ExplicitYensid's School of Sorcery and Necromancy | This special edition of The Swinging Wake is a docent tour slash orientation for Yensid's School of Sorcery and Necromancy. If that doesn't make any sense, it can be explained by watching this video here... This recording is meant to be downloaded into a mobile mp3 player and listened to while at Disneyland. It can be enjoyed before, during, or after Harry Potter Day at Disneyland. DISCLAIMER: Only those who utilize proper ear-covering headphones or those with an ear-fitting gasket of some sort will be able to truly appreciate the full experience of this tour. Those attempting to listen with run of the mill earbuds may have difficulty discerning portions of the tour over the ambient din of the Park itself. This recording has been timed to work best if walking at an easy, casual stroll. Do not walk fast. Picture the frustrating parties of people who spread out in front of you and walk at a pace that can barely be described as moving - that's how slow you can go. Relax. It would be near-impossible to fall behind the pace of the tour, which has several specified stops along the way. Simply right click on YensidsDocent.mp3 below, download the linked file, load it into the mobile mp3 player of your choice, go to Disneyland, press play, and we'll take it from there. Draco, Luna, Gilderoy, Ginny, Viktor and I are waiting for you to join us... | 10/20/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitDan's Touchin' Barn | This is my friend Dan. If you know me personally you probably know him as well. On this episode of The Swinging Wake, which we have titled "Dan's Touchin' Barn," the proprietor of said Barn co-hosts with me and picks out all the music. The result is a smattering of what we laughably call "banter" and an assemblage of music I would never have otherwise played for you. It will be horizon-expanding experience for all of us. So enjoy. ExplicitThe Return Of Violet DeMent | Again, a reprieve from the musical and topical selections of Zoe Necrosis as the hosting and DJ duties are assumed by my paramour, Violet DeMent, who last hosted The Swinging Wake precisely one year ago. Musical selections include Rotersand, Assemblage 23, Black Heart Procession, and much more, and topical discussions touch upon Joseph Gordon-Levitt, formative musical years and the merits of Danny Kaye versus Donald O'Connor. ExplicitErstad Makes The Catch! | This episode features the return of The Halos Report, and in an effort to catch up, I get a little carried away. ExplicitA Fraggle Stick Car Christmas | Savoring this episode from the beginning of December would have been nice, but I took a little extra time to make sure this one had a few extra stops pulled out. It is Christmas, after all. This is the second ever Christmas edition of The Swinging Wake, brought to you by request and proposal of Chrome Skin Jesus of The Razor Blade Dance Floor - you'll understand when you listen. There are special surprises like visitation upon rarely exploited segments and a couple harry, wassailing friends that drop by. ExplicitBrutal, Righteous | This is an episode that will live in infamy.Submitted for your approval is an episode in which I contribute little more than white-russian-fueled rambling and hung-over complaints while my esteemed colleagues, Dominus Maximus and Neil Hatefuture, provide all the music. Dom and Neil are of course the regular hosts of Power Forge Radio, and if you enjoy the more aggressive of musical selections they offer, give them a listen.Good luck. | 11/14/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitKeep Your Hands And Arms Inside The Vehicle | I'm excited about this episode - it's one of the better ones. Violet DeMent and I will be in the Pacific Northwest in a couple weeks, so this episode will have to tide you over until mid-September. I'll be flying the colors in enemy territory during the beginning of September. I hope they don't throw morose coffee at me. I'd be moody too, if my team sucked that much. Take care while I'm gone. ExplicitSix Scoreless Innings | This episode is dropping far too late to be on track for the usual two-week installment schedule, but out of respect for Nick I felt a desire to complete and publish it sooner than originally intended. This will be the new episode until probably mid-May. Things like this really throw reality into sharp relief, don't they? Enjoy the episode. R.I.P. #34 | 4/23/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitI Love Scotch | I've been so busy lately that it took days to record this episode, stealing a moment here or there when I could and the apartment happened to be empty or quiet enough to record. I'm taking a lovely little holiday in the early part of this month, so I honestly doubt that you'll get another new episode until the beginning of May. Violet DeMent and I will be up in the heart of Steinbeck country, breathing in the salty sea air. I've been looking forward to this for months. ExplicitWhite, Orange And Green | So St. Patrick's Day is here again, and my annual tradition for this day never varies: I'll be purchasing a couple six-packs of Guiness and watching "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" followed by "The Quiet Man." Sean Connery and Janet Munro (scene from Darby O'Gill) John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara (scene from The Quiet Man) This episode does indeed have a sharp Irish theme to it, but due to my busy schedule I had to cut it a bit short. Think of it as the Fun Size edition of The Swinging Wake. Anyway, enjoy the show and stay away from the green beer. Drink stout. | 3/16/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitAnd I'll Whisper... "No." | As I write this it is six days until the release of "Watchmen" the film. I'm surprised at how much I am looking forward to the release of this adaptation, as I haven't had any enthusiasm about a current cinematic release since "The Dark Knight." I was originally skeptical about this film, the original Alan Moore work being generally considered unfilmable. But every review I've read and every second of footage I've seen suggests that this thing is right on the money. So you can count on this: the day it comes out, March 6th, I will be there at my local theatre for my traditional "pajama matinee." What on earth is this? you may be asking. ExplicitDon't Just Stare At It, Eat It! | The Valentine's Day Edition of The Swinging Wake brings some familiar features back into rotation: not only Tinseltown B******t but the beloved Ask Dr. Vertigo. ExplicitWalking With Shadows | This episode introduces a new feature I'm calling "Stop Raping My Childhood." Those of you who feel, for example, that George Lucas long ago became more machine than man should appreciate it. Not that this has anything to do with the episode directly, but while I'm on the subject, has anyone else come to realize that Darth Vader is merely an autobiographical representation of George Lucas himself? He begins as a young, ambitious talent with apparently limitless potential. He shakes things up, while trying to find his way. But in the end, he becomes so consumed by his need to push the boundaries of cinema that he loses his way entirely, forgets what he sought out to do in the first place. Annakin Skywalker was convinced by Palpatine to destroy the Jedi entirely. Some dark force eventually convinced Lucas to wage war against film itself, and by proxy, attempt to destroy cinema. His armor - his digital ones and zeros - seem to be all that's left. The storyteller is gone. Anyway, enjoy the show. | 1/15/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitLike The Cold If You Were Dead | Season's Grievings! It's time for the first ever Christmas episode of The Swinging Wake! If anyone wants to know what Zoe wants for Christmas, I would really love a Fraggle Stick Car. Please tell Santa. Besides the latest episode, which is ready to be enjoyed, I've got a couple presents for you. Firstly, a ballad by The King of Terrifying Bullets: And here's a few other random things simply to enjoy: Alright, enough of that. Hopefully you're in the Christmas spirit by now. Enjoy the episode. "I think it's dark and it looks like rain" You said "And the wind is blowing like it's the end of the world" You said "And it's so cold It's like the cold if you were dead" And then you smiled For a second "I think i'm old and i'm feeling pain" You said "And it's all running out like it's the end of the world" You said "And it's so cold It's like the cold if you were dead" And then you smiled For a second Sometimes you make me feel Like i'm living at the edge of the world Like i'm living at the edge of the world "It's just the way i smile" You said | 12/1/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitPut On Your Sunday Clothes | Check this s**t out: My friend Vince made it for the show. He said he created it by listening to a marathon run of The Swinging Wake and composed as he went, the current playlist at any given moment dictating the direction the image digressed to. Dave McKeane used a similar technique when creating the cover art to Skinny Puppy's "Brap" album, and the result was this: Anyway, if you would like to use Vince's new artwork to help promote The Swinging Wake, just copy and paste the text below into your myspace or blog or whatever. ExplicitAre Freaks Electric? | When I started recording this episode, as my banter will indicate, I anticipated that my haste would result in a less than satisfactory result. After completing it, however, I found that I like it a great deal. We'll attribute this result to my indulging in a what-do-I-have-to-lose assemblage of materials. You're going to hear industrial by Numb, the soundtrack to a robotic lesbian love story, a grisly tale of murder and deceit by Neil Gaiman, and be sent away with a tragic ballad by Mr Marty Robbins. Me? I'm right now on the road, as you can see from the preceding post. And oh yeah, IT'S OCTOBER, BABY! God I hope this is nothing like last year. If it is, you will find me a sad Zoe until Spring. ExplicitKnives And Lint | Hello everyone. Welcome aboard the eleventh episode. So, yeah. Dark Knight was pretty freaking amazing, huh? A few notes on this installment of SwingingWakeRadio.com Firstly, on an embarrassing note, I make several mentions in this episode of an athlete named Mark Teixeira. I'd only seen his name in print until an hour after I finished recording this thing, so I keep pronouncing it something to the effect of Tex-uh-ree-uh. Not even close. His name is actually pronounced Tuh-shee-ruh. Yeah, I'm a total shinebox on that one. Secondly, I discuss how weird the trailer for the Frank Miller directed "The Spirit" is. And for your reference, here it is: And just for good measure, here's the Half-Blood Prince teaser. Just for fun. Okay, get to the listening. Bear in mind I've been trying to fight off a cold, so the Nyquilada cocktails made me kind of loopy. Have a good night. | 8/1/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitThere's Room For A Thousand. Any Volunteers? | This week we revert to something resembling the regular format of the show, the emphasis placed on music. We'll hear Thrill Kill Kult, Necessary Response, Clannad, SPF 1000, Die Form, and several others which I'm keeping a secret. I'd like to say more, but today is Taco Tuesday, and I'm wasting time here at this computer. ExplicitA Study In Emerald | This week on The Swinging Wake, Neil Gaiman brings us "A Study in Emerald." I wouldn't steer you wrong, and neither would Neil (knowingly). These are the principle players in tonight's intrigue: Sherlock Holmes, Consulting Detective. Hobbies: violin, cocaine. Dr. James Watson. Occupation: pensioner, sidekick. Professor Moriarty. Arch-Villain. M'wa-ha-ha. Colonel Sebastian Moran. Also Evil. But Not As Notorious As Moriarty. Cthulhu. Destroyer of Worlds. The Great Old Ones. Also Bad News. If you are feeling brave, click on the "POD" icon up above or the "direct download" link below. Both take you to the same foreboding destination. The back alleys and fogbound streets of London await. ExplicitFully Functional And Anatomically Correct | As promised, this week's shenanigans begins with two soulful ballads by the swingingest of android crooners, Commander Data. Sorry this thing is so damn late. I was serving jury duty on a murder trial for a while there, and that cut into the time when I would normally be alone in my apartment and therefore be able to record. The next episode should come out on or around the first of July in order to get us back on schedule. 23 Skidoo! | 6/10/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitOld-Fashioned, Lesbian Love Story | Welcome to an especially rollicking edition of SwingingWakeRadio.com This episode, in my opinion, is especially choice. All the musical tracks are excellent and the mix flows serendipitously well. I really need to expand the audience base of this show. We need more listeners. If you enjoy the show, you can help. It would help keep this crazy thing going. And you don't have to do much. I'm going to display a few images, and follow each with the html code which you can copy and paste. Put it in your blog, on your livejournal, your myspace profile, whatever you can think of. Every reference helps a tremendous amount. Pick what you find prettiest! Oh, by the way: in reviewing this recording it seems I forgot to back-announce my first song. It's called the Gray Remix of "Prayer for the Unborn" by Gary Numan. Some of you may not forgive me for some aspects of episode 6. New ground is explored, and of course there are returning features such as the Word of the Day, Tinseltown B******t, etc. This episode should be enjoyed chilled or at room temperature. ExplicitMusic For A Darkened Theatre | I know this is only the fifth episode, so making qualitative comparisons and pronouncements at this point seems a bit strange, but I think this is the most enjoyable episode yet. I know I like it best, and in the end, I'm doing this for my own amusement more than anything else. This is the all-soundtrack edition of The Swinging Wake. You'll hear Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer, Yann Tiersen, Elliot Goldenthal, Howard Shore, and a myriad of mirthful surprises. What's that, you say? Oh, that's just me doing my impression of Leonard Maltin. Anyway. Kill the house lights and raise the curtain. It's showtime. | 4/15/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitIt's Daddy, S******d - Where's My Bourbon?! | In this episode we successfully integrate two new features: "Tinseltown B******t" "Ask Dr. Vertigo" Along with the "Word of the Day" and the usual schizophrenic cavalcade of gothic, industrial, and archaic tunes. ExplicitThe Spirits Are Received A Faldric Numbrage... | Episode II begins with me bitching about the Oscars; it's all downhill from there. You'll hear industrial, vampiric goth, rare recordings of the late, great Paul Frees, and my own miscellaneous musings on whatever comes to mind, along with a futile attempt to make more people into fans of anachronistic cowboy music. I found out at the last second that the program I've been using has a time limit of exactly 1 hour and 6 minutes per episode, so unfortunately my roommate's Word Of The Day segment was cut off, and will have to be postponed until the next episode. I'm beginning a new segment on the show called Ask Dr. Vertigo - he's kind of like Dear Abbey or any other advice columnist, only his advice isn't always sound. So if you have a problem, dilemma, difficult decision, or need advice for any reason, write to me: zoenecrosis@yahoo.com, and I'll forward your questions along to Dr. Vertigo, who will be more than glad to... help. Incidentally, I forgot to announce the last song I played on the show. I had to throw on something shorter than a minute. In case you're wondering, it's by Elliot Goldenthal, and it is called "Lestat's Tarantelle." Enough introduction. Has to be my favorite podcast
I do my own podcast, and I listen to a lot of shows for insight/education/inspiration, and this is the one I look forward to the most. Zoe has the ability to put together a quality show that includes variety, top notch production skills, personality and broad diversity. Everything from the wide spanning musical genres (that somehow connect in the most bizarre of ways), to 'Tinseltown Bullsh*t', to the strangely-out-of-place-but-yet-it-works 'Halo's Report.' Quality show through and through. Keep up the great work! Signed, Your #1 fan.
What a great suprise
I thought it was rare to have eclectic tastes that include Goth, Jazz, Metal, and numerous other sub genres. Not until I head the Swinging Wake did I feel that there were other kindred souls who enjoyed Cab Calloway, the Dorsey brothers, and Skinny Puppy. I was turned on to this pod cast by a recommendation by Chrome Skin Jesus from the Razor Blade Dance Floor. Thank you CSJ for the referral, and thank you Zoe for broadening my horizons.
Yay for Zoe!
When I heard that my friend Zoe had a Podcast, I had to check it out! Just like him, this is a wild, dark, zainy, and awsome-tastic mix of music and fun. I signed up for this immediatly and I suggest everyone else who likes good music do the same. Great intro too!
