit of Babe: Audre Lorde Important changes coming up starting Saturday 3/17: Our 'live' call-in shows will be using our own Shoutcast streaming service and a new online chat system, both of which will be available right on the QTalk Arizona and QTalk America websites. Joe and Babe #67: Arizona Women in Tune | This week we chat with Arizona Women in Tune about their on-key organization and upcoming Spring concert. Artistic Director Lucik Aprahamian and Executive Director Terry Gunn join us in-studio to talk about the state's only 'mostly lesbian' choir. 'Mostly lesbian?', you ask? Well, they are very inclusive and you don't have to be LGBT-identified or even female identified to join--although we're sure they'd like it that way. They share with us about the history of the organization and how they have evolved through the years, but still maintain a great many members who stay involved and love what they do. We don't, sadly, get a live performance -- but then again, we didn't ask for one. Also, we discuss a little bit of the recent local news surrounding two lesbians who were asked to leave the District restaurant in downtown Phoenix. It's pretty early to know precisely what transpired and what the Sheraton will do to alleviate the tension that this has caused in the community, so we suggest that you find out the facts and watch things develop over the coming days and weeks. Plus, Clayton McKee (from behind the board), chimes in with us on the recent spectacular (but a bit long) Pride Pageant last weekend. On the next Joe and Babe, Joe will actually be absent -- how is this possible??? Joe's taking a vacation! Clayton McKee joins Babe next week for "The Babe and Clayton Show" along with a surprise guest. And don't forget, join us at Ticoz on March 21 for our 1st ever Listener Meetup! | 3/3/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Joe and Babe #66: Host a Dinner, Save a Life. It’s time for SAVORlife! | It's that time of year again! We've got Kit Kloeckl in the studio to talk about Aunt Rita's Foundation and their spring fundraiser called SAVORlife. The concept is simple: invite your friends over for dinner (or out to eat), have them make a donation to Aunt Rita's and then you attend the fabulous SAVORlife Soiree at the end of March! Plus, we talk a bit about the news and current events this week, and give our picks for the Oscars! Of course, there's usually more to it than that. Kit Kloeckl is the Executive Director of Aunt Rita's Foundation and talks about what the foundation actually does, how he decided to get involved several years ago and a bit of his own personal story. New this year with SAVORlife is a contest (it involves getting someone new on-board to do a dinner) where you can win an iPad! And, speaking of dinner, Kit encourages everyone to be creative. Don't limit yourself to just dinner, or specifically a meal. Think outside the box and have fun with it! Aunt Rita's Foundation raises funds throughout the year for 20 local HIV/AIDS service organizations and also produces AIDS Walk Phoenix in the Fall. Did we mention that we're doing our own 'dinner' to fundraise for Aunt Rita's and the SAVORlife event? Come to our first-ever Listener Meetup on March 21 at Ticoz! Joe and Babe #65: Andrew Jordan is Opening Doors in Arizona | Are you tired of the bar scene? What about the Internet? Is your gay-dar on the fritz and you can't locate anybody at the local supermarket? Well, as it turns out, there IS an alternative! Andrew J. Shainker, or Andrew Jordan, or A.J., or whatever the heck his name is -- joins Joe and Babe to talk about Open Doors AZ, a new social organization for LGBT people that he created in late 2010. Why did he do it? See above reasons ;-) Open Doors AZ is a social activity group for gay men and women who live in Arizona. Every week Open Doors AZ gets together to eat, play and socialize. Open Doors AZ prides itself on diversity; membership is all inclusive, making it a great way to meet new people. join us as we ask AJ how the group got started and what the road has been like nurturing a social group like this into existence and growing it. Plus, we talk a bit about Whitney Houston's passing, the marriage equality news turns to New Jersey this week and Babe talks a bit about Black History Month. Joe and Babe #64: The Road to Phoenix Pride Royalty | It's been nearly a year since Olivia Gardens and Freddy Prinze Charming became Miss and Mister Phoenix Gay Pride 2011. It's been a long journey and an eventful year of fundraising and reaching out to the community, both in Phoenix and across the State. Both Olivia and Freddy share their stories from the year and talk about the upcoming Pageant that will determine the Pride Royalty for 2012. They also talk about how they got into doing drag and performance in the first place. After a very busy year, they're both looking forward to passing the baton and stepping down from their roles. In the news this week: Proposition 8 was ruled unconstitutional by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, The Susan G. Komen Foundation reverses its controversial decision and there's been the big JCPenney / Ellen story in the news. We all give our take on these issues and even our audience chimes in. Joe and Babe #63: Lots of C.A.R.E. and Film Festival Fun in Southern Arizona | It's our "Southern Arizona Fried Chicken Special!!" This week, we're talking all about what's going on south of Phoenix. We're joined in-studio by Christopher Jay Hall, interim President of Central Arizona Rainbow Eduction (C.A.R.E.) and via phone by Joe Sprague, Director of the Out in the Desert LGBT Film Festival. From Casa Grande to Tucson, we're talking to these great individuals who are making a difference in their local communities and we're learning about their upcoming events! Christopher Jay Hall worked to start the March for Equality in Casa Grande, which has evolved into a larger event including a festival with exhibitors and entertainment. How did it get started? There was a need, of course! In 2006, he wanted to start a gay-straight alliance at his high school, and things just 'blossomed from there.' C.A.R.E. is now an organization that serves the LGBTQ community in the rural areas of Central Arizona. The upcoming 4th Annual March for Equality takes place on Saturday, March 31 from Noon to 4pm at Peart Park in Casa Grande. The actual March itself will take place at 10am. Both events are free admission are open to all-ages. Joe Sprague hails originally from Chicago and was involved in many years of LGBT film festivals before he moved to Tucson. And now, he's bringing his talents to The Old Pueblo and has created one of the largest (by number of films) LGBT film festivals in the entire country! A total of 165 films will be shown at the Out in the Desert Film Festival at several locations in Tucson during the weekends of February 17-19 and February 24-26. Over 40 VIPs from the films will be in Tucson to be a part of the festival. It is shaping up to be an incredible festival and we're excited that Tucson gets to take this giant leap into LGBT film festival history! Joe and Babe #62: Get Fresh with one n ten (1n10) | Joe and Babe go way back, and one n ten (1n10) had brought us together originally. We're proud to be supporters of one n ten as it charges forward to continue its awesome and much-needed work to empower today's LGBTQ youth in metropolitan Phoenix. Jeremy Schachter joins us today to talk about the upcoming one n ten Fresh Brunch at The Phoenician on Sunday, February 26th. He's the chair of the Brunch and he's got the full scoop on the event. He's on a mission to raise $100,000 for the organization through the Brunch, and he wants you to help him by buying tickets! We also talk about one n ten as an organization, where it's been and where it's going. Did you know that the YEP House (Youth Empowerment Project) is shortly moving to a brand-new location? And that one n ten might even be opening a school? How cool is that?! We're super-excited to see the great changes that continue at one n ten, and look forward to the future. We were saddened by the recent teen suicide in Tennessee, and horrified by the statements made by Tennessee lawmakers afterward. It is just irresponsible for public figures to make statements such that "gays are not healthy human beings" or that "only gay men can get HIV". In these times, the work that one n ten does is more important than ever. Get tickets for the one n ten Fresh Brunch for yourself and your friends, or you can even sponsor a one n ten youth to attend the Brunch! Joe and Babe #61: A New You in 2012! | It's time for a whole new you! We were expecting to have Chris from Tangible Tanning and Fitness, but we have to fly solo so we improvise! What is it about fitness as a new year's resolution? And why do we often fail at accomplishing what we want with our fitness routines? Could you be trying to over-do it? Sometimes we set our goals too high. But perhaps it's about feeling comfortable with the body that we're already in. And speaking of fitness, we talk about the Two gay swimmers are among oldest Olympic trial qualifiers ever ... We also reflect on the tragedy from this past week that left two of our community, Savannah Stevens and Wes Eichsteadt, severely injured after an attack. Our thoughts are with them as they recover. Joe and Babe #60: 1VCC Men’s Discussion Group, another gay teen suicide and Martin Luther King Day | Larry Pfeiffer joins us from the Men's Discussion Group at One Voice Community Center. One question that's been burning in our minds: just what do you discuss at a Men's Discussion Group? Well, yes, there are some topics that apparently are off-limits, but it's a very popular group on Monday nights at the Center and just keeps on getting better. This week, we lost another gay teen to suicide. Eric James Borges from California took his life this week after struggling with his coming out process and his family's non-acceptance of him. What's terribly sad about this is that he had a wonderful community full of support around him, and he even made an "It Gets Better" video just about a month ago. Anyone struggling with suicidal thoughts and have no one to turn to for help, please call The Trevor Project at 866-488-7386. One of our very own, local GLSEN co-chair and ASU professor Madelaine Adelman, was honored on Friday with the Living the Dream Award at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Awards Breakfast. It's great to see the award go to someone who is doing great work to advance civil rights through non-violence. Joe and Babe #59: Downtown Phoenix History with “Dr. Anderson” | We're baaaaaack!! We're super-excited to be back on the Internet airwaves in 2012! Our first guest of the year is no stranger to QTalk Arizona, he's none other than J. Seth Anderson who started our "What The Hell Is Going On In Arizona?" podcast! Seth has lived in the Valley for many years, but over the past decade has really to come to love downtown Phoenix. He's very actively involved in preserving historic buildings and working to create better ways of using our existing land. In fact, he's so active that he recently co-authored a book on the very subject! The book, aptly named "Downtown Phoenix" is now available and it's a beautiful book with countless wonderfully historic photographs that tell the stories of our downtown. Listen as we talk about Seth's background, what he's up to lately and what he might be doing next! Also, we're giving away tickets to the Street Eats Food Truck Festival on certain LIVE shows this weekend on QTalk Arizona, so stay tuned to know how you can win! You can grab a copy (get a few while you're at it!) of Seth's new book at local retailers, online at Amazon and also at Seth's website. | 1/7/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Joe and Babe #58: Ace Lundon is Calling | We can't believe it's our last show of the year, and we saved a very special guest for last! Ace Lundon hosts the Lundon Calling podcast every week, but that doesn't really tell his story. He's a legend in his own right, and he has a never-ending lifetime of stories to tell. Ace has been in the entertainment industry for decades, a radio host, managing editor of a national gay magazine and an activist for HIV/AIDS and other major issues of our community. He's even said to have psychic abilities! Friends with superstars such as Mae West and Judy Canova, he produced the longest running monthly show in history that entertained the troops who were heading out for the Vietnam War -- over 750,000! Learn the bits and pieces of his life that aren't mentioned anywhere in press releases or on his web site, as we also talk about the changes going on in our world today. He truly is someone who 'done it all' and he has an opinion on just about everything--including using whatever words you need to in writing, and in life. He tells us how he was let go from teaching an advanced writing class in a high school in South Dakota, for talking about "the m**********n of one's mind". He used the term appropriately, but oh boy, the vice principal didn't think so! It was a lot of fun having Ace Lundon on our show, Joe had appeared on his show earlier and it was only appropriate to return the favor! We'll be back on our new day and time in 2012! Join us LIVE at 1pm on Saturdays. Our first guest on January 7th will be QTalk Arizona's very own Seth Anderson. He's a recently-published author and we're going to learn all about him! Seth started the "What The Hell Is Going On In Phoenix" show here on QTalk Arizona. Happy Holidays, be safe and enjoy this most wonderful time of the year. Joe and Babe #57: Gay Relationships @ The Holidays | We've got the 'power couple' Micheal Weakley and Jimmie Munoz with us in-studio to talk about dealing with our relationships at the holiday season. How to deal with families, different traditions and all the parties that you get invited to! Plus, we've got Joseph Gesulio from the GPGLCC to talk about this weekend's Festival of Trees event! Micheal and Jimmie also tell us how they make time for each other, whether it's year-round or at the busy holiday season. Micheal is the Director of Programs for 1n10 and Jimmie is the Project Manager for Phoenix Pride, so they both lead busy lives and are heavily involved with our LGBT community. This too, plays into the dynamics of their relationship and they work with it quite well. All four of us each share our little tips and ideas for making it a wonderful holiday season, whether you're partnered, dating or single. Just be happy with who you are and your life. You never know what's around the corner, so enjoy today for what it is. Micheal also talks about his recent trip to Washington D.C. to work with NASTAD, an organization that works across the country in STD prevention and advocating for better sex education in schools. We touch on Hillary Clinton's historic speech yesterday on LGBT Human Rights around the world. | 12/7/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Joe and Babe #56: World AIDS Day 2011 | Dr. Dina is our special guest as we talk to her about her work as a therapist and counselor in our local community. Plus, we have a great interview with RJ Shannon from the AZ DHS on everything surrounding World AIDS Day. Listen in for events going on and the latest with the HIV and AIDS epidemic. HIV continues to infect new people everyday and the theme for 2011's World AIDS Day is 'Getting to Zero: Zero New HIV Infections. Zero Discrimination. Zero AIDS-Related Deaths.' Is it achievable? You bet! But we must all educate ourselves on the disease and other STDs and work to prevent it. It is an incredibly preventable disease, and you just have to take the time to learn and then be smart about it. Dr. Dina Evan hosts "The Dr. Dina Hour" on QTalk Arizona every Thursday night at 7pm with a LIVE call-in show on topics relating to relationships, depression, boundary issues and just about anything there is when it comes to trying to better connect with one another. It's now the holidays, so give the gift of QTalk Arizona -- tell your friends about your favorite shows here on the network and help us grow! Joe and Babe #55: Donna Rossi, Superwoman! | Donna Rossi is "the hardest working lesbian in local news", at least that was the way she was introduced at last year's Equality Arizona Awards Dinner. We couldn't agree more! But did you know "the rest of the story?" Her career has spanned many areas, from being on the Phoenix Police force to being a television journalist for nearly twenty years. As she says, "what haven't I done yet?" She's currently a news reporter for CBS 5 KPHO, and an Emmy Award-winning one at that! In recent years, she's hosted the Equality Arizona awards dinners and even been the host of Equality Arizona Radio until it went off the air a few years ago. We're very excited to have her in-studio to talk about her amazing life and her advocacy work for our community. We also chat a bit about the latest news from around the world, specifically about the wonderful interview that recently aired with Gabby Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly. Donna shares her personal story and connection with Giffords and how she spent over a week in Tucson following the shooting earlier this year. It's truly moving. And in other news, it's Anti-Bullying Week in the U.K. and American Censorship Day here in this country (well, we don't want it to be!) Make sure to research the copyright-related bills making their way through Congress right now and contact your legislators to make your voice heard on the issue. There won't be a LIVE show next week, but we'll post some great episodes to Facebook for you to listen to from around the QTalk Arizona network. As always, if you've got a comment, question, show topic or anything else -- we'd love to hear from you! Email us or give us a shout at (440) 847-8255! Joe and Babe #52: They Came Out, You Should Too! | Babe is out this week, helping to judge 1n10's Halloween Costume Contest, so Joe's flying solo! But never fear, we've got lots to cover! This week, we're joined by two of the five winners of the Phoenix Pride's 2011 OUTdayPHX Creative Expressions Contest. Pamela Anders and Erin Clawson both had unique entries in the contest and they also share their personal coming out experiences on this show. Other winners Deanna Santarelli, Jason Green and Erin Whitney were not able to join us but we hope to talk with them on an upcoming show. Pamela Anders underwent the transition from male to female in the mid-2000s and recently published her book, "Gypsy Moon", which details the experience of being a truck driver and going through the transition. Erin Clawson recently came out, and this was her first full year attending Phoenix Pride and Rainbows Festival. She loves to express herself through writing, and entered a beautiful poem in the OUTdayPHX contest. Their stories and experiences are moving and unique, and we hope they will inspire you to move forward in your own coming out process. Pamela's book, "Gypsy Moon", is now available through multiple retailers, but the best way to learn more and purchase it is at her website, www.pampurrs.com The Joe and Babe Show features longtime friends Joe Dugandzic and Babe Caylor and features guests from our local community. Joe and Babe Show #51: Kathy Young is Lezzy-Activist-Super-Mom! | Kathy Young is someone who is heavily involved with activism and LGBT rights here in Phoenix and Arizona. But how to juggle being so involved, being a mom, a partner, blogger and a few other things? We get down to the details on this week's show. Even though she's stepped away a bit from HRC recently, she's still the co-chair of at least three committees. Is that really 'stepping away'? She explains :-) Kathy talks about having her kids in school and listening as they get asked various questions by both educators and their classmates. She tries to ensure that the schools are using diversity training in their curriculum, which will benefit everyone. As being so engaged in our schools, she helped form the very first Gay-Straight Alliance in Arizona at Thunderbird High School. Plus, we chat a bit about the recent Occupy Phoenix protest, about actor Zachary Quinto (The New Spock) coming out and Babe reveals she just might be a gay boy on the inside! Be sure to check out Kathy's website and blog at LezzyMom.com for her regular posts and thoughts, plus resources and links. | 10/19/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Joe and Babe Show #50: 100th Podcast Celebration! | It's time to celebrate! Nah, not just that it's National Coming Out Week, but it's QTalk Arizona Week! Our fabulous little podcast network has hit 100 episodes in total across our various shows and it's time to break out the bubbly, take a trip down memory lane and talk to those who inspired us to create this very network! Marc Felion and Fausto Fernós from Feast of Fun join us to talk about how podcasting has changed over the years, and what the future holds this new medium. Marc and Fausto, partners of over 10 years, began Feast of Fun nearly seven years ago and produce five shows a week from Chicago, Illinois. They have won four People's Choice Podcast Awards in the GLBT category and are known around the world. They essentially started the gay podcast revolution in the mid-2000s. We also take some wonderful phone calls from around the country as we talk with former guests and someone who's trying to heal the divide between the generations in his own community. And, of course, since it's National Coming Out Week, Babe and I both talk about our own coming out experiences and we hope that our stories inspire you to continue your own coming out process. Thank you to everyone who has helped to make QTalk Arizona a success thus far. 100 episodes? Now we're shooting for 1000, and we can't wait to get there! Talk to you next week! Joe and Babe Show #49: Tucson Pride and Dario Interview! | It's a super-exciting show as we get the details of all the changes down in 'The Old Pueblo' for Tucson Pride! Karen Bohlender, President of the organization, joins us to talk about the new nighttime parade in Downtown Tucson, the move to Kino Memorial Stadium for the festival and the fabulous parties going on surrounding Tucson 'Pride In The Desert'. If that wasn't enough to draw your attention, we've got the headliner of Tucson Pride, who hails from Tucson originally, Dario! Dario's career got started at a very early age, three--to be exact, when he was singing and entertaining just about anyone who would be his audience. Later on, after competing on such series as "Popstars 2" and "American Idol", he was discovered and his whirlwind career truly began. He is currently on a National Tour, called "The Up Side of Down", promoting his new album by the same name. We ask Dario about his community involvement, what inspires him to create his music and who he truly is as a person. Plus, shout-outs and questions from his fans! QTalk Arizona will be in the Tucson Pride Parade and we encourage everyone to come out and attend this amazing event and the Pink Party afterward. Also, we begin our "Coming Out Stories" campaign for National Coming Out Day and LGBT History Month. We asked for your stories and you responded! We'll be recording more stories at the Tucson Pride Festival and they will also be placed on our shows during October. For more information, visit the Tucson Pride website. OK, well, maybe that's a different Rainbows Festival maybe in some other cooler climate! It's time once again for Rainbows Festival Weekend and we've got the guy who's been running it for ten years: Don Hamill. Listen as Don talks about the inspiration of the Festival, how it has grown and changed and what is in store for the Festival in the future. What's new this year, you might ask? Well, OUTday Phoenix has moved to Sunday at Rainbows Festival. The event, put on by Phoenix Pride, gets a full description as we talk to Jimmie Munoz from our fabulous Pride organization. Plus, just who the heck is Don Hamill, anyways? How is he involved in the community and where did he come from? Outside of that, what's going on in the rest of the world? We voice our gripes on the recent and horrific Facebook re-design, the Netflix split and a brief headline on the soon-to-be-retirement of local drag queen Afeelya Bunz. Rainbows Festival is October 1st and 2nd from 10am to 6pm in Heritage Square Park in Downtown Phoenix. He seems to 'take over the town' anywhere he goes, and with good reason! He's got that amazing voice and the ability to adapt and improv in nearly any situation. You can find Clayton emceeing at many events and community establishments around town. As always, we've got the phone calls and the banter from the chat room on the show. Joe and Babe Show #42: LIVE and EQUAL | Our very first LIVE broadcast on QTalk Arizona marks another first. We're totally thrilled to share the studio with our special guest, Nick Ray, Executive Director of Equality Arizona. Arizona's LGBT lobbying organization has seen some tough times over the past few years, but Nick believes that brighter days are most certainly ahead. Nick was the Executive Director of 1n10 for several years in the 2000s and had major accomplishments along with bringing the visibility of the LGBTQ youth organization to a very high level. He has an incredible amount of energy and a "let's get things done" attitude that should breathe much-needed new life into Equality Arizona. Nick also talks about his personal journey from 'across the pond' to working in New York to eventually landing here in Phoenix. Everywhere he's been, he's effected change, and we're excited to have him at the helm of an organization working for our rights here in Arizona. There are plenty of ways to get involved, whether it's financially or just giving your time to volunteer. It's up to us to join together and make a difference in this State, through Equality Arizona. We also chat about the Marriage Equality Walkers, who just finished their 99-mile journey through the State spreading their positive message of equality and meeting new people and opening hearts and minds. We bring you two interviews from the walkers themselves. 'N Touch has now grown up to be a major player in the GLBT publications in Arizona and we are happy to be partnered with them. Gina calls 'N Touch a very community-driven magazine and that they are always trying to find ways to help out our own community through the magazine and its reach. Joe and Babe Show #38: AIDS Walk Phoenix 2011 | AIDS Walk? In Phoenix? In July? Seriously? OK, so we're a bit early on this, but we have a method to our madness here at The Joe and Babe Show. We wanted to start talking about the AIDS Walk right now because it's time to start fundraising! Get your game on early and you can work to get one of those awards for raising the most money! (We're not sure if there is an award, but it will make you feel great, right?) Kit Kloeckl, Executive Director of Aunt Rita's Foundation -- the organization who puts on the Walk -- joins us to talk about everything surrounding AIDS Walk Phoenix 2011. Also joining us is Dan Galloway, Executive Director for The Agape Network, one of the 19 HIV/AIDS service organizations who benefit from the funds that Aunt Rita's Foundation raises throughout the year. Listen in as we talk about how Aunt Rita's Foundation got started many years ago and its relationship to the agencies that it benefits. Dan from Agape Network explains the mission of his organization and how it provides food boxes to those who are HIV-positive. Plus, there's a lot that you can do to help these two wonderful organizations, through donations and your time -- and we encourage you to get involved! We also discuss a little about what's going on in the HIV world today, such as the pre-exposure drug therapy that is being debated in many circles, it's potential benefits and downsides. Plus, we weigh in on how Obama's doing with GLBT rights -- we think his scorecard is improving. We encourage you to weigh in on all these topics through our social media pages, by emailing us and/or leaving us a voicemail. Just check out all the links at the top right of the page and interact with us! Technical note: we're still working through some sound-level issues as we do some of these shows remotely over Skype. Joe and Babe Show Special: Caleb Laieski takes on Washington! | Caleb Laieski has made headlines locally and nationally by working to pass anti-bullying legislation. Caleb tells his story of the 'spark' that got him started on his journey that would change his life. He started 'pushing back' when he was thirteen (he's now sixteen), starting to report bullying and harassment to the administration at his school, but they and the district were not interested in helping him. After that, he sued with the district with the help of the ACLU. Even though the case was eventually dropped, sexual orientation became protected under the district's policies. This year, Caleb was one of the Grand Marshals in the Phoenix Pride Parade and has definitely become a known figure in our local community, as well as nationally. He was invited by the White House to attend the nation's first-ever Anti-Bullying Conference and made his first trip to Washington to attend the Conference earlier this year. He has been back to Washington several times since, meeting with members of Congress, talking to President Obama at the Reception Observing LGBT Pride Month and learning about our country's political system. Listen as Caleb talks about how his life has changed and what other LGBT youth can do to make a difference in their own lives, schools and communities -- just like Caleb has done. We hope that many LGBT youth will be listening to this show as it's important to get Caleb's message out to as many people as possible. For youth needing help coming out and dealing with being LGBT, you can seek out the help of the 1n10 youth program here in the Valley, PFLAG is also a great organization, and,, if you are having suicidal thoughts, contact The Trevor Project. Also, one last thing, we are supporting AIDS Walk Phoenix once again and we want our listeners to join our team! We're challenging our listeners to help us out-fundraise all the other teams this year! Join our team and get more information at this link. | 7/11/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Joe and Babe Show #35: Reflecting on Pride Month | This week, we are reflecting on Pride -- in general. Have we strayed too far from the origins of Gay Pride? Should we be educating ourselves along with the massive festivals and parties that represent International Pride Month? This idea was brought up by 'N Touch News Magazine and we're adding our voices to it. We want your feedback, chime in and we'll talk about it on the next show -- you know how to get a hold of us! :) Plus, we're introducing our segments on Community Strong: Keeping the Rainbow Alive. This is a new PR campaign created by 1n10 and Phoenix Pride to highlight the various organizations in our community that do great works throughout the year, but sometimes are forgotten by the community at large. This week, we're highlighting Phoenix Pride and 1n10, two of the eight organizations featured in this first round of Community Strong information campaigns. Be safe out there this Independence Day Weekend, leave us a voicemail with your thoughts on the show and we'll talk to you next time! --Joe and Babe :) | 6/29/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Joe and Babe Show #34: Nerds Rule! | This week, Joe talks to Ally Shore, a.k.a. 'The Nerdchick' from YouTube. She 'came out' a year ago as an official 'nerd' we ran into her online during Phoenix Comicon. We talk about how her 'night job' (YouTube) is just a sliver of what her 'day job' is -- which, of course, is event production, media work and marketing -- that's how she got her mad video skills! She says that her videos only have '10s' of viewers, but we think it's probably way more than that! We talk about being nerdy in general and how it is now pretty pervasive among society. And, does being a nerd trump being gay? Listen for that answer and a whole lot more! Ally admits that she's made some pretty silly and ridiculous videos, but we think this rainbow cat video is probably the most ridiculous thing on YouTube! Check out Ally's YouTube channel and also browse thru the website for her production company -- A. Shore Thing. Need to plan a large event? Call her up! | 6/22/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

We're talking a bit about the logistics of putting on the festival, how it has grown since the first one was held in 1996 and the fantastic line-up of entertainment this year -- including Taylor Dane and comedian Suzanne Westenhoefoer. We also chat about what's new for the festival this year, plus the impact that the Pride festival has on Flagstaff itself. Many new local sponsors and vendors have joined the Festival this year and Flagstaff Pride is glad to see how the community and its allies are coming out to support Pride in Flagstaff. Joe and Babe Show #31: Two Spirits | Fred Martinez explained to his family that he didn’t want to have to choose between being a boy or a girl–that he wanted to be both. Fred self-identified as a gay male and commonly used the name Fred, as well as “F.C.” He also expressed a wonderfully feminine aspect of his truest self in the way he dressed and presented himself, and sometimes wanted to be called Beyoncé, in honor of his favorite singer. Listen as Joe and Seth talk to filmmaker Lydia Nibley who produced the moving film, "Two Spirits", that details the life and the murder of Fred Martinez. Fred was known as a 'nádleehí' -- a spiritual, sexual, and gender identity that is celebrated in traditional Navajo culture. "Two Spirits" has won numerous awards at various film festivals around the world. The film can be seen nationally on Tuesday, June 14th (check local listings for airtime) and will also be shown in Downtown Phoenix at Civic Space Park at 5:30pm on Saturday, June 11th. For more information on the film, to watch the trailer and to order your own copy on DVD, visit the Two Spirits website. New shows on the QTalk Arizona Network coming up: Cars and Sports! Speaking of getting out of the heat: are you going to Flagstaff Pride? Taylor Dane is headlining! Focus on Phoenix Comicon this weekend, are you going?? We've locked down an interview with the wonderful and out actor of both Broadway and film fame, George Takei -- most famous for playing Hikaru Sulu on Star Trek. The interview will be up sometime next week depending on scheduling. This week we're talking to Eric Radwanski, Holistic Wellness and Consciousness Practitioner. Eric tries to help people understand themselves a bit better, whether it's through life coaching, hypnotherapy or something else in his repertoire. We're talking about the recent killing of Osama Bin Laden and how it is providing some healing to the victims' families of 9/11 and other attacks that Al Qaeda had launched under Bin Laden's command. Does it really help them, and the rest of us, move forward? Is it right to be happy when someone dies? We try to answer those questions. And what about our own community? What if all the right-wing conservatives just were wiped off the map? Would we really truly move forward? How would it work? Would we unite as a community or would there still be some infighting going on? It's a truly intriguing show that will definitely make you think. And we encourage you to get in touch with Eric if you might be in need a of a little life-coaching or help in steering your 'personal vehicle' on this road of life.
