ExplicitWicked Chops Podcast: Talking Bitar and Tilt | We recorded a two-parter podcast yesterday. Part I is now live and discusses The Rise and Fall of Ray Bitar (http://insider.wickedchopspoker.com/246/in-other%e2%80%99s-words-the-rise-and-fall-of-ray-bitar/) WCi feature with its author, Dave "F-Train" Behr (http://ftrain.blogspot.com/). In it, F-Train details the interview process for the feature, as well some conclusions that could be drawn about the man who helped make Full Tilt Poker the giant it once was. Read the Bitar piece (by signing up for Insider) here (http://insider.wickedchopspoker.com/246/in-other%e2%80%99s-words-the-rise-and-fall-of-ray-bitar/). We've included some excerpts from the feature after the jump as well. Part II of the podcast--a panel discussion all about The Walking Dead--will go up later today. On the start of Full Tilt Poker... “James” Ex-Full Tilt Technology Ray Bitar was not an especially impressive executive. When Howard Lederer was president of Tiltware, it was hard to tell that Ray was CEO [for early hires like myself] as most people assumed that Howard was in charge and Ray took his orders from Howard. At the very least Ray seemed careful not to make any decision, no matter how trivial, without getting Howard’s input and buy-in. Part of this is that Howard was far more technically oriented than Ray, and in a company that is primarily a software development company, Howard was able to better understand the technology. On working for Ray Bitar... “Dave” Ex-Full Tilt Marketing [Ray] couldn’t confront somebody about something. He had a hard time with that. Say you’re his employee and you f**k up. He’s either not going to say anything or just completely blow up. He’s not going to pull you aside and say, “Hey this is what you’re doing wrong. Can you recognize this. Can you fix this. Can you do better at this.” He had no middle ground on that kind of stuff. “Albert” Ex-Full Tilt Management Ray was an “absentee micromanager.” On the downfall... “Peter” Ex-Full Tilt Pro I’ve known Ray a long time. I’ll just say that Ray is not a thief, he was just in way over his head. | 11/30/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitWicked Chops Podcast: Breaking Down Tilt-Tapie, MGM-Bwin.Party, Industry Action | New Wicked Chops Podcast is now up on iTunes and embedded in this post. We're joined by Dave "F-Train" Behr. After a quick look at the 2011 WSOP final table and Poker Hall of Fame voting, we breakdown the bevy of industry deals the past few weeks. Some highlights: * Why the Tilt acquisition actually makes some economic sense for Groupe Bernard Tapie. * Why Boyd Gaming might be involved in the MGM-Bwin.party partnership. * Why Fertitta Interactive went for a change in direction by acquiring Cyberarts. F-Train always makes a good guest, and there's a lot of information packed in under an hour. As F-Train would say, "Pop pop!" | 11/6/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitWicked Chops Podcast: Terrible Tuesday | On the latest Wicked Chops Podcast, we're joined by poker lawyer/"journalist" Dave "F-Train" Behr to discuss the amended civil charges issued Tuesday against Full Tilt Poker Board of Director members Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson, Ray Bitar, and Rafe Furst. Key discussion points include: * What exactly the amendment means--and why it was issued as a civil complaint versus criminal charges. * Why the other FTP shareholders were NOT named (yet). * Why Terrible TuesdayTM feels dirtier than The Events of 4/15TM. * Did someone flipping lead to Tuesday's amendment? * Why the mainstream media is mislabeling the charges as a "ponzi scheme" instead of what Tilt really is--a poorly company that shouldn't have issued dividend payments after facing payment processing issues. * Is this the end of Tilt? ExplicitWicked Chops Podcast with John Pappas | It's possible we've been critical (http://wickedchopspoker.com/the-ppa-still-doesn%e2%80%99t-get-it-reshaping-the-online-poker-regulation-message/) of the PPA in the past. While we've always applauded the ease which the PPA enables the public to communicate with their representatives, we haven't been fans of their overall communications in selling the online poker regulation message. However, recently it seems like they've moved closer towards the "hey, this will create tax revenue and jobs" message we've been championing for awhile and have managed to stay relevant since Black Friday (easier said than done). So joining us for our latest podcast to address how the PPA is adapting and evolving in a post-4/15 world is Executive Director John Pappas. We cover the PPA's messaging, how the group has coped with Black Friday, what they're doing to assist regulatory passage of legalized online poker, and what the chances are that regulation occurs soon. Listen in below or download the podcast on iTunes. And to join the PPA, go here (https://theppa.org/join/). | 9/8/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitIvey’s White Knight Deal Almost Done + Full Tilt Poker Podcast | The LA Times broke a story last night (http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-online-poker-20110701,0,6054543.story) that Full Tilt Poker had sold to a group of European Investors (i.e. Ivey's White KnightTM). Like Jason Biggs hopping in the sack with Shannon Elizabeth, the story jumped the gun a bit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCnsQdPsgZ4). According to our sources, the deal is almost done, but it's not there yet. However, the Times did get it right in that Jack Binion is not involved in this purchase, as has been widely circulated. What still stands in the way of this being a done deal? First, more legal. Like most major acquisitions, this is a complicated deal. Unlike most completed deals, this one needs to wade through a bookkeeping nightmare, as well as shareholder and shell company ambiguity. Next, the Department of Justice will need to bless it as any deal needs to ensure that U.S. players will get their money back. Also, Full Tilt still needs a gaming license, you know, so it can operate its business. We don't want to paint a gloomy picture here, all signs point to the positive. But to paraphrase Winston Wolf, "let's not start sucking each other's dicks quite yet." We've been involved in enough deals over the years to know that a deal is not done until all contracts are signed and money has been wired. So how did the Full Tilt deal (potentially) (re)happen? Here's how we see it. [NOTE: THIS IS MOSTLY OUR SPECULATION] It's been widely reported that Phil Ivey was back in Dublin (http://wickedchopspoker.com/phil-ivey-in-dublin-meeting-with-tilt-execs-white-knight-deal-back-on/). He went there as discussions with his White Knight got put back on the front-burner. As talks rapidly progressed, Ivey dropped his lawsuit (can't have a lawsuit pending from a shareholder and face of the company if you--as an investor--are going to buy a company). One of the main reasons Tilt management (Ray Bitar, Howard Lederer) rejected the White Knight deal the first time was the majority control (or amount of it) the buyer wanted. With no other viable options left, and with the AGCC revoking Tilt's gaming license, Tilt management was essentially left with no other choice but to get this deal done. And that's where we're (almost) at. If everything eventually gets locked in and the deal is blessed by the DoJ and whoever is going to license Tilt in the future, you can bet that Phil Ivey will become the Patron Saint of the Poker WorldTM. With that out of the way, we recorded our first Wicked Chops Podcast yesterday with some friends from across the pond--Ben Fried, who launched Betfair's poker room--and Kim Lund, who did the same for Poker Room. While some of the content is already dated (a lot of it is speculation about Tilt's future in light of the AGCC license revocation), still some interesting European perspective on the Tilt situation and their international market perception. ExplicitMike Matusow Calls Phil Ivey a “Piece of Sh–” | Watch Mike Matusow Is Very Angry at Russ Hamilton on RawVegas.tv (http://www.rawvegas.tv/watch/mike-matusow-is-very-angry-at-russ-hamilton/4b11650fade94a70672b8353c69f59)Mike Matusow speaks his mind. They don't call him "The Mouth" for nothing. A few years ago, Matusow was the first major pro who really spoke out against (http://www.rawvegas.tv/watch/mike-matusow-is-very-angry-at-russ-hamilton/4b11650fade94a70672b8353c69f59) Russ Hamilton (above, classic). He was right on for doing so, even if some pros questioned his story. This week, Matusow took on Phil Ivey during an interview on The Hardcore Poker Show, who he called a "piece of s**t" for suing Tiltware (below clip). This time, while Mikey's anger is valid, it's directed at the wrong people associated with Full Tilt. Phil Ivey isn't the one who didn't mix player and operational funds. And Phil Ivey wasn't the one who turned down a potential deal that could've paid back U.S. players and made the company financial viable again. Not saying that Ivey is a saint, but with dissension in the ranks at Tilt, he's not the one anger should really be directed at right now. | 6/9/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

ExplicitWicked Chops Podcast: Stars-Wynn, Poker Legalization + Idol | We go half and half on the latest Wicked Chops Podcast. In Part I, Jess Welman joins us to review the week's big poker headlines, including: :: The PokerStars-Wynn merger (and why it just may be the single biggest story in our industry since the UIGEA). :: Which online operators are bankrolled enough to get in on the brick & mortar merger trend (and what some other potential partnerships may be). :: Tournament Turf WarsTM :: Gus Hansen's hot new (rumored) girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki (http://wickedchopspoker.com/gus-hansen-has-hot-girlfriend/). In Part II, Trishelle Cannatella and Slim join us to talk this past week's American Idol where we discuss, among other things, if Stefano Langone has ever heard of the Internet, because if he had, then he would've known about the above photo, which may be one of the funniest things we've seen in 2011.
