Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. Facebook doesn’t run GPS in the background unless you give us permission by turning on optional features that require this.
What's New in Version 31.0
Thanks for using Facebook! To make our app better for you, we bring updates to the App Store every 2 weeks. You can update the app automatically (without checking back here) by going to Settings > iTunes & App Store > Automatic Downloads and turning on Updates.
Every update of our Facebook app includes improvements for speed and reliability. As other new features become available, we’ll highlight those for you in the app.
Many improvements needed
Overall, Facebook is generally acceptable as ways to pass time go, but for a company that does nothing except program what people see in their timeline, they have a long way to go to get it right. If a person "likes" a page, ofttimes they will only see 10% of the posts from that Facebook page. I guess Facebook realizes that it is hard for people to see everything from every liked page and everything from every friend. But rather than decide for people, it should let people decide what percentage of posts from each source they prefer to see. There could be a sliding bar from 0% to 100% for every friend and every liked page. And Facebook REALLY needs to stop forcing the timeline to the top the page just because some time has passed. I'm sure there are plenty of other improvements that should be made. Facebook just needs to run some focus groups to find out what the people want. After all, that is what really matters.
If you really want to know how you all can improve, here's your answer! STOP MAKING CHANGES ALL TOGETHER!!!!!! This new supposed improvement, doesn't help that this application is still going to get a one star rating on iTunes. I've requested multiple times to please put the feature back on our apps, where we can swipe down to mark notifications as read. Last time I checked, people start at the top and go down for their notifications and news feeds. This is, America, not China! I will be forced to eventually take the Facebook application off my iPad and to use the safari browser if adequate changes aren't made in a timely manner. So this app, gets a one star. If you want to make changes how about seriously making the application load faster even on a slow internet connection. It really lags bad on iPad 2, iOS 8.
Needs better support of albums
Update May 22: the new placement and behavior of Notifications is a blunder. The drop down menu allowed you to stay on the same page. The new format is disruptive as well as a waste of screen real estate. Why hamper the iPad with the iPhone's limitations? Docking another star as this inflicts such a negative impact on the viewing experience.
Update (3 stars): With this latest update, hardly any links open within the app any more. I have to fall back on the "open in Safari" option more often than not. [Update May 22: This seems to have improved but the other problems remain.]
The comments and likes for photo albums do not appear when you click on the notifications. All you get is the photos themselves. I don't need to see those. This has been broken for ages and severely limits the usefulness of albums.
Otherwise this app has vastly improved since early days when it was barely usable. The gap between the app and browser versions has narrowed considerably, but the treatment of albums and groups in the app lags way behind. I shouldn't have to keep backing out to the browser for basic functions.
