Excellent Resource
I have trained in Chinese with the U.S. Department of State and have attended the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies Language Institutes and have found World Learner Chinese podcasts and texts on par with those training programs. There are actually aspects of the World Learner Chinese program that I prefer to the aforementioned programs. This is a really great resource and I am hooked. The iPod-friendly aspect puts it over the top. Cannot recommend more highly. I did note another reviewer's comment about accents, but as someone who has trained with only Beijing speakers in the past, I have found that the majority of Chinese I encounter do not speak the proper Mandarin that I was taught so dealing with accent of the male speaker is not a negative for me.
Excellent Vocabulary help
The vocabulary lessons are excellent. Useful vocabulary, excellent help for tones. PS: regarding the first commenter: a) It's helpful to have explanations in proper English, I can deal with his accented Chinese. Besides, the Chinese woman is the "real" teacher, he's more an assistant. b) "native Mandarin speaker": if you see it that narrowly, only a Beijing Chinese would do. Everybody else (including the majority of Chinese) would not be a native speaker.
Very Helpful
This will be my 1st trip to China and I feel a lot better knowing that I can now try to say a few phrases. They go slow and repeat the phrases multiple times. Another must have.
