GPS for your WIFI iPad!

Here's how it works:
1. Turn on the Personal Hotspot on your iPhone
2. Connect your iPad to the Personal Hotspot
3. Start AirLocation on your iPhone and iPad
4. AirLocation on your iPad will now track your location based on GPS data provided by your iPhone.

Important: GPS data is transferred only between the AirLocation Apps! Other Apps wont receive any data from AirLocation.
I know it would be great to have that, but it's technically impossible to do so, sorry.
"We've previously reported that the Wi-Fi iPad 2 gained GPS powers when tethered to an iPhone but we were wrong. You'll need an app like AirLocation to get it working properly. "
"For $0.99, you get bare-bones GPS for your Wi-Fi iPad that works as advertised. Who’s in?"
"I’ve personally tested the application during a 20-minute car trip to Viterbo, my town, and it really works as advertised"
"... for those of you convinced about the joys of tethering a Wi-Fi iPad, this app costs a single, solitary buck."

Doesn't provide location data to other nav apps

I had high hopes for this, but I just tested it and the location data stops flowing from the iPhone to the iPad as soon as AirLocation on the iPad is backgrounded. This means you can't use the location data with any of the turn-by-turn navigation apps. Bummer! If an update comes out which actually writes the location data to the iPad's location services for other iPad apps to use, I'll update my review.

I can't confirm or deny whether the location data is cellular triangulated or true GPS location data since any intervention between the two AirLocation apps stops the location data flow.

Fingers crossed for an update with a workaround.

Basically worthless

it does appear to pass gps info and it passes it to the ipad when on the same network so you don't have to be using personal hotspot.

The problem with this app is that it only allows you to use the mapping program that the author put in the app which is a stripped down version of google maps and is basically worthless. It does NOT allow you to provide gps location to any other app and probably never can unless it becomes a jail broken app.

Decent idea but low rating because of authors pathetic and deceptive description.

Good proof of concept... But lacks features.

This app is a good proof of concept, accurately displaying your location on a map while tethered to your iPhone, but the problem is that's all the app does! No navigation, no directions, and not even a satellite view. So, essentially this is a stripped down version of the Maps app, oh, and without GPS Data (cellular triangulation). Would be a 5 if all the above issues were resolved, but as of now, it's definitely a 3, and I think I'm being a bit generous.
