Wow
I was totally psyched to find this pod cast and then he opened his mouth. The Pod cast I listened to was pod cast 002, and in it he ruminated about his life and experiences. While contemplateing on the fact that the flag is soo mistreated at his sons school he actually had a major brain fart and said "What do you expect it is run by women. Women weren't trained to have respect for the flag." I found this kind of thinking particularly offensive, and stupid. I can't belive someone who is proporting himself to be enlightend and in the top two percentile of the world I.Q. wise would deteriorate into this sexist, generalizing behavior. Shame on you "Master" Zhen. I won't be listening again.
It gets even better...reply to goddessjuno
I was also excited to see these podcasts due to my interest both in martial arts and Zen, but red flags (no pun intended) were going up everywhere while I was listening. Out of curiosity, I listened to all of them, and in later podcasts, he goes into long tirades against women, and blames women for the problems in our current society because women are not agreeable to his view that women were made to be subservient to men and focus soley on raising children, as women are entirely driven by feelings while men are the logical masters. He also has the view that many men today are really women inside because they allow women to run their lives, and do not uphold his view that men are as God and should be the master over women and everything else.
I do feel compassion for this "Master Zhen" or "Buddha Zhen" (as he calls himself in later podcasts)though. During the podcast, he was undergoing his second failed marriage (sadly not too surprising given his above views) and seems to hold a lot of resentment and unhappiness within himself that I hope he is eventually able to work through.
These podcasts do have entertainment value, but when it comes to actual Zen teachings, I'd go elsewhere.
Zen is the ability to see the truth.
The truth is like looking at a tree. Depending upon the direction you are looking, you don't see many other views of the tree. Some people may see the tree in shade. Others may see the tree with sun sparkling leaves. My views change, my opinions change. More information is what creates more enlightenment. More viewpoints reveal more of the truth. It has been amusing to hear Buddhists complaining that they cannot even accept other viewpoints as valuable. Open your minds and see through the eyes of others--if you want to be Zen. Thanks to all of you out there, for at least listening to my understandings and viewing the world through my mind. Love, Zhen Shen-Lang
