Description
Based on the comic book created by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada, Painkiller Jane is the story of Jane Vasco (KRISTANNA LOKEN), a DEA agent who is recruited by a covert government organization tasked with capturing “Neuros” – genetically-enhanced individuals who possess superhuman powers of the mind. During the course of her first investigation with the team, Jane inexplicably discovers that she too possesses extraordinary abilities – abilities that render her impervious to injury…but not pain. She develops miraculous regenerative powers, healing from every injury and finding herself stronger than she had been before. As she continues to work with the government to hunt Neuros, Jane tries to uncover the cause of her own transformation and what – if any – connection she shares with the very people she is pursuing.

Another failed Sci-Fi Channel show.
Sci-Fi channel has had a really bad track record with originally produced shows. Besides that, it also has a really bad habit of canceling good and critically acclaimed shows before they are allowed to get off the ground (Invisible Man) or at the peak of their success (Farscape). This is not the case. Save its' recent successes, Sci-Fi channel has had a string of one season misfires. This is another in a long list. First off the show has very little to do with the Comic Book from which the basic premise was taken (that I don’t really mind & kinda expected). They instead take an original concept and slap a generic sci-fi template on it mixed in with cliche’ story lines and dreadful and completely un-original writing. That combined with the caliber of acting on par with that of your typical upstate mediocre community theater group, save Kristianna Loken. Not because she is good, but because she frankly makes William Hung look Oscar worthy. Her deadpan monotone and passionless performance frankly makes me wince in everyone of her scenes. The characters are unlikable and frankly I found myself rooting for their demise. Painkiller Jane is a poor attempt at being a hip and provacative sci-fi cop drama. It does have one redeeming quality though, its slightly better than Flash Gordon.
Good Show
A. This show certainly is not as bad as some reviewers would like you to think. B. This show isn't as good as 5 stars. It's based on a graphic novel, and is fun, and enjoyable to watch. Due to some of the graphic violence, in my opinion, it's not a pre-teen show. If you watch more than one episode, you get involved with trying to solve the not too subtle mystery surrounding Jane, and the true nature of whom she works for. It's worth a watch if you are a comic, and/or sci-fi fan. The show has promise. My real rating is 3.5 stars, but I rounded it up.
Blah
As much as I used to adore Loken, this show is just plain bad. This is the type of show that encourages you to turn off the TV and read. Sci-fi should pay US to watch this show, not the other way around. You've been warned...
