76: (60 min) Rock - Rock Redux - BPM Range 111-180 | The 76th episode celebrates the show's 5th anniversary. It's all rock. BPM range: 111-180. To celebrate the five year anniversary of the JTip, I've decided to present a replay of some of the great rock tunes from past episodes. And I'm offering up a whole hour of beat-centric running, divided in half into 2 sequenced sessions. The first maxes out at a comfortable run at 171 BPM, and the second at a more challenging, marathon-runner range of 180 BPM. It was fun reminiscing and reviewing my collection of 5 years of great indie music. My thanks goes all the artists who have made their music available for our enjoyment throughout the years. I'm also grateful to Cyber PR, Music Alley, the IODA, and the independent promoters who have helped to bring the artists to our attention. Finally, I wish to thank Dreamline, Troy Lee Warden, and the other fine artists who have contributed to the intros for the show and more thanks to Heather for her delightful voice-over intro. The Roast Beef Curtains Reggae and Rock are probably the best genres for beat matched workouts. Blends of the 2 genres are emerging and that's to our benefit. The beat is unmistakable and motivating. I've got a great mix that features reggae, rock and some mashing of the two. Several JTIP fans have mentioned that they like the interval running episodes, so here's another one. BPMs of 150s to 160s will be interspersed with speed bursts of short second segments of "Barbarella" at 184 by Loomis and the Lust. Their entire track will also appear at the end of this episode. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunes Indie Podcast or get the MP3. Welcome back to the new age. My first new age show was episode #31 and was called Think Positive. It was so well received that I decided to dedicate another episode to new age music. So here's eleven tunes by eleven different artists comprising a 45 minute workout session. It's divided into the typical JTIP segments, a 30 minute sequenced regular running session followed by a 15 minute sequenced sprint section that maxes out at 184 BPM for 3 minutes. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunes Indie Podcast or get the MP3. Mo McMorrow This month, serendipity reigns. While I was attending a Hedda Layne gig at the Belmont in Austin, Texas, Mo McMorrow was sitting at my table. It didn't take long to find out that she's a singer songwriter and well known on the Austin scene. I checked her tunes out on MySpace. They turned out to be great music by an impressive artist, and a perfect beat-matching runset. So here's a sequenced set of Mo's tunes with a taste of my other favorite Austin artists, Hedda Layne and Brett Low. This is another interval running session. After some warming up and easy running, Mo's fast tune, God Knows, will provide the interval 193 BPM, 90 second speed bursts, alternating with fast walks and slow jogs. A full length, uninterrupted version appears at the end of the show. If you're not in shape for interval workouts, run these segments at a slower pace or shorten your stride. The most important thing is to run safe. Check out the track details, purchase options, and more info on this episode's podcast page at jogtunes.com. As always, I welcome your comments. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunes Indie Podcast or get the MP3. This episode breaks with my short and sweet midmonth format by presenting another classic JTIP 2 segment session. This is 28 minutes of sequenced BPM running followed by a 17 min sprint section. I've got 2 veteran JogTunes artists and 5 new groups. There's great rock and reggae, and loads of awesome electronica. The sprint session maxes out at 182 BPM. If you're not used to beat-matching that tempo, slow your pace or shorten your stride. If you have a pulse monitor, this is a good tim to use it. The main thing is to run safe. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunes Indie Podcast or get the MP3. I recently received an email from a listener/runner who enjoyed working out to my first fartlek show (Episode #21). Coincidentally I was planning to do another one and here it is, Fartlek Part II. The rest of the title, "Be Free", refers to the prominence of tunes about freedom in various forms. There's a leaning towards rock and reggae and social commentary as well. This episode also features four tunes by Delmar Brown from New York city along with an impressive array of other artists, all from the IODA's promonet. Please see the episode's show notes for purchase options, artists' websites and promonet pages, and other details. Two tracks, one by Delmar and another by Keno, provide the speed bursts for the interval segments. One's at 180 BPM and the other at 186. Because the segments are 45-60 seconds long, I've included both tracks in their entirety at the end of the show. As always, I welcome your comments. It's mostly easy going jogging and running with a long interval run at 172 BPM. If you're not used to that speed, run it for 30 seconds then slow your pace or shorten your stride. When I first heard Louinel Jean's new song, "Power of Love", I immediately started planning this episode. It's a perfect theme for the end of a tumultuous decade as it sets the tone for what I'm sure we all hope will be a smoother 10 years aided by the power of love. All of the tunes are about love, and range in BPMs from walking paces to tempos for all out running. Here's the music video version of Louinel's song, featuring Sushane Holmes: As this is my third anniversary show, I reminisce by bringing back some old tunes as well as introduce some new ones. I found most of the tunes on Music Alley, and for that I'm grateful to Mevio and their fine service to music podcasting. It's a 30 minute session that's fairly easy going with a max BPM of 174 and plenty of running in the 160s. Besides Ariel's List, I added another special treat as an outro. Just for fun, I thought I'd look for tunes for this episode that have the words "run" or "running" in the title. I searched Mevio's Music Alley and found more than enough tracks for the show. One tune is actually called "Run to the Music." What could be more pertinent to my show? The only non-Mevio tune is by Lady Southpaw. She emailed me about her passion for running and about her music, which is all about running, literally. She wrote and sings "Why I Run", which is the sprint tune for this episode and runs at 180 BPM. You can find all the artists, their websites, and purchase options at _____________. I've mixed four AudioFuel tracks with the usual JTIP fare to provide refreshingly new introductions to new tempo segments. I hope you enjoy it. If you like what you hear, come on over to the AudioFuel page of my website, jogtunes.com, where you'll find all of their offerings and purchase links. 38: (30 Min) - Reggae Part II - Louinel Jean | The 38th episode of the The JogTunes Indie Podcast is up for running, cycling, and other BPM exercising. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunes Indie Podcast or get the MP3. A year and 1/2 ago I published my first predominently reggae episode and it ranked high on my download stats. Reggae is just plain easy and fun to run to. On this show, not only do I bring reggae to the forefront again but I feature an outstanding musician, composer, producer, and humanitarian, Louinel Jean. Jean is a Haitian who moved to Jamaica in 1998. A man of deep compassion, Jean composes and performs music that not only entertains but inspires and informs. He calls for us to be our best and to be sensitive to the hardship of others, especially children. Other tunes not included in this show keenly increase our awareness oif injustice. Check out two outstanding works on this theme: Darfur Outcry on Garageband.com and Justice on iTunes. Jean first graced my show on episode #23 and then again on #33 with 3 of his most popular works. On this episode I replay these tunes along with 2 newer Louinel Jean tracks along with 4 other artists in the reggae and dub traditions. Louinel Jean's Bio Here's the artist list: Louinel Jean (5 songs) Dubmatix (A remix of a John Brown's Body tune) Bitty McLean Scott Turchin Dubtrak (Intro and Outro) As always, I advise runners to be careful not to exceed your maximum heart rate, especially on the faster tunes. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunes Indie Podcast or get the MP3. Rock has many sides. Examples of subgenres include pop rock, indie rock, alternative, and metal. In this episode I play tunes from the pop, alternative, Latin sides of rock as well as straight-ahead rock. You may not quite agree with the subgenre I assign to a tune, but, what the heck, they're all fun to run to. Here's the breakdown: From New York * Robot Disaster - BPM of 141 * A Band Called Quinn - 121 * The Krayolas - 181 * Le Bataillon Des Fous - 155 * Latin Soul Syndicate - 144 * Lacuna Coil - 144 * Loomis and the Lust - 160 * Funny Money - 175 * Officer Roseland - 157 * The Brew - 163, 110 * Revolution 74 - 125, 147 As always, I advise runners to be careful not to exceed your maximum heart rate, especially on the faster tunes. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunes Indie Podcast or get the MP3. This is the first of the new, shorter, mid-month episodes of the JTIP. I returned to Ariel's Cyber PR to find this show's fine artists. Three come from New York and two from Canada. From New York * Brad Hammonds - BPM of 123 * Jennings - 155, 157, 172 * Planetary Nights - 155 From Canada * Trina Elle - BPM of 174 * Dala - 125, 147 The Intro and Outro is by Yamasaki from the UK. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunes Indie Podcast or get the MP3. Two years ago, on episode #5 I featured mostly woman singers. Now it's the men's turn; well, mostly men. The exception is MAMMÚT from iceland. The genres are mixed with a bit of a lean toward alternative. Some of the lyrics are quite extraordinary. I welcome your opinions about the theme and tune mix. Please send them to comments at jogtunes.com or post them on my Twitter or Facebook pages. We return to the 30 + 15 minute format with a 30 minute sequenced run followed by a sprint segment that peaks at 184 with a tune by Jimmy Mancus. 34 (40 Minutes) - One Range - 160s | The 34th episode of the The JogTunes Indie Podcast is up for running, cycling, and other BPM exercising. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunes Indie Podcast or get the MP3. Exactly one year ago, on episode #22, all of the tunes I played were in the limited BPM range of the 150s. I recently received a compliment about that show from Michael on the JogTunes Facebook fan page. That prompted me to produce another single BPM range show. I chose the 160s because I believe most runners find it a comfortable range for working out. Some people may consider adding this episode to the 150s episode to create a very pleasant 80 minute, extended session. I welcome feedback about single range episodes and the concept of daisy chaining them. Please send them to comments at jogtunes.com or to my Twitter or facebook pages. Here are the artists, their locations, and the resources I consulted to find them: By Personal Communication * Louinel Jean - Jamaica - BPM of 163 * Rob Szabo - Ontario, Canada - 160 From CyberPR * Jessie Murphy In the Woods - New York - BPM of 169 * Nick Dougherty - Los Angeles - 168 * Trey Green - Boston - 166 and 168 From the Independent Online Distribution Alliance's Promonet * Eastern Sun and John Kelley - Venice, California - BPM 118 * Dengue Fever - Los Angeles - 162 From Mevio's Music Alley * Yamasaki - The UK - BPM 115 From the Rock and Roll Report Podcast * White Witch Canyon - East Bay, California - BPM 166 From the DigiVegas Podcast * Matt Parad - New York City - BPM 161 Please feel free to send comments about this and other episodes or about BPM running to comments at jogtunes.com, post them on our JogTunes.com Facebook fan page, or send me a tweet. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunes Indie Podcast or get the MP3. Like many music podcasters, we get email solicitations and notices about new indie music from artists and promoters. When serendipity comes into play, the result is some great finds of indie tunes that are perfect for my niche BPM running music show. This episode presents a diverse genre mix of songs all discovered via international email correspondence. So you see, promoters and artists, it's worth the email effort. Here's breakdown of the artists, their locations, and the BPMs of their tunes: * Modern Caveman - Sweden - BPMs of 148 and 183 * War Tapes - Los Angeles - 168 * Cavashawn - Chicago - 173 * Renegade Alien - Florida - 120 * Greg X. Volzy Nashville - 153 * Alka - New Jersey - 123 * Trash Fashion - U.K. - 155 * Robot Disaster - U.K - 141 * A Band Called Quinn - U.K. - 161 * Loinel Jean/Jproject - Jamaica - 157 Please feel free to send comments about this and other episodes or about BPM running to comments at jogtunes.com, post them on our JogTunes.com facebook fan page, or send me a tweet. 31 (45 Minutes) - Think Positive | The 31th episode of the The JogTunes Indie Podcast is up for running, cycling, and other BPM exercising. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunes Indie Podcast or get the MP3. This is the first episode of the JTIP that features New Age music. I also introduce to the BPM running world the music of Faith Rivera. I first heard Faith sing live in California several weeks ago. Her warmth and energy are infectious and the inspiration for this New Age show. She sings three tunes in this episode and is joined by six other artists whom I found on the Podsafe Music Network and IODA's Promonet. Here's the breakdown: The intro selected specifically for the New Age theme of this episode is by a veteran performer on the JTIP: Momo-J. Featured artist: Faith Rivera - BPMs 122, 141, 170 From the Podsafe Music Network: * Al Phlipp and the Woo Team (return performance) - BPM 178 * Chalice and Blade (formerly Parnassus) - BPM 183 From the IODA's Promonet: * Pan Electric & Ishq - BPM 158 * Aurah - BPM 159 * Floex - BPM 129 - Other link to Floex. * Portofino Lounge - BPM 161 - Artist link is to IODA page As always, I welcome your comments. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunes Indie Podcast or get the MP3. This is the first episode of my show that features songs by only one artist. Who better to play for a full hour of running than the consummate singer/songwriter, keyboardist, music podcaster/blogger, internet geek, and trailblazing music entrepreneur, Matthew Ebel? Even a brief look at his website, matthewebel.com, will reveal Matthew's state-of-the-art approach to getting his music and personality out there. Even more impressive is his great music and there's plenty that's available for podcasters. I've selected Matthew's most runnable tracks for this show. I think you'll love matching your pace to this one. I know I did. Here's the line-up of Matthew's tunes and their BPMs in the order played: A Cautionary Tail (Radio Edit) - 129 This Too Shall Pass - Live - 148 Someone's Out There - 156 Latté Days & Porter Nights - Live - 172 Lost On Block Island - 151 Sally Went Down - 140 Downtown - 154 Wasting My Time - 171 Drive Away - Live - 180 Every Color - 140 I Know You're There - 100 I welcome your comments about the single artist theme of this show. 29 (1 hr) - Mostly Jazz: Smooth, Hot, Cool, and Classic | The 29th episode of the The JogTunes Indie Podcast is up for running, cycling, and other BPM exercising. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to The JogTunes Indie Podcast in iTunes or get the MP3 from JogTunes.com. As a jazz drummer, I must admit that I'm partial to the genre. This episode is the second show on which jazz is the predominant genre. It's virtually all jazz, smooth, hot, cool, and classic. Searching jazz tunes for those with workout tempos takes a bit more time. Many tracks lack strong beat definition and many are quite long in duration. I admit that I wound up including some long tunes which is a departure from the usual 3 to 5 minute lengths but I think I found some tunes with fairly well defined beats. Some syncopation here and there may be a diversion but most of the time the beats are clear. Most of the tunes are from my usual sources: the Independent Online Distributions Alliance's Promonet and the Podsafe Music Network. I'm grateful to them along with UK's Green Dragon Media and Sweden's UNA Promotion. Here's the artist line-up: From UNA Promotion: * Magdalena Konefal - BPM 163 From Green Dragon Media: * mamacoca - BPM 107 * Will 2 Power - BPM 137 * Digital - BPM 176 From the Podsafe Music Network: * Doug Ferony - BPM 186 * Jeso - BPM 141, 157 * B. D. Lenz - BPM 144 From the IODA's Promonet: * Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band - BPM 173 * Jamie Cullum - BPM 160 * The Groovematist - BPM 171 As always, I welcome your comments. Please send them to comments at jogtunes.com or post them on our JogTunes.com facebook fan page. I'm particularly interested in knowing whether the longer tracks worked for you during your workouts. 28 (1 hr) - The 4 R's: Rock, Reggae, Rap, and R & B | The 28th episode of the The JogTunes Indie Podcast is up for running, cycling, and other BPM exercising. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunes Indie Podcast in iTunes or get the MP3 from JogTunes.com. On this 2nd anniversary edition of the JTIP, I feature indie tunes from the 4 R's: Rock, Reggae, Rap, and R & B. As I did on the first anniversary episode, I've brought back some our veteran artists. I then went to the Independent Online Distributions Alliance's Promonet and the Podsafe Music Network to find music from the 4 R's. I found so many great tracks that I compiled them into a 1 hour show. It's divided into 2 convenient 30-minute segments, each with a peak pace in the 180s, divided by a relative slower cool down R & B tune at 142 BPM by Jump Back Jake. I also consulted a veteran source of fine indie bands. That's Paulie Podcaster and his show, The DigiVegas Podcast. Here are the artists: From The DigiVegas Podcast: * Woodfish - BPM 178 The returning artists: * The Alice Project - BPM 130 * Bitter:Sweet - BPM 160 * Justin Hopkins and the Guilt - BPM 150 From the Podsafe Music Network: * In This Moment - BPM 183 * Ashanti - BPM 112 * Dirty Heads - BPM 159, 174 From the IODA's Promonet: * Dozer - BPM 178 * The Itals - BPM 168 * Stevie Culture - BPM 161 * Ky-Mani Marley - BPM 158 * Ivana Santilli - BPM 159 * Jump Back Jake - BPM 142 * Foreign Legion - BPM 181 As always, I'd love to get your comments. 26 (50 Minutes) - Old, New, Borrowed, Blue | The 26th episode of the The JogTunes Indie Podcast is up for running, cycling, and other BPM exercising. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunes Indie Podcast or get the MP3. Old, new, borrowed, blue. It's a familiar word sequence that usually refers to things having to do with marriage. I borrowed it to summarize the tunes on this episode. "Old" and "new" refer to returning artists performing tunes I haven't yet played and artists I haven't yet played. "Borrowed?" Well it's a stretch but I'm referring to the tune by Nine Inch Nails that I kind of borrowed for podplay. Actually, you probably know that NIN made their latest album free for all of us. I couldn't wait to play the famous label band on a J-TIP episode. "Blue" is pretty obvious. I've got 2 R & B tunes on the show. One is smooth, the other is classic blues. Both are fun runs. This is a 50 minute workout session with the usual regular run session followed by the 15 minute sprint segment. Here are the artists: "Old" (Returning Artists): * Santa Marias * Two Loons for Tea * The Alice Project * Common Ground * Momo-J "New": * The Bromptons * Revolution 74 * Trash Fashion "Borrowed" and "New": * Nine Inch Nails "Blue" and "New": * Andre Delano * Lil” Ed and The Blues Imperials As always, I'd love to get your comments. JTIP #24 2008.08.30 (45 Minutes) - All That Pop | The 24th episode of the The JogTunes Indie Podcast is up for running, cycling, and other BPM exercising. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunes Indie Podcast or get the MP3. This episode goes "Pop"! You may not agree that every tune is of the pop genre, but then who ever said that assigning genres is a no brainer. For this show I picked tunes that are designated "pop" by the sources of the tunes, i.e. by the Podsafe Music Network and IODA's promonet. On the PMN I found: * 3 Blind Mice * A Band Called Quinn * Common Ground * Curiosity Shop On IODA's promonet, I came across: * Hot Little Hands * Les Philippes * Jo De La Rosa * Tyler Hilton * Tommy Tutone * elodioO The outro is by Brett Low. The format is our usual 30 minute workout followed by a sprint session featuring Jo De La Rosa's tune "U Can't Control Me" at 184 BPM. Tell us what you think about our "Pop" show. Please send your comments to comments at jogtunes.com. At JogTunes.com, you'll find purchase links to all of the tunes from all of our podcast episodes as well as BPM rated workout music from over 1000 label and indie artists. Your support is, of course, always welcome. Please see the support section of jogtunes.com and the store page for details. Meanwhile, thanks for working out with me, and enjoy the music. JTIP #23 2008.07.30 (45 Minutes) - A World Goes Round | The 23nd episode of the The JogTunes Indie Podcast is up for running, cycling, and other BPM exercising. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunes Indie Podcast or get the MP3. You can subscribe to it directly on iTunes. On this show I'm bringing something old and something new to the J-TIP. "The old" is a return back to our usual format of two segments: the first is 30 minutes with warm-up, full workout, and cool-down sessions, and the second is a 15 minute sprint segment that peaks with a 5 minute track running at 184 BPM and winds down with a walk home. "The new" is the dominant genre: world. For the sake of this episode, world includes music from different countries that reflect the native music of those countries as well as tunes with distinct ethnic flavors that are produced in non-native countries. From Brazil: Seu Jorge. From Portugal: Sara Tavares. From Morocco (now in the Netherlands): Kamal Hors. From Barcelona, Spain: Cineplexx. From Jamaica, Greater Antilles: Louinel Jean/Jproject. From South Africa: African Cream Kids. From Tennesee: Al Phlipp and The Woo Team. From Portland, Oregon: Dykeritz. From Austin, Texas: Hedda Layne and Brett Low. From Tokyo: Nasca. As always, I advise runners to be careful not to exceed their maximum heart rate, especially on the sprint tune. I welcome feedback about the new genre and other input. Please send your comments to comments at jogtunes.com. At JogTunes.com, you'll find show notes and purchase links to all of the tunes from all of our podcast episodes as well as BPM rated workout music from over 1000 label and indie artists. JTIP #21 2008.05.30 (45 Minutes) - The Swedes Call It Fartlek | The 21th episode of the The JogTunes Indie Podcast is up for running, cycling, and other BPM exercising. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunes Indie Podcast or get the MP3. You can subscribe to it directly in iTunes. With this 45 minute episode, I introduce the concept of fartlek training. A Swedish word, because the idea was originated by a Swedish coach, Gösta Holmér, fartlek is a form of interval training where workout paces are varied in an informal manner. It frequently involves short bursts of speed inserted between more relaxed paces. Most fartlek training sessions are determined by runners or their coaches. While this podcast episode obviously presents a fixed sequence, listeners are invited to go to jogtunes.com to create their own music-paced fartlek sessions from label and indie music in our Tunes List. Casual runners are cautioned to wear a pulse monitor for this workout and to not exceed 60% of your maximum heart rate. It you have any doubts about your ability to tolerate rapid paces, please work out at slower paces during the speed bursts. The featured group in this show is Bell Hollow from New York. They provide 3 tunes at BPMs of 121, 130, and 142. The Autumns make an encore appearance with "Glass Jaw" at 156. The other artists in this show are: * Gravel * Dive Index * Idiots! * Pure Reason Revolution * Metro Station * More Human Than Human The 190 BPM speed bursts are from "Five Train" by Sky Cries Mary and the 200 BPM segments are from "Next Time Around" by Asymmetry. Indoor cyclists can take the JTIP and this fartlek episode for a spin. You can get some hints on cycling to the beat on the Bike Page of JogTunes.com. If you like other fitness modes such as elliptical trainers, stairsteppers, minitrampolines, and aquarunning, check out our Gym/Aqua page Thanks for joining me in working out to the beat of this fartlek session. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunesIndie Podcast or get the MP3. With this episode I've returned to a continuous 45-minute runset format. What's new is that I vary the pace with some alternation between slower and faster runs. There's the usual over 180 BPM tune near the end. I found most of the new artists on the Podsafe Music Network, via their emailed newsletter. From the PMN come: * The Nadas * The Loved Ones * Grace Potter and the Nocturnals * Ours * The Autumns The artists making encore appearances are: * Strangers in Wonderland * Matthew Ebel * Shocking Edison Sugar Army is from Perth, Australia. I found them on Ourobouros Podcast. The outro is by The Sledge Dogs who also make an encore appearance on my show. To experience and enjoy running and working out exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunesIndie Podcast. I'm excited about this show because I've put a genre emphasis on alternative music. This is new for the JTIP and I'm eager to find out if listeners enjoy working out to these tunes. If you've never run to a tune in three-quarter time (a waltz), you'll get your first chance while listening to Pippa Rogers' Day After Day. It really works! The BPM is 152. From Green Dragon Media I found: * Dialog * Pippa Rogers * Homespun From IODA (the Independent Online Distribution Alliance) comes: * King of Prussia * Atllas * The Drawbacks Thanks also go to the following promoters for informing me about their artists: * Karen from Sarathan Records sent me another great tune by Abra Moore whom I previously played on episode #12. * Portia Records introduced me to Respira. * Brianna from Platform One Entertainment alerted me to Athens. The outro is an encore by Momo-J, from Tokyo. You're invited to check out the playlist for this episode for more details, including purchase links and band websites. JTIP #16 2007.12.27 (30 + 15 Minutes) - Thank You DigiVegas | Welcome to the 16th episode of the JogTunesIndie Podcast, the BPM-sequenced, indie music podcast that's meant to be run to. I'm starting off the new year with all new artists, four of whom I found on Paulie Podcaster's DigiVegas Podcast. I'm grateful to Paulie for his recent props of this show and for his expert selection of great indie artists. I'm following our popular format again on this episode: 30 minutes of music sequenced for warming-up, jogging/running, and cooling-down. This is followed by what I call the 15 minute sprint. It's a sequenced run that rapidly builds to a peak run at a flat out 187 BPM and rapidly slows to a cool-down. Most runners will probably do the whole 45 minute workout. Those who just don't have much time can run just the 30 minute segment. Here are the artists from the DigiVegas Podcast: * The Muggs * Triphazard * The Clintons * Petiko I'm introducing Alan Kent Barnette to the indie music scene. His new album is Life from Life's Debris. Alan, a singer/songwriter, teamed up with Troy Lee Warden who produced the album, plays guitar, provides back-up vocals, and wrote some of the music. Fans of the JTIP have heard Troy's work on past episodes, in duos with his wife, Hedda Layne. The other artists are: * Great Northern * The Kellys * Bitter:Sweet The intro and show theme is Universal Domain by Dreamline. The outro is an encore performance by Momo-J . You're invited to check out the playlist for this episode for more details, including purchase links and band websites. You can find past shows and all the tunes from these shows at jogtunesindie.com. If you enjoy indoor cycling, take the JTIP for a spin. JTIP #15 2007.11.27 (45 + 15 Minutes) - First Anniversary Edition | This is the 15th episode and first anniversary edition of the JogTunesIndie Podcast, the BPM-based indie music podcast that's meant to be run to. To experience and enjoy running exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunesIndie Podcast. For this anniversary edition I decided to reminisce a bit. Most of the songs are by great indie artists who appeared in earlier JTIP shows. I decided not to repeat any tunes, just play new ones by these performers. Here's what's in store: one hour of music that sequenced in 2 segments, a 45 minute run, and what I like to call a 15 minute sprint. Here are the artists in order of appearance (some have several tunes on board): * Momo-J (Encore) * Shocking Edison (Encore) * ANTIQCOOL (New to the JTIP) * The Alice Project (Encore) * Two Loons for Tea (Encore) * Beau Hall (New) * Brother Love (Encore) * Bob Gentry (Encore) * Hedda Layne and Troy Lee Warden (Encore) (Disclosure: my daughter-in-law and son) You can find the show notes, playlist details, all of tunes, purchase links, and band websites at jogtunesindie.com. | 12/27/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

To experience and enjoy running exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunesIndie Podcast or get the MP3. Here's another 45 minute runset that's divided into 2 segments: 30 minutes including a 3 1/2 minute fast walk cool-down followed by another 15 minutes of running with another easy going cool-down walk. This episode is dedicated to Steve Runner and his popular Phedippidations Podcast. Steve kindly propped the JTIP on his show #117. As a serious runner and an indie music aficionado, Steve really appreciates the JTIP concept. I'm grateful to Steve for the recognition he's given my show and encourage runners who haven't heard the Phedippidations Podcast to subscribe to it soon. His website is http://steverunner.com. JTIP #13 2007.09.27 (45 + 15 Minutes) - The AMP Camp | This is the 13th episode of the JogTunesIndie Podcast, the BPM-based indie music podcast that's meant to be run to. To experience and enjoy running exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunesIndie Podcast. This our first hour-long episode. That's more great running, with a cool-down after 45 minutes if you don't have the time for the full runset. This is also the first episode that invites cyclists to pedal to the beat of the tunes on my show. I also give some gear suggestions along the way. Please be warned that cycling to music on a road or trail is dangerous, so I don't endorse road cycling to the podcast. I have greatly enjoyed pedaling on my trainer to the last several episodes and thought listener/runners might enjoy doing the same on a stationary bike, kinetic trainer, or rollers. You can find more information about cycling to the beat on my new website, BikeToTheBeat.com. I welcome your opinions about the the longer length and enhanced feature of the show. You can send them to comments@jogtunes.com. Most of the songs are by artists whose works were played by members of the Association of Music Podcasting (AMP). I'm grateful to AMP and the shows I used as a resource. Here are the AMP-associated music podcasts and the artists they and I played: * Dave's Lounge: Bitter:Sweet - Peach Stealing Monkeys * Audio Gumshoe: Amanda Bentley - David Lane * Coal Cracker Radio: Junior - Annex * Homegrown Podcast: Matt Nathanson * Indie Music Sampler: Peter Katz and the Curious - Strangers in Wonderland * Journey Inside My Mind: Beatrice Ericsson Other artists on this show: * Hedda Layne and Troy Lee Warden - Disclosure statement: Hedda and Troy are signed artists. They gave me permission to play their music royalty free. Troy just happens to be my son and Hedda's my daughter-in-law. I really like their music, our family relationship notwithstanding. * Urbansnake You're invited to check out the playlist for this episode for more details, including purchase links and band websites. To experience and enjoy running exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunesIndie Podcast or get the MP3 at jogtunesindie.com. Here's another motivating, fun runset for music-paced running in a 2-in-1 format. You can run to 30 minutes with warm-up, peak run, and cool-down tunes, or you can continue for another 20 minutes for a complete 50 minute workout. As in the past 2 episodes, I include a faster run in the second segment after the first cool-down. Overall, the tempos are a bit faster in this episode, so casual runners should do a periodic pulse check. I welcome your opinions about this format. You can send them to comments@jogtunes.com. The Independent Online Distribution Alliance (IODA) is dedicated to the promotion of great indie music, so I dedicated this J-TIP episode to IODA. All of the tunes are from their distribution website, PROMONET. Here are the artists' names: You Say Party! We Say Die! Abra Moore Frank Black Blind Pew The High Court Flesh For Lulu Little Spitfire Niki Barr Derek Miller Hopewell Two Hours Traffic Everett Young H Is for Hellgate The intro is by Dreamline. The tune is Universal Domain (109 BPM) The outro is Don't Want It To Stop (128 BPM) by Hedda Layne and Troy Lee Warden, a fine signed duo who happen to also be my daughter-in-law and son. JTIP #10 2007.06.27 (45 min) - 2 in One - No time for 45? Run 30 | This is the tenth JogTunesIndie Podcast, the BPM-based indie music podcast that's meant to be run to. To experience and enjoy running exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunesIndie Podcast or get the MP3. Just for fun and a little variety, I'm trying another format in this episode. The songs are synched to provide a 30-minute segment within a 45-minute runset. Runners who just don't have time to complete the 45-minute work-out can cool down and stop running at 30 minutes. Everyone else can go for 16 more minutes. The last segment includes a faster sprint before the second cool-down. Please tell us what you think at comments@jogtunes.com. A big thanks to two outstanding music podcasters for their help in preparing this episode. The first goes to Ed Uken and his new show, Journey Into Soul. Ed plays a great mix of new soul, jazz, funk, R&B, blues, and electronic music. His first two episodes included music by and an interview with Ian Martin, bassist, producer, and composer. His Tell Me If You Still Care is number two in this runset and kicks us into a nice run at 162 BPM. Then there's Allan Carr and DarkHorse Radio. Allan's in the UK and plays a wonderfully eclectic mix of indie music from around the world. I found Matt Mays on Allan's show and I'm happy to play Matt's City of Lakes in this show. It's number 6 in the set and runs at 169 BPM. Here are the artists (click to see their websites), songs, and BPMs: Dreamline - Universal Domain (109 BPM) (Intro) Sophia Ramos - Black Madonna (149 BPM) - Girlfriends Ghost (162 BPM) Ian Martin - Tell Me If You Still Care (162 BPM) CLING - Abandoned (174 BPM) - Luna C (181 BPM) - The Other Side (141) The Legend Killers - Hittin' The Road (162 BPM) - Gonna Snap (152 BPM) Natives of the New Dawn - Good Day (175 BPM) Matt Mays - City of Lakes (150 BPM) Hedda Layne and Troy Lee Warden - Don't Want It To Stop (128 BPM) (Record label artists and my son and daughter-in-law) (Outro) You're invited to jogtunesindie.com to check out the playlist for this episode for more details, including purchase links to iTunes Music Stores in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, and Japan. JTIP #11 2007.07.27 (45 Min) - Maccast Tribute | This is the eleventh JogTunesIndie Podcast, the BPM-based indie music podcast that's meant to be run to. To experience and enjoy running exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunesIndie Podcast here on iTunes. Our Podshow listing. Our Odeo Channel. Our Podcast Alley listing. Our podlounge page. And on podnova, check us out here. Our 2-in-1 format was so well received I've decided to do it again. For newbies, 2-in-1 means that the songs are synced to provide a 30-minute segment within a 45-minute runset. Runners who just don't have time to complete the 45-minute workout can cool down and stop running at 30 minutes. Everyone else can go for 15 more minutes. The last segment includes a faster sprint before the second cool-down. Please tell us what you think at comments@jogtunes.com. This show is a tribute to Adam Christianson and his podcast, the Maccast. Adam helped us get jogtunes.com on the map and then gave this podcast a kick start as well. The consummate Mac geek, he loves Macs and he also loves his music. I've searched his shows and found many tunes from his shows that are great for running exactly to the beat. I've included three of them in this episode. Here are the artists, songs, and BPMs: Aroarah - My Biggest Mistake (172 BPM) Andrew Osenga - Santa Barbara (160 BPM) The New Addiction - The World is Over (162 BPM) The other tunes come from a variety of sources. These include solicitations from the bands by email, for which I'm grateful. I've found some great artists this way. The Podsafe Music Network is another source of some of our songs. Sinch's return to the JTIP is from the PMN. Ian Martin also makes an encore appearance. I found him on the Journey Into Soul Podcast. Ian Martin - You Are (123 BPM) Rob Szabo - If I Could Do It All Again (149 BPM) - Girlfriends Ghost (162 BPM) The Sledge Dogs - The Running Man (118 BPM) Uncle Seth - A Little Bit More (158 BPM) 46bliss - The Way You Are (178 BPM) Dirty Rig - Rock Did It (168 BPM) Sinch - Identity Theft (153 BPM) The Weak Need - Do You Feel Me Now (125 BPM) You're invited to check out the playlist for this episode for more details, including purchase links to iTunes Music Stores in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, and Japan. JTIP #3 2007.01.04 Thanks to High Orbit | This is the third JogTunesIndie Podcast, the BPM-based indie music podcast that's meant to be run to. For half-hour fun runs, exactly to the beat of great indie music, please subscribe to the The JogTunesIndie Podcast or get the MP3. With this episode Dr. Bob introduces a new theme in which each show plays songs by artists played on another "guest" music podcast. This episode features Matthew Ebel's High Orbit Podcast and the artists he played on episodes 29, 33, 34, and 35. * Polaradio * Audio Spaghetti * Signal to Noise * Mossback * The Alice Project * X-Ray Dogs Matthew is a great talent. We played his own songs on the last podcast (JTIP #2) and visited many of the websites he has designed. His selection of indie artists is outstanding. The background warm-up music for this episode was provided by Axinite, a great Colorado- based instrumental group listed on the Podsafe Music Network. We continue to be grateful to Charlie Crowe for the great lead-in and closing music we play on all the episodes. He can be found on the PMN. Excellent tunes for running!
Dr. Bob hosts a radio-style mix for runners that can't be beat. Compared to Podrunner (to which I also subscribe and love), JogTunesIndie has a much wider variation in tempo, starting at a comfortable trot then peaking at around 180 bpm, then cooling off. Also, he provides intros to the music every few songs, and the songs are more alt-rock than DJ Steveboy's electronica. Again, love them both -- you will too. Download these episodes and hit the road!
Great Job Dr. Bob!
Jog Tunes rocks. It works for my bike and run training,
Very awesome
This is my new favorite podcast. It is so nice to have music to run to that is interesting and entertaining. The variety makes my runs more enjoyable and I have found a few artists that I really like along the way
