ExplicitNine’s New Music 2/8/2012: Adam Cross | On this episode of Nine's New Music, we feature the track "Dance" from Sirens, the latest release by Adam Cross. From his Bio: A cast of drawn characters inhabits Sirens. It might the gorgeous girl with a cigarette and a glass of orange juice who shares her plans to depart a small town to pursue her dreams in “A Feeling.” On “Burning Castles,” Adam appropriates the image of a friend’s former fling, whom he describes as a “jaded, bi-polar, ex-girlfriend.” The song title “Dance,” offers an observation from the periphery of the dance floor, as the narrator observes the physical rhythms of a beautiful woman. “I’m gonna steal her,” he confides. “Lost” is drawn in sparse, essential language. “I wanted to see if I could use six words in the verses and somehow paint a picture for people without telling them what to think,” Adam says. A striking vulnerability underscores Adam’s songcraft. In person he is upbeat, verbal and outgoing, but his lyrics reveal deeper layers of contemplation and compassion. “I’m a little bit embarrassed by them sometimes,” he observes. “For the most part, I think it’s my therapy. And I think when I write something I feel, it’s true.” For more information about Adam Cross, go to his website Support the artists by buying their music through our Amazon or iTunes Links, located in the sidebar at wyrd101.com! ExplicitNow To Zen 1/30/2012: Strip ALL The Goals! | On this episode of Now To Zen: If you work in a job that measures your performance, then you spend a lot of time with metrics. Thresholds. Goals. Why are we doing the exact same thing in our personal lives? If our entire lives are measured by goals, then your life is defined at all times by the quantity, not the quality. So what happens if we strip out the biggest thing that leads to disappointment in our personal lives? What if we stop living by a goal oriented mindset? ExplicitNine’s New Music 1/25/2012: Shibuya Crossings | On this episode of Nine's New Music, we feature the track "At 8 In A Spanish Bar" by London based Shibuya Crossings. Their latest release "DOYA" (Depend On Your Alter-Ego) has been hailed as one of the sleeper albums of the year, and it's not a big mystery as to why. Just check the set’s first singles, the driving “Take it Out on Me” and “At 8 in a Spanish Bar,” the latter a riff-crunching tale of a comically doomed romantic encounter. Deeper—but no less stunning—cuts include the yearning “The Things We Say, We Don’t Always Mean,” which plays like some mysterious, minor-key Hüsker Dü inversion, and the closing ballad “Wonder Inside,” a moving meditation on regret and “realizing what’s important in life.” Shibuya Crossings, whose name is a reference to Tokyo’s infamous nightlife district (shibuya translates as “bitter valley”), was formed in 2006 by Declan after the breakup of his previous band, Jude. As Jude was coming to a close, by himself Declan began recording Songs for Lovesick Teenagers, Shibuya Crossings’ debut on the band’s Typically Magic label, with the assistance of producer Richard Knowler. Rob, Ian, and New Zealand guitarist Gareth Evans were recruited for the live lineup just prior to the album’s release, and the singles “Typically, Everybody Thinks You’re Dead” and “Can You Prove Something to Me” drew swift critical acclaim and airplay on BBC Radio 1 and XFM and Ireland’s 2FM. The quartet hit the road, playing extensively across the UK and Ireland.
