VFTQ going on an indefinite holiday | After much thought, I've decided to announce that View From The Quad, which at this point is a show over 5 years old, has to go on holiday for an indefinite period. I'm finding myself less and less excited to be doing the show each week, and time constraints are becoming tighter and tighter as I aim to become more and more involved with the multiple award winning DCUfm over the next year, hopefully taking a management position. Due to my involvement with DCUfm, I can promise you that this is not the last you will hear of Cian. VFTQ might be back, and I will hopefully post the odd bit of audio ever few weeks, maybe some stuff from Dragon*Con next September. There is a final episode, but it ends abruptly as I realise that not only is a leaf strimmer outside p*****g me off, but I'm no longer enjoying doing the show. Thanks for listening, thanks for making this great, and come back next time, here on View From The Quad. | 4/8/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

VFTQ 215 – Pay to stop the Terminators | View From The Quad 215 is FINALLY online, after several weeks of nothingness. For this I apologise. Today on the show, I have a rather long list of topics covered. We have how teens are using tampons to get drunk, a laptop thief who didn't count on the owner having an online backup solution and robotic clouds. We also have pirates which are offering discounts and how The Robots now can tell when you aren't paying them attention. Scary stuff. There are a few other stories mixed in there as well, so get listening! Remember: This show runs (mostly) on YOUR donations! If you like what you hear here and want more of the same, head over to www.ViewFromTheQuad.com and leave a donation! It can be any amount you want, or a monthly â¬2 subscription. Thanks! VFTQ 214 – Panel on the iPad 2 | On this week's episode of View From The Quad, I decided to have a bit of a chat about the iPad 2, after Garageband crashed and lost my usual show. A whole load is debated here, as I had one pro-iPad 2 panelist (Stu Helm from the International Mac Podcast) and one anti-iPad 2 panalist (Irish photographer, Lette Maloney) on the show. VFTQ 213 – Interrupted by a Shuttle Launch | View From The Quad is best taken fresh from www.ViewFromTheQuad.com Today on the show, we have a rather huge amount of Science stories, and very few Science Fiction ones, if any. But if that is your thing, you'll LOVE it! It's great. Stories include how Caffeine makes us easier to persuade, how an author is having his s**t made into a new lifeform, how fuel can be made from plastic bags and a whole lot more. Like, loads more, mate. Loads. Remember: This show runs (mostly) on YOUR donations! VFTQ 210 – Cian News Bonanza | VFTQ should be downloaded and enjoyed from www.ViewFromTheQuad.com Hello! You! I haven't seen you in AGES! It's GREAT to see you! Awh! This week, VFTQ is a mostly Cian-News-Show. Very little world news at all, although there is a bit of tech chat thrown about the place. Reviewed in the show are many pieces of media. Tron: Legacy, The Way Back, GEIST (Written by great friend of the show, Pip Ballantine), 127 Hours, Confessions of a Conjuror by Derren Brown and a few other bits and bobs. Also, I talk a bit about the projects I have been working on that have resulted in me not having time to record and I mention some cool announcement or other that I don't actually make. VFTQ 209 – Podcasting while on a legal high | Whoa... Dude... This is like so... decongestany! VFTQ 208 – Slapped with Science | VFTQ should be downloaded at www.ViewFromTheQuad.com This week on the show, we have a rather science-heavy topic load. Also, a bit of chat about TV up at the front. And I accidentally lied in the intro. Sorry about that! Topics covered on the show include how NASA has found a new type of life (This Changes EVERYTHING!), some rather cool and scary sounding research the Chinese are doing and how Facebook are attempting to trademark the word Face. Online, at least. Also, a whole slew more! VFTQ 207.5 – Occam’s Barbershop 006 | So, I feel a little bit guilty about not giving you an episode of VFTQ this week, and that 40 second video doesn't make me feel much better. So how about an episode of Occam's Barbershop, my other podcast/radio show? Subscribe free at www.OccamsBarbershop.com to get every episode delivered to you free as we get them uploaded, or listen LIVE at www.DCUfm.com each Friday from 2PM to 3PM Irish time! Occam's Barbershop is a weekly program on DCUfm, which is podcasted here. New episodes are broadcast live from the heart of the DCU campus online at www.DCUfm.com (http://www.dcufm.com/) on Fridays from 2PM until 3PM. This week on the show, we talk to co-founder of Irish Skeptics in the Pub, Rebecca O'Neill, about the Pub-attending atheists, among many other deathly important matters, such as what sort of funeral she would like and whether she thinks Irish Education is out of place with it's religion studies. She then foolishly agrees to take part in the now world-famous Occam's Quiz, and makes a heroic effort to win the grand prize. It should be noted that we REALLY want YOU to take part in the weekly quiz! If you feel like giving it a shot, send us an email at TheBarbers@OccamsBarbershop.com (mailto:TheBarbers@OccamsBarbershop.com) and we will vet you for inclusion in the show! We are attempting to get our hands on a cool prize. One thing to be noted is that you will have to be free between the times of 2PM and 3PM on the Friday that we have you on the show. We look forward to hearing from you! | 15 | VideoNo VFTQ this week, instead have this Snowpocolypse video report. [Take 2] | If you are having issues with the video downloading slowly in the flash player, please be aware that I am working on this with my content distribution network. It should download like the clappers if you simply download the file though. Edit 2 - I have replaced the flash player with a HD YouTube player instead, until we get this sorted out. No episode of View From the Quad this week because I'm tired out. Instead, have some front-of-the-line reporting on the snowpocolypse 2.0 from DCU! Filmed in iPhone 4 HD, a little bit shaky, but fun none-the-less. Interesting fact: Every single thing about this video, other then the uploading, was done on the iPhone. Recording, editing, all done in iMovie on the iPhone. I'm rather impressed, myself! | 11/29/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

VFTQ 207 – Nothing political at all, except cheese | View From The Quad should be downloaded from www.ViewFromTheQuad.com and nowhere else, you scoundrel! This week on View From The Quad, we have a rather packed show for you, including something that hasn't been on the show in a fair while, rambling and story telling! (Not fiction, but still, we are getting there!) In news stories, we cover how Facebook can trigger asthma attacks, how Richard Branson will serve as an air hostess (note 'hostess'. I explain in the show.), I tell you how mad the TSA searchings are getting (in the show, I'm not quite sure what TSA stands for. Turns out TSA is a Polish hard rock and heavy metal band.), the single biggest threat to net neutrality, why you just can't stop at a single slice of cheese, whether 4Chan may have finally met their match, and much more! VFTQ 204 – Halloween | VFTQ 204 should be downloaded from www.ViewFromTheQuad.com in order to get the full tasty and vibrant VFTQ experience. Or the RSS feed works too. Basically, and I never thought I would have to say this, don't pirate the show. Because it's free anyway. I mean, what's the point? Jeeze.... This week on View From The Quad, it's halloween! I'm joined in-studio by Charlie, who has been on the show three times before, I believe. We discuss important issues such as the Rally for Restoring Sanity And/Or Fear, how Limewire has been handed a court injunction and how this effects the few pirates still using the service, how proof of water has been found on Mars, Spanish prostitutes, one of the more ridiculous Apple rumours either of us have heard and much more. CleanVFTQ 202 – Congressman kicks child in face | Download VFTQ at www.ViewFromTheQuad.com This week on VFTQ we cover a whole mine-load of topics, each one lovingly guided out of a small hole from over 2KM below the surface of the earth. I talk about the ongoing controversy in the Jailbreaking community, we have nutjob physicists, Valve announcing DOTA 2 and I explain why Airplane food tastes so terrible (that's right, there is a scientific reason for it). I also catch up with Damien Mulley who organized the Irish Web Awards (along with doing a whole lot of other rather impressive stuff) and I brought my microphone along to the special VIP launch of the Science Gallery's 'Green Machines' show. And, of course, so much more you wouldn't believe it. I can't. Remember: This show runs (mostly) on YOUR donations! VFTQ 200 – Facts that will blow your mind, man! | VFTQ should be downloaded at your very whim from www.ViewFromTheQuad.com. Today on the show, VFTQ starts a new life as a Podcast-cum-Radio show. This means very little to YOU, the VFTQ Podcast Subscriber, other then the fact that your version of the show will probably be about 10 minutes longer then you are used too. So basically, you get more show. Nothing to be worried about! It also means that if you so wish, you can tune into DCUfm (http://www.DCUfm.com) every Monday from 2 until 3 (PM) to hear a slightly edited version of VFTQ with some bangin' tunes. As the cool kids say. Topics covered today are a Judge telling a man to make a pilgrimage for abusing a Garda, how your child can dominate the universe with his own tech-mech, using technology to help the school starting process, how Activision-Blizzard and the White House are building a relationship to make American schoolchildren smarter, the Ig Nobel Awards 2010 and some facts that will blow your mind. Today on VFTQ, I spent some time with author Mike Bennett, who is currently podcasting his vampire novel Underwood and Flinch. You may also know him from One Among the Sleepless, Hall of Mirrors and his infrequent Sometimes show. We chat about the writing process, he interviews me for a small bit, we discuss the IRMA file sharing situation and a hell of a lot more. Then, we do an audio tour of the local grocery store, as Mike buys dinner. Enveloping stuff! Sponsor: Solve technical issues faster with GoToAssist Express. VFTQ 189 – Dublin Pride Festival | This episode of View From The Quad should be downloaded at www.ViewFromTheQuad.com Hi all! Firstly, thanks for all the wonderfull support throughout the Leaving Cert. Know that every email you sent me pushed me along a tiny tiny bit more. Let's just hope it was enough! Now, down to work. This episode of View From The Quad is a special event. I bring you, the Dublin Pride Festival 2010! Join me in the parade as I chat to a few flaming homosexuals (such as the wonderful Alan Costello), watch some prancing drag queens (such as Panti) and am utterly befubbled by some very VERY strange dance routines! This episode comes in a very long one, so sit back and enjoy, possibly in several sections. Now, as I mentioned, a lot of the audio I recoreded (I would imagine well over half) was not usable, as there wasn't really anything to hear other then loud thumpy music. However, on listening to my hellish attempts to describe what madness was going on before me, I have decided that I can not allow this stuff go to waste. Seriously, you will never hear me as confused again. So, I have uploaded all 130mb of it, the ENTIRE concert, and you can download it at the link below. Enjoy my commentary! If you enjoy this episode of View From The Quad, please consider donating some money to your local GLBT support group. They deal with a lot of crap, and seriously need the support. This episode of View From The Quad is my little way of helping out some people I have gotten very friendly with over the years, and they do NOT deserve the crap that they have to deal with on a daily basis. But if you listen to View From The Quad, you already know my views on that. VFTQ 185 – Mike Bennett takes over | VFTQ can, and should, be downloaded from ViewFromTheQuad.com, or the sheep gets it. And you know what THAT means! Today, the most wonderful and talented Mike Bennett brings his own brand of horror to View From The Quad. The type that both makes you scream and laugh. (Don't worry, he has a soundbyte as an example. It will all make sense.) You may know him from such wonderful novels as One Among The Sleepless and Underwood and Flinch, not to mention his short story collection, Hall of Mirrors, and his irregular audioblog, Sometimes. On this episode of View From The Quad, it would be a bit of a shame to spoil what he speaks of. But expect a wonderful reading of The Quest, by Saki. "Mike Bennett grew up in London and Windsor and spent many years in Brighton where he wrote his first novel, 'One Among the Sleepless.' He published 'One Among the Sleepless' through his own company, Seed Publishing, in 2002. He moved to Ireland where he podcast 'One Among the Sleepless' from 2006 - 2007, then his short story collection , 'Hall of Mirrors' from 2007 - 08. He is currently writing his second novel, 'Underwood and Flinch' which he is also currently podcasting. He is married and lives in Ireland." Remember: This show runs on YOUR donations! | 39 | CleanVideoSmallest Ever 4 Track Recording Studio | Note: this has now been removed from the VFTQ feed and the file has been moved to a slightly slower server. It might take a bit of buffering time. So, as those of you who follow me on Twitter (http://twitter.com/cianmm) will know, I recently got ahold of a Zoom H4n. I promptly purchased a rather small bag, and have managed to fit everything required for an almost-four-track recording setup in it. (I say almost, because I couldn't fit a second studio mic in the bag, but lets be honest. When will I ever need four microphones while out on the road?) All in all, while I have not yet managed to give the Zoom H4n a full tryout yet, it seems to be pretty damn awesome. It's true test will come in September, when I'm off to Dragon*Con. | 6/1/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

VFTQ 184 – SirJolt takes over, makes fool of self [EXPLICIT] | This week on VFTQ, my good tweeter-friend, Marc McEntegart takes over, with a friend or two. This is what he emailed me: "Since I'm the internet version of a gypsy, my most recently hosted blog has gone down (again), so I'll leave you just with the Twitter account @SirJolt (http://twitter.com/SirJolt). Adam, the charming man who accompanied me for our tour on ViewFromTheQuad(Bike) can be found at @AtomCan (http://twitter.com/atomcan). He's a better man than me, though his updates be somewhat fewer. The various different opening themes were put together on the spot by Adam and my younger brother, who you can find on Twitter as @Quadramind (http://twitter.com/Quadramind). Today on the show I discuss how US Kids are considered too fat to fight and how this scares the military, how Pope Benny the 16th is worried about the effects the internet is having on society, how my Leaving Cert is going (OH NOES!) and how a missing Soviet robot has been found on the moon. (Yes, they knew it was somewhere on the moon. I'm not pretending that it just showed up there.) VFTQ 179 – Diary of a Homeless man | If you prefer your fiction in text, check out my blog, where I blogged the text (http://www.scodio.com/?p=435) of this composition. This week, I have started off this blogging idea I had a while back where 6th years would post their Leaving Cert Mock compositions for all to see, either as podcasts or blogs. I tweeted about it yesterday, and Aimee O'D (http://aimeeod.wordpress.com/2010/03/21/composition/) beat me to it, and there is a link to her wonderful piece below. Check it out! And if you want to join the fun, post your Leaving Cert English Mock composition on your blog and send me an email. I will link to you! The rules are simple: You can edit spelling and grammar, but nothing else. Don't change the bones of what you wrote on that horrible mocktacular day! This week, VFTQ is in aid of a friend of mine, Joel McKeever, who is heading out to South Africa to build a school for HIV orphans, with Slà Eile. To do that he needs to raise â¬3,500, which is a damn near insane amount of money. Please donate what you can to him through Paypal, at http://www.mycharity.ie/event/joel_anthony_loll-mckeevers_event , and email him at joelmckeever@hotmail.com (mailto:joelmckeever@hotmail.com) for information on the pub quiz he is running in Slatterys pub on Capel Street, April 30th at 8.30pm and the poker tournament he is running in the Easter mid-term.
