Off to a good start

Ni hao! While Ni Hao, Kai-Lan had a good debut season, the second season is off to a really strong start. It's made a bunch of departures from the first season, such as more songs, and the lessons in the songs not sharing the same beat/instrumental track. This season also changes things up with Kai-Lan's Big Surprise in which the viewer needs to help Kai-Lan. Another episode, The Dinosaur Balloon, Rintoo takes over the narrative and the viewer must work together with him to get Stompy to help Kai-Lan fix the dinosaur balloon. My biggest beef with the first season was how Rintoo was always the one needing help, so it's nice to see it starting off more balanced with characters needing help. The voice acting has improved so much, Jade-Lianna Peters' Chinese sounds less forced and more natural. The same can be said for singing. In the Season 1 episode Rain or Shine, when Rintoo, Tolee and Hoho sing together, they all sound like they're singing in different keys, resulting in an ear-shattering mess. It's like only one year made such a huge difference for everyone. Like any cartoon, the animation improves so much with the second season since the animation crew has a better understanding of models. This season is off to a great start, and I can't wait to see how the rest of it fares. It is guaranteed to make your child's heart feel super happy! Zai jian!

Moon Festival Episode is NA dub - voices are right!

My 2 yr old son is in love with this tv show. It has bright colors, songs, and perky voices that grab and hold his attention. In addition to teaching children social graces, it also teaches simple words in Chinese.

I was excited to find that there is season 1 and 2 available for download on I-tunes, and I wanted to note that the Dragonboat episode from season 1 that I downloaded was the UK dub, and that all of the characters had british accents, which was pretty odd. I downloaded the Moon festival episode from season 2 however, and it has the North American voices that we are used to watching on Nick Jr.

I hope that they continue to put up more episodes of this great show for preschoolers, and that I-tunes will somehow let us preview episodes or simply list what dub they are before we download them and waste 1.99!!!
