I saw the whole movie
I watched this Independent film at a festival and was really moved by it. Its a dark movie about families, poor rural communities, and roughing it. The main character has to track down her druggie father who might be dead or alive. If she doesn't get him to court in time her family will lose their house. She has to reconnect with her kin around the Ozarks, and this is not a friendly family. I enjoyed the film overall, but its not an upbeat tale. Someone on here said they thought it would be like "The Lovely Bones" and let me tell you that its not.
Loved it!
I spent 5 weeks in the Appalachian Mountains this summer and came across a group of "HillBillies" jamming on a Saturday night. The building looked like an abandoned house but inside was about 40 people. I loved every minute. The people are so friendly and treat you just like you are family. The world needs to learn something from them. It was never about the prestige or the money. They had a love for people and music. Brings tears to my eyes when I reflect on those times. This documentary is easy to watch and very interesting if you like human interest stories. I love the way they mix in scenes of the mountains. I'm from the city but have been drawn to the mountains and the mountain people.
If you're looking for fast action you won't like this little film, but if you love listening to storytellers this one is great. Thanks, Karen
Hillbilly Up!
The posting of the title may be false advertising, but this movie is REAL! This is a background story to the people and the area of "Winter's Bone". As far as I'm concerned, this is the real story. The scenery is beautiful and the people are amazing. Subsistence in the hill country is hard and remains so today. Watch it and learn.
