Addictive with flaws
Update: After complaining to customer service about game not accurately tracking my wins and complaining about poor customer service, my letter/tile selection tanked. I went from winning about 80% of games to under 50%. The tiles are stacked against me. It's bizarre. I had already suspected that something was off with the tile draw. It's not so random. I notice the quality/score of letters are similar across all games I have going on.
If you like scrabble this is very addictive. Good features built in like the usable dictionary, shuffle, and moves list. Quite frequently I have to update the games manually and the app badge doesn't work. The one thing I vehemently dislike is the tile draw isn't completely random. For instance, in all six games I have going right now I have one or no vowels. Often it's the other way around. Why would they do this?
Long term technical issues
As a long time player, I am disappointed at the relatively low quality of the App. I've experienced configuration issues, and many identification problems logging in through Origin in the last year. This latest login authentication bug took weeks to fix, apparently stranding millions of users. My call to the help desk resulted in a callback the next day, just to be told that EA was aware of the problem but had no idea when a fix would be issued (it took 3 weeks!). I initially thought the issue was unique to me but now that my login has been restored I've learned that the whole Scrabble/Origin ecosystem was off-line!
Every update introduces new bugs which leads me to believe that software quality and regression testing are sub-par. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER EA!! WE DESERVE BETTER!!
A fistful of tiles…
•to quote pete Townsend, "the good's gone:" one again the Scrabble app won't log in. Oh well, even at its worst, Scrabble is way beyond WordFeud, Words With Friends, and any other imposters I've forgotten. And, I appreciate that TileTracker is listing "all the letters we can not see" (apologies to Anthony Doerr) and no more auto-recall.
•the bad… I wish we could still see a little info about recently completed games (e.g., consider allowing access to the last local game). Finally, please let us see teacher's advice regarding the last move of the game!
•…and the aesthetics (or hue?) of the interface: I really like the emphasis on red. A lot of scrabble is played in the middle of the night by people pretending it will help them get to sleep, so emphasizing warm colors (and minimizing blue light) is actually very important.
