Overall not a bad app
I’ve only had the app for about a month and so far, I haven’t had the issues others have had. That being said, I do have a couple of problems with the app. The first problem is that it doesn’t give you all the shows “playing now” if you want to watch live. You have to go to the guide to get all the shows playing. I have many channels marked “favorite” in the guide and under the view all shows available for watching live filter, only half of those channels are given to choose from. The second problem is the recording option. I understand this feature is in beta testing right now but DirectTV NOW needs to fix what is, at least to me, a problem in this feature. I’ve used the recording feature twice on the same show. The first time I recorded an episode, the app missed the first five minutes of the episode but recorded five minutes past the end of the episode. The next time I used the recording feature, the app started recording eight minutes BEFORE the scheduled episode started and then it cut off BEFORE the episode ended. I have this feature scheduled to record again one more time. It will be interesting to see how this recording turns out. I’m giving this app ⭐️⭐️⭐️because, overall, it does what it’s supposed to do; I just wish it would do it better than average because it has the potential to be better than average.
A few months ago we signed up for the ATT plan that gave us this DIRECTV NOW APP. When we first started watching it there were no problems. It worked like a dream. We were happy with the tv lineup. As of over a week or so ago, when we start watching our programs it closes on our tv. We have it tethered to our Vizio tv with a special cord (my hubby knows but I can’t remember). I think it’s called an HDMI CORD. But the app would freeze on us about 3-4 minutes into the program, and then our tv wouldn’t detect a signal so it shut down too. So we would start up again, and the same thing kept happening. It got so annoying we tried different things to get it worked out, but nothing better happened. We deleted the app and started it back up. Didn’t work. Bought new cords. Started back up, didn’t correct it. And you are right, there is no customer service except the CHAT. if this is true, that Directv owns ATT(???) then I will be choosing a new provider for my phone service as well as tv plan. We bought this plan because we were going to be traveling in our camper and would not always have a good antenna service, so we would be able to use our phone service for watching the programming. Sounded like an excellent deal. And it was for about 2 months....very disappointing.
A STERN WARNING!
I’m going to keep posting bad reviews until AT&T and DirecTV stop selling this scam of a service or are forced by the FCC and U.S. Attorney General to fix the app and make full refunds to all who fell for the lie. I urge anyone considering this service to stop and read the reviews here and online. You won’t be sorry. You WILL be sorry of you allow yourself to be scammed. This service relies on the app to work properly. It doesn’t. BE AWARE! If you are even able to sign in, expect the picture to freeze every few minutes. Expect for the app to constantly crash. Expect that the sound will not always be in sync with the picture. Expect that you will suddenly lose picture and see a message telling you to please choose something else to watch. Expect that you won’t get through a single program without an issue. Expect very little from this service and from DirecTV. Expect no help from the DirecTV help site or AT&T, other than them telling you to uninstall and reinstall the app every time that you go to their live chat only means of assistance. Expect absolutely NOTHING to be done to improve the service. It’s big corporate America who is accountable to NO ONE! If you want to file a formal complaint with the FCC, expect to pay a fee of $235. Though an informal complain is free to file, it’s basically useless. If you enjoy frustration and wasting your money, then DirecTV Now might just be for you!
