Brilliant!
Herein lies a glimpse into the world of the performing classical vocalist: the opera singer appearing on stage nightly, traveling around and about and sometimes around the world, real people who listen to gospel, country & western, R&B, jazz, soul, and pop while showing the world with each performance the best of the music of the past still being relevant to today's workaday lifestyle and current events. Through his easy-going manner combined with a great measure of wisdom, brevity, and common sense, Charles Reid in each episode of 'This Opera LIfe' opens for the Joe-on-the-Street a window into the lives of opera singers, gaining insights from his guests only a consummate interviewer, being an operatic singer himself, can while empathizing with and bringing out the best in those with whom he converses.
Combine all that with exquisite post-productiion editing and sound clean-up, and you have a podcast that, after but six weeks 'on-the-air', is beginning to be noticed on an international scale, as it so richly deserves to be. I look forward to it each and every week.
I have known Charles Reid since 1991, it being my first year (and his last) at Houston Baptist University. Twenty years ago, it was abundantly-clear to all us fellow school-mates Chuck was on his way to great things. 'This Opera LIfe' is a testament to how well he has done and the respect he has so rightfully garnered over a kaleidoscopic career that has only just begun its full flowering. Bravo!
Fantastic!
This is a great podcast and gives one a glimpse of how opera singers live. While listening to the interview with Lori, Chuck mentioned he mowed his grass for the first time and was thrilled...I know exactly how he feels. I remember being in Memhpis, TN singing Calaf and had a few days off so I flew home to Chicago and as soon as I arrived, I mowed the grass, took the dogs out for a walk and cleaned up the yard and thourghly enjoyed it. People often ask where I go for vacation and what I do for vacation and my answer is sitting at home watching TV and playing with my dogs. That is vacation for me. Thanks Chuck for this podcast and I look forward to hearing it weekly.
Great Podcast
As an opera singer, this podcast is wonderfully insightful and endearing. It humanizes these performers and their experiences in pursuing their dreams and appeals to both those in the profession and those who enjoy opera. Thank you Chuck.
