Ratings and Reviews
Excellent player with one major flaw
There’s definitely a lot to like here. Being able to sort books by Played/Unplayed to keep books I’m listening to at the top is one feature I’ve wanted for so long that makes finding a book easier. Seeing the percentage completed is also nice and makes tracking my progress on GoodReads easier. Landscape mode is fantastic and is great for the car, Night Mode is gorgeous and True Black is even better. Cloud import is the best feature here, allowing me to keep my books on iCloud Drive and import when I want without needing to hook up with iTunes. Brilliant!
However, the biggest and largely annoying bug is when disconnecting from Bluetooth, it automatically pauses but it doesn’t always pause at the right spot. I had it jump some 30 minutes or more in the past and had to figure out where I was. So far it only happened once but seeing other reviews mention it makes me nervous. Not a deal breaker but could be if it happens too often.
Developer Response ,
Thanks for the report! This could be two things: 1) an actual Bluetooth-related bug (I am working with users on it specifically in the 1.3 beta now - email me at mike@cesium-app if you’d like to join), but 2) I always try to remind users that *if* you are using DRM protected content (like an audible purchase), progress can not be tracked while the app is in the background, and I encourage using the in-app controls to manage playback which will ensure progress is saved.
Great Player, But...
Has a great interface, good controls.
My main problem with this app is when I pause it on Bluetooth, it randomly goes back to a previous point in the book, usually around 30 min. Reading the reviews I see that I’m not the only person experiencing this.
This is annoying, of course, and requires me to pull the phone out while I’m working and fiddle with it. I have written to the developer on this and another issue, and while he took care of the other issue quickly, this one remains. I have been using the previous version of the app which does not have this problem but I would like to use the most recent version with its updated look and features.
Update: Thanks for the response, Mr Clay. I have been observing the symptoms carefully. When one presses pause on the Bluetooth device, it continues to play; if pause is pressed again, it stops but resumes at an earlier position. This may be a failure or lag in responding to the command, then interpreting the second input as a rewind command. Sometimes, it will not resume playing until the app is opened (the phone unlocked) then it resumes immediately. This is likely not due to the media or the device as these symptoms never occur with Told, the previous app.

The issue may not be with the version of the app but the type of content being played. Is it a DRM-protected file? GreenLit automatically tracks progress of non-DRM content when in the background, but unfortunately this is not possible with DRM-protected files. It is strongly recommended that you use the controls *in* GreenLit to end playback to ensure progress is captured, especially for purchases/protected content. I realize this is inconvenient, and will provide a solution as soon as one becomes available. Thanks!
More stable than it used to be.
I’ve used every audiobook player app, and this one is the most aesthetically pleasing. It also offers most of the features that I need when I listen to audiobooks on the daily basis.
Siri Shortcuts feature is amazing and I use it with my daily commute shortcut.
The two biggest improvements that it needs are:
1. The ability to see how much time is in the current audiobook. I love that you include the % completed next to the title, because I use that to track my progress in Goodreads. But if it’s an 18 hour audiobook with multiple chapters, I can’t see how much time I have left.
2. Audio doesn't pick back up after I get a call or use Siri. I have to go back into the app and press play to resume. I previously used Bound Audiobook Player, and it always continues playing after an interruption.
Great work! If there is a TestFlight version of this, I’d be happy to test it out if you’re looking for candidates.
