Clean576: Nell Stephenson Gives The Paleo Diet A Modern-Day Makeover | Paleo nutritional health expert Nell Stephenson is back again as our guest today on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore! We first introduced you to the work Nell is doing in the Paleo community in September 2010 and since that time she's been busy working on spreading the message to a much wider audience. After collaborating with Professor Loren Cordain and Lorrie Cordain on The Paleo Diet Cookbook in 2011, she's back in 2012 with a fabulous new book of her own entitled Paleoista: Gain Energy, Get Lean, and Feel Fabulous With the Diet You Were Born to Eat. Nell says that many people, women especially, can be turned off by the whole "caveman" aspect of the Paleo diet. While she says that approach is perfectly fine as a way to attract people to the lifestyle, she has a different take on Paleo that is more suited to modern-day living. That's why she created this new term Paleoista to mash together Paleo and fashionista is different twist on eating this way. Listen in as Nell shares about how to respect the traditional diet of our ancestors while living in the 21st Century! One of our all-time favorite interview guests has got to be the Austin, TX-based founder of an incredible web site for people struggling with a variety of issues surrounding food named Karly Pitman. After years of befriending her online and appreciating how she has helped tens of thousands of people, Jimmy was privileged to meet Karly in person last month and she truly is a beautiful woman inside and out seeking to make this world a better place by offering a listening ear and words of encouragement for those who are downtrodden and discouraged. Her work at “First Ourselves” is just phenomenal for people (mostly women) who continually struggle with weight loss, overeating, body image, binge eating and her favorite topic of sugar addiction. It’s been a few years since Karly was on this podcast–in Episodes 129, 130 and 227–discussing her own struggles with several eating disorders such as sugar addiction, overeating, bulimia, binge eating disorder, compulsive dieting, and body hatred that gives her a personal and unique perspective on how to best help others going through these same experiences for themselves. Clean564: Stefani 'Paleo Pepper' Ruper Brings A Refreshing Irreverence To The Paleo Community | Paleo health blogger Stefani Ruper is our guest today on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore! Stefani, who goes affectionately by the nickname "Pepper," has quite the story behind how she came to the Paleo diet in 2010. From sugar addiction to vegetarianism that led her down the path to Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), she describes her switch to Paleo as "a truly transformative experience." Nowadays she expresses her displeasure with the way food is promoted in America and the typical stereotypes that surround food (i.e. meat is for men and only women love chocolate). She's unafraid to share how she really feels on her popular "Paleo Pepper" blog where a few "f" bombs here that would even make Richard Nikoley blush. Thanks to the education and influence from books by former podcast guests like Nora Gedgaudas and Mark Sisson, Stefani has found her way and is sharing it with the world in the only way she knows how--being herself! Clean563: Dr. Jeffrey Gerber Details The Low-Carb Connection To Fat Reform | Denver's Diet Doctor Dr. Jeffry Gerber is our guest today on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore! Dr. Gerber is a man on a mission in his hometown of Denver, Colorado. As a strong believer in the nutritional principles of carbohydrate-restriction, he has set his eyes on making dramatic changes to the way we go about treating obesity in the United States by embarking on a series of "Fat Reform" lectures. He outlines how dietary carbohydrates like whole grains that are promoted by government agencies like the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) are actually leading to higher healthcare costs because of the long-term health consequences associated with obesity and chronic disease that come from eating those very foods deemed as "healthy." There's a serious need for reform that needs to take place and Dr. Gerber is certainly doing his part to help make that happen. Listen in as he shares his vision for bringing about a much-needed paradigm shift in the way people view the benefits that come from being on a low-carb diet. Clean562: PaleoFX Founders Keith And Michelle Norris Reflect On Their Inaugural Event | Austin, TX-based fitness and health experts and PaleoFX founders Keith and Michelle Norris are our guests today on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore! Something special happened down there on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin, Texas in the middle of March 2012. After Keith and Michelle Norris had a meeting of the minds with Kevin Cottrell just 150 days earlier envisioning a conference that would foster collaboration among fitness professionals, healthcare professionals, nutritionists, research scientists and laypersons who approach their respective practices from an evolutionary perspective in order to successfully address modern health challenges through the application of ancestral based theory in practice, even they were skeptical they could pull it off. But that's precisely what they did when the inaugural PaleoFX Ancestral Momentum - Theory to Practice Symposium officially got underway on March 14, 2012 at the Stark Center during the same week as the uber-popular South By Southwest (SXSW) music and film festival. Austin was hopping busy, but that didn't stop Paleo enthusiasts from having a great time learning and engaging in PaleoFX! From the volunteers (the real heroes of this event!) who worked tirelessly to make this event an overwhelming success to the many guest speakers and panelists who shared from their wisdom and experience, this was one of the most interactive nutritional health conferences Jimmy has ever been to! Wanna get a feel for what PaleoFX (aka #PFX12 on Twitter) was like? Check out this cool trailer they created for it and debuted on the last day: http://youtu.be/sSHVZAT35OA And Keith and Michelle will be the first to tell you that they would not have been able to pull off landing so many excellent guest speakers for PaleoFX without the commitment and dedication of one key player--Robb Wolf. Despite his wife being great with child, Robb agreed to come for one day of the conference and the domino effect attracting many other big names like Mark Sisson, Chris Kresser, Dr. Jack Kruse and others inevitably followed. Robb was truly one of the superstars at the event and here's the first two minutes of his talk at #PFX12: http://youtu.be/0uMO5ByJayc Jimmy had a great time attending PaleoFX and enjoyed speaking with Keith and Michelle Norris about some of the main highlights and fun behind-the-scenes happenings of this very special symposium. Clean560: Dr. Peter Attia Has Declared ‘War On Insulin’ | Medical doctor and nutrition science blogger Dr. Peter Attia is our guest today on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore! Prior to 2010, Dr. Peter Attia was a typical medical doctor who was trained well in prescribing medications for a variety of chronic diseases. But he decided the typical high-carb, low-fat diet he was on was not optimal for managing his weight and health and he embarked on an incremental journey to start livin’ la vida low-carb. First he cut sugar, then other white carbohydrates, then starchy carbohydrates and finally cut carbs down to 50g daily along with reducing protein to 120g per day. The result was lower body fat, improved cardiovascular markers and a marked improvement in his athletic performance. Dr. Attia has continued to learn everything he can get his hands on about nutrition and experimenting on himself to see what works. Through his friendship with former podcast guest Gary Taubes and others, everything he thought he knew about nutrition was just plain wrong. That’s why he decided to throw his hat into the arena of ideas by creating his new blog “The War On Insulin (And The Defense Of Fat)” in 2012 to help communicate the lessons he has learned from his perspective as a physician. Clean559: Adam Kosloff Says It’s Time To Move ‘Beyond Caloriegate’ | Beyond Caloriegate e-book author Adam Kosloff is our guest today on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore! Right-click to save this episode to your computer. Within the low-carb community, there are people who take on various roles in helping to spread the healthy message of carbohydrate-restriction. There are the torchbearers who put themselves on the front lines of the battle through blogs and podcasts discussing the various topics of the day. Additionally, there are people who work within their inner spheres of influence telling friends and family members about the changes they have experienced through low-carb living. But today’s podcast guest is what I like to refer to as a “thinker” who seriously ponders the thoughts and ideas that make up the core of what we believe. He is Adam Kosloff and you might recall I interviewed him previously in Episode 355 and shared about his 2011 e-book The Low-Carber’s Survival Guide. Well he’s back in 2012 with a brand new e-book he’s calling Beyond Caloriegate that delves even deeper into a concept he calls the “Black Box.” As long as calories in, calories out dominates the discussion of nutrition and health we will never move beyond the same old predictable results we are seeing now. Listen in as Jimmy and Adam talk about this and so much more in a rather thought-provoking podcast. Clean556: Professor Loren Cordain Introduces Antinutrient Foods In 'The Paleo Answer' | Modern-day father of the Paleo Diet movement Professor Loren Cordain is our guest today on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore! We owe a great deal of gratitude for the work of Professor Loren Cordain on the popularity of the Paleo diet movement that is happening in America and around the world. Through his thorough research of the diet and lifestyle of Paleolithic man, we have learned so much about how modern man should be feeding himself and doing to be optimally healthy. Over a decade after the release of his landmark book The Paleo Diet, Cordain is back with a brand new book that is essentially Paleo 2.0 called The Paleo Answer: 7 Days to Lose Weight, Feel Great, Stay Young. In this book, he explores the topic of saturated fat which he has been heavily criticized for allegedly eschewing and sets the record straight once and for all. He also says this is the first book that identifies the "antinutrient" foods in a clear and concise manner to describe grains, beans, and potatoes. This interview and book will open the eyes of some Paleo and low-carb followers who choose to eat these foods as part their diet. Clean550: Jill Escher Tells Sugar Addicts To Say 'Farewell, Club Permachub' | Sugar addiction awareness activist Jill Escher is our guest today on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore! When Jill approached Jimmy about writing the foreword to her new book Farewell, Club Perma-Chub: A Sugar Addict's Guide to Easy Weight Loss, he was curious to see what her dietary philosophy was all about and whether he could confidently sign his name on as part of the book. But it didn't take long to realize that Jill totally understands that sugar and refined carbohydrates are a big problem with obesity and chronic disease in the United States and that something needs to be done about it sooner rather than later. That's why she wrote her fantastic book (and Jimmy did write the foreword) which you will hear all about in today's interview! Clean538: Cardiologist Dr. Lowell Gerber Reignited His Passion For Health With Low-Carb | Cardiologist and low-carb weight loss instructor Dr. Lowell Gerber is our guest today on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore! Just a few short years ago, Dr. Lowell Gerber was still mired in conventional wisdom regarding the role nutrition plays in health, especially heart health. But something kept bothering him about a treatment that seemed too heavily focused on prescribing more and more drug therapies like statins and less interested in getting to the root causes of the issue to begin with. That's when he came across the work of a fellow physician from Lawrence, Kansas named Dr. Mary Vernon and her Innovative Metabolic Solutions program teaching medical professionals about the basics of using carbohydrate-restriction therapeutically with patients to help them with obesity, diabetes and many other chronic diseases. Dr. Gerber has been a sponge soaking in all of this information and has rekindled his passion and love for making patients healthier than ever before. Dr. Tsafrir is one of the most enthusiastic fans of the GAPS (Gut and Psychology Syndrome) protocol as outlined by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride. Jimmy has been working on getting an interview with Dr. Campbell-McBride for a while (and he's still pursuing it!), but he found Dr. Tsafrir's dedication to and implementation of these principles in her own practice as a great reason to have her come on the show to talk about it. The focus of this nutritional plan for treating a wide variety of mental disorders like autism, depression, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, learning disabilities, dyslexia, dyspraxia and more is on the consumption of real, whole foods that restore gut health to bring everything into proper balance again in the body. As you can imagine, Dr. Tsafrir is a great fan of traditional diets as espoused by The Weston A. Price Foundation, the evolutionary principles of the Paleo diet, and a healthy high-fat (especially saturated fat), moderate protein, low-carb diet for the best health you can possibly attain. Her ultimate goal is to heal all of her patients through the therapeutic use of natural dietary and detoxification steps. She's doing just that through her medical practice in Newton, Massachusetts! Clean532: Dr. Jaime Uribarri Warns Of Disease-Making Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) | Nephrologist and advanced glycation end products researcher Dr. Jaime Uribarri discusses "The AGE-less Way" program he developed today on The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show With Jimmy Moore! Dr. Uribarri has long studied the impact of advanced glycation end products (aka AGEs) and their negative impact on health, including diabetes, heart disease and kidney disease. It's one of the reasons why he developed what he describes as "a practical program that gives you control over your health" known as "The AGE-less Way." You'll quickly find this isn't just another weight loss gimmick, but rather a method for restoring your body to the health it was meant to have. Some of the concepts Dr. Uribarri shared during this interview will be quite controversial to those of us in the low-carb and Paleo communities, including why he believes animal fats INCREASE AGEs which then leads to proteins sticking together that leads to atheroschlerosis. You know Jimmy will have a thing or two to say about this during this fascinating conversation. PLUS: If you have not yet tried the brand new Natural line of Quest Bars that Jimmy Moore played a part in developing sweetened with a unique blend of erythritol and stevia to keep this power-packed low-carb protein bar made with 100% all-natural ingredients, then you are missing out on a real bona fide treat. Clean529: Encore Week 2012 - Dr. Jack Kruse | We finish up an epic week of health podcasting here at The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore today as we air the final "Encore Week" 2012 episode by featuring the top vote-getter by my listeners from the 2011 interview guests. We've already heard some amazing conversations with Swedish LCHF physician Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt, a continuation of the "safe starches" debate with Perfect Health Diet co-author Paul Jaminet, blood sugar expert Jenny Ruhl and Wheat Belly author and cardiologist Dr. William Davis. Today we welcome in a Nashville, TN-based neurosurgeon named Dr. Jack Kruse who exploded on the scene in 2011 seemingly out of nowhere. Dr. Kruse is one of the most interestingly strange people you'll ever meet in the Paleo/low-carb community. He's an outside-the-box thinker with a passionate zeal for getting to the bottom of the real causes of obesity, chronic disease and all that ails us. In 2011, he created a very prolific and popular web site at JackKruse.com where he outlined his "Leptin Rx" principles that helped him lose weight and change his life forever. We'll be hearing lots more from this health rebel who will be making an impact for many more years to come! Plus, Dr. Kruse answers these questions from LLVLC Show listeners: CASSIE ASKS: Is there any truth to the slowed metabolism as a result of an extended low carb diet; and any related effect on thyroid health as reported by Matt Stone quoting Dr. Atkins? ANN ASKS: I wonder if you could ask Dr Jack Kruse about any special details of diet and exercise needed for those who are quite obese, have Hashimotos and find it hard to get even the low carb diet to work. His Leptin Rx is probably the answer but can even more steps be taken???? JAMIE ASKS: If your doctor has told you that they want to put you on statins, what (evidenced-based) references would you quote to argue against it? JENNIFER ASKS: If calories don't count when you are leptin sensitive, and they do if you are leptin resistant, how much do calories matter during the reset period? JILL ASKS: Do carbs deplete the body of Vitamin C? People who eat a high carb diet, may need much more Vitamin C to prevent scurvy? DONNA ASKS: Research suggests that Neu5gc in red meat (and to a lesser extent dairy) leads to inflammation and diseases. It has nothing to do with saturated fat. I am an avid low-carber (and I love dairy!), but I am really concerned about this research and the possibility that Neu5gc might explain the association that so much research has found between cancer and red meat consumption, which we low-carbers tend to explain away by saying the studies confound red meat consumption with processed meat consumption. LISA ASKS: As a neurosurgeon, do you have any suggestions for a chronic daily headache? PAT ASKS: In his earlier interview on your show, Dr. Kruse mentioned a relationship between his torn meniscus and Leptin. Could he explain that connection in plain English for us non-medical folks? LIZZIE FROM ENGLAND ASKS: I had lived on a so called ‘healthy’ wholegrain, low fat, high fruit (sugar!) - with some added soya - diet for nearly 46 years, can the damage/inflammation that I may have created in my body be completely reversed if I maintain my LCHF diet? In other words, even though I eat low carb now, will I still be more susceptible to (for example) arthritis/Alzheimer's/cancer because of my past high carb diet? TERRY ASKS: Do you know of any research that shows the effect of low carb living by age. More specifically, by levels of testosterone or estrogen, which, would be higher in people in their 20's vs. older adults. Since these hormones regulate lipoprotein I would think the younger you are, the better your body would be at regulating fat mobilization. I'm looking for any research on this topic. I guess the bottom line questions is do younger people have more success on low carb diets. ELIZABETH ASKS: Why do I gain weight like gangbusters if I go off t | 1/4/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Clean528: Encore Week 2012 - 'Wheat Belly' Author Dr. William Davis | You've found the #1 low-carb podcast on the Internet called The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore and stumbled upon our historic "Encore Week" where Jimmy invites back the favorite podcast guests from the previous year as voted on by his listeners. "Encore Week" 2012 has been making waves with in-depth, quality interviews featuring Swedish LCHF physician Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt on Monday, a continuation of the "safe starches" debate with the Perfect Health Diet co-author Paul Jaminet on Tuesday, and then the incomparable expert on all things related to blood sugar Jenny Ruhl on Wednesday. Today's "Encore Week" 2012 interview features one of the breakthrough authors in the low-carb community in 2011. He is Milwaukee, WI-based cardiologist Dr. William Davis who wrote an incredible new book warning of the dangers to health and weight of consuming wheat called Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight, and Find Your Path Back to Health. While this seemingly harmless food we are consuming is actually promoted by health experts and in government guidelines as "healthy," Dr. Davis warns that major changes in the gliadin content of modern-day wheat is what makes it so dastardly for us to be consuming now. This book is one of the more seminal works on this subject that will hopefully spawn even more research and a closer examination by others in the years to come. Plus, Dr. Davis answers these questions from LLVLC Show listeners: DAN ASKS: Thank you Dr. Davis for writing the book "Wheat Belly". I've bought 3 copies to hand out to friends, plus the audio version. It's making a difference. I'm sure you are receiving lots of success stories. I have lost 145 pounds, one big reason is I put the wheat out. I tell everyone I know to read your book. I've listened to the audio version several times. You mention the "accompanying CD ROM"--Is there a CD ROM that goes along with the book? Will there be a paperback version and if so what will be the updates? JAMIE ASKS: If wheat has addictive properties, are their any supplements or even drugs that someone who is wheat addicted might take to help them wean themselves off wheat. Can you list the other grains that have possible wheat like effects? Hops are used in beer. Any thoughts on beer? If your doctor has told you that they want to put you on statins, what (evidenced-based) references would you quote to argue against it? MIKE SAYS: Check this out: 'Statins can cut prostate threat': Medication for cholesterol can reduce risk of cancer Now that Lipitor's patent has run out, here's the latest "coincidental" side effect benefit of statins: Just more one more BS epidemiological study. PETER FROM TAIWAN ASKS: Regarding the Apo E4 gene, about 1 in 5 people have it putting them at greater risk of developing atherosclerosis. Shouldn't people find out if they have this gene before starting a low-carb, high-fat diet? LUKE ASKS: Should individuals with high heart scan calcium scores avoid the heavy ingestion of fat at one meal followed immediately by intense exercise or exertion? Does saturated fat contribute to coronary plaque because it has a flat molecular structure unlike unsaturated fats whose molecular structure is "bent" or "kinky"? You explain in Track Your Plaque that 20% of coronary artery plaque is calcium. A heart scan measures calcium in the arteries. Therefore total plaque can be estimated by multiplying the calcium score by five. In this regard can you answer the following questions. Proponents of chelation therapy contend that chelation can remove plaque from the arteries. Do you believe chelation therapy removes calcium from the arteries? What is the purpose of the body including 20% calcium in plaque? JANET ASKS: If someone has HDL of 79 and triglycerides of 62, but an LDL pattern A of 199, is this a concern? The reason my naturopath is concerned is that i have high blood pressure and took a cardiac test which measures to the fraction th | 1/4/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Clean527: Encore Week 2012 - 'Blood Sugar 101' Creator Jenny Ruhl | Hey everyone and welcome back to The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore for Jimmy’s annual "Encore Week" episodes where he has invited YOUR favorite podcast guests from the previous year. "Encore Week" 2012 has been well-received so far featuring interviews on Monday with Swedish LCHF physician Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt and then again on Tuesday with Perfect Health Diet co-author Paul Jaminet. Today's interview features an expert in the subject of blood sugar and diabetes named Jenny Ruhl from "Blood Sugar 101." Ruhl supports the use of carbohydrate-restriction as a means for obtaining optimal blood sugar readings, especially for diabetics, and believes blood sugar control is much more important than wondering what your insulin level is. One of the most fascinating parts of Jimmy's original July 2011 interview with her in Episode 486 was how she spoke so matter-of-factly regarding a wide variety of issues in the low-carb community that had your eyebrows doing jumping jacks. Expect more of the same in this follow-up interview from one of the best of the best interview guests of 2011! Plus, Ruhl answers these questions from LLVLC Show listeners: JAMIE ASKS: Have you done any research looking at the human insulin response to artificial sweeteners? Do you know anyone who has done, not just an N=1 blood sugar test on Diet Coke, for example, but to measure their insulin response to Diet Coke, even though blood sugar may not be raised. DAN ASKS: What is the real heart disease risk to diabetics and the effectiveness of statins for diabetics, especially for primary prevention? JOLI ASKS: I'm 58 years old, 5'5" and 168 lbs. Before low-carb I had gotten up to 215. I got myself a blood glucose monitor a couple of months ago. And last night I made sweet potatoes and white rice with egg for the dogs and, for the first time, ate a big bowl myself thinking they were safe starches. I ate 1/2 of a large sweet potato and two ladles full of rice and 1 egg. About 30-45 mins. later I tested my blood sugar and it was 241! What damage did that do to me? I tried testing again a couple hours later and it was back to 124. First thing this morning after an overnight fast, it was 103. After the very high reading yesterday, I became very sleepy for about an hour and then I CRAVED sugar! Any comments on this? I am very near sighted. When I was a kid, every year I would go to the eye doctor and need a stronger prescription. Could high blood sugar then from spending Saturday mornings eating candy in front of the TV for hours on end be the reason for my eyesight deterioration? LEZLEE ASKS: I read so many studies on PubMed and Medscape and it is so contradictory at least regarding meat vs. carbs regarding cancer, weight gain, and Type 2 diabetes. How can we distinguish between what research is real or just some researchers who have a hypotheses that they want to be true? GINA ASKS: I'm diabetic, and I've been following a very low-carb diet to control my blood sugar. Most days, I eat fewer than 20 grams of carbs, all from vegetables and nuts. No gluten, no sugar. My blood sugar has really responded well, especially my post-prandial numbers, but I simply cannot get my fasting sugars into the normal range. I've also been exercising and even taking a dose of insulin some nights, but in the morning my blood sugar is always above 120. Does Jenny have any suggestions for me? Don't miss listening to the rest of the "Encore Week" 2012 interviews featuring Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt, Paul Jaminet, Dr. William Davis and Dr. Jack Kruse. Clean526: Encore Week 2012 – ‘Perfect Health Diet’ Author Paul Jaminet | Hey everyone and welcome back to The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore for Jimmy’s annual “Encore Week” episodes where he invites YOUR favorite podcast guests from the previous year. “Encore Week” 2012 started off well with Swedish LCHF physician Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt on Monday and continues on today with yet another fabulous and somewhat controversial guest inPerfect Health Diet author Paul Jaminet. After Jimmy first interviewed him on this podcast in March 2011, he became extremely curious about one of the key concepts in his nutritional program known as “safe starches” (white potatoes, white rice, tapioca, etc. for their low level of toxins) that spawned a series of blog posts that began in earnest a very serious and important discussion within the low-carb and Paleo communities–even drawing several insightful and spirited responses from noted nutrition-minded physicians Dr. Ron Rosedale and Dr. Joseph Mercola. Listen to Paul discuss his reaction to the “buzz” that happened in 2011 about this and what he has in store for 2012! Plus, Jaminet answers these questions from LLVLC Show listeners: DAN ASKS: If “safe starches” raise a diabetic’s blood sugar, should he or she still eat them? As a Type 2, I’ve always observed the principle of eating to your meter and most “safe starches” jack up my blood sugar. JAMES ASKS: What are your thoughts on the potential lack of toxicity of fructose within the context of very low polyunsaturated fat presence; both dietary and stored PUFA? LISA ASKS: Are cassava flour, plantain flour, arrowroot, and wild rice all safe starches? Do you have an opinion on nutritional yeast for a cheese-like flavor for those who can’t eat dairy? I avoid autolyzed yeast and yeast extract because they are supposed to be excitotoxins (MSG), but I don’t know if that also applies to nutritional yeast? Do you recommend any specific tests (such as the GI Effects test from Metametrix) to test for infectious organisms like parasites? Do you have any thoughts about using high dose oregano oil to kill parasites (such as Biotics “ADP” product which is standardized sustained release oregano)? One of Biotics’ recent webinars referenced a study where 600 mg of oregano given for 6 weeks effectively killed parasites. JAMIE ASKS: Many people go “cold turkey” by dropping their carbs to a very low level and after losing weight, experimenting to see how much carbs each day they can tolerate before putting on weight. Do any have thoughts about a “soft-landing” approach where carbs are reduced week by week until weight starts falling, thereby avoiding any negative symptoms of the big drop? Don’t miss listening to the rest of the “Encore Week” 2012 interviews featuring Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt, Jenny Ruhl, Dr. William Davis and Dr. Jack Kruse. SPECIAL THANKS TO THE SPONSOR OF “ENCORE WEEK” 2012:Quest Protein Bars who have a brand new Natural line sweetened with stevia and erythritol featuring the flavors Cinnamon Roll, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Coconut Cashew, Lemon Cream Pie (Jimmy’s favorite!) and Strawberry Cheesecake. Plus, don’t forget about the original Quest Bar line that is 99.96% natural (with just a touch of sucralose) featuring the flavors Peanut Butter & Jelly, Vanilla Almond Crunch, Peanut Butter Supreme, Mixed Berry Bliss (this is Jimmy’s favorite from the Original Line), Chocolate Brownie, and Apple Pie. After being diagnosed as diabetic, Jenny worked hard on her diet and physical fitness, only to find that her blood sugar levels were continuing to worsten. To learn more, she spent years scouring the web for reliable information on diabetes and blood sugar. Much of what she found differed dramatically from what doctors were telling patients about what caused diabetes and how it should be treated. She was searching for the answers to questions like: What do scientists actually know about Type 2 diabetes? Why do doctors miss diabetes diagnoses until long after people already have diabetic complications? And what blood sugar levels are truly low enough to prevent further damage to the organs and beta cells? Jenny uncovered the reality of where the current practice recommendations most doctors follow came from and why they are inadequate to protect people with diabetes from complications. Fortunately, she also found some very solid information about what blood sugar levels seem to be low enough to prevent complications. Listen in for all the details! CleanBlogger CarbSane Calls Gary Taubes a Willful Fraud (Episode 436) | Low-Carb blogger CarbSane is today’s guest on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show With Jimmy Moore. CarbSane is the Nom De Guerre of a blogger who has some radical ideas about low-carb diets and how/why they work. Many will be surprised to hear the foods she chooses to include in her eating plan, but regular listeners will, no doubt, be most startled by what she has to say about Gary Taubes and his book Good Calories, Bad Calories. CarbSane not only believes that Taubes is wrong and that the research he sites does not back his assertions, but that Taubes is aware of the fact and is “in it for the money” in her words. Regular listeners should be well aware of this fact, but it bears repeating: Jimmy Moore invites many people with many perspectives on this show, and he does not necessarily endorse their viewpoints. Mr. Taubes has been a frequent guest and friend of the show for years, and will be making an upcoming appearance here in which he may rebut the views of CarbSane. Full of info and fun to listen to!
With so many opting out of the low-carb world Jimmy Moore is holding tight with scientific backing. I have dropped 60 lbs to date and have only 20 more to get to my goal weight! Then I'll continue building more muscle and releasing more fat. This lifestyle change has really made the difference of health between success and failure. Jimmy's podcast includes many experts not only from the low-carb world but other health specialties. He is easy to listen to as are his guests. If you are serious about your health then listen to Jimmy!
Great Podcast
Jimmy Moore is a great voice for the low carb community. He is through in his research and does not back down from his beliefs. Jimmy is a beacon of light in a world of mis-information. I enjoy his podcasts immensely. Having lost a large amount of weight he brings an understanding to the struggle that others have on this journey.
Wealth of knowledge
Jimmy's podcast interviews are amazing. He gets some of the best experts with awesome credentials. I even love the ones where he challenges conventional beliefs. I listen to them during my daily commute to work and cannot wait to find out who he will interview next. Excellent quality and information. Must check them out!!
