"Approximate time in traffic is 10 minutes"

I travel 1-1.5 hours, sometimes longer, to and from work everyday. I despise traffic with a passion and avoid it whenever possible. That's where this Waze comes in handy. It's a socially run GPS application that allows users to warn other drivers of all kinds of problems that plague travel such as hazards, weather, speed traps, accidents, traffic, etc. Prior to embarking on my journey, I pull up Waze and check the traffic along a number of routes to see which will have the least amount of traffic. Because this is socially run, I find this app will report traffic much quicker than most as you can manually enter in that you're in traffic, or the app will ask based on your average speed slowing down significantly. This has been a life saver. I don't know how often I've gotten off the highway to take side streets because of reports of traffic ahead or an accident, all possible with the "avoid freeways" option, to skip out on some horrendous traffic that I'll hear my coworkers got stuck in. Additionally, with the recent update, if traffic is unavoidable, the app will estimate how long you'll be stuck in traffic which I've been finding so far to be fairly accurate. This app also has saved me from a number of speeding tickets due to warnings of police and speed traps being reported. I could go on all day about this app, but suffice it to say, I never leave home without it!

Recent Updates Cause Concern

I found this app to be useful in making my travels safer and more enjoyable - as well as alerting me to speed traps so that I avoid traffic tickets. I do a lot of traveling, so this app is not only practical it is also fun. I like being part of a community that can share their experiences on the road.

I am concerned that recent updates are negatively affecting Waze. For one, the male voice with street names suddenly disappeared. Now the only options I have for a voice that gives street names in English is Jane (the female voice - and I do not care for another woman bossing me around) or Thomas from UK whose voice is annoying. Please bring back the male voice that also gives street names! The other English speaking voices do not give street names. Secondly, I could be assured that Waze would take me on the shortest route. However, that is no longer happening as frequently as it did before. Now, I find myself being directed more often on odd routes that take me longer than before or longer than other routes and Waze also does not seem to learn my preferred routes anymore.

As a result, my once unquestionable five star rating has been dropped down to a four star.

I recommend this to everyone

I love the features of this app but I think there are a couple of things that really need to change to make it even better: first off, when you select hazard, police, road construction, etc, it would be cool if it would mark it from where you first hit what you are reporting because if you happen to be going 70+ mph you could be a 1/4-1/2 mile away from what you are reporting and it marks it wrong on the map. So if it could tag that point once you select hazard, police, etc then it only becomes official once you send. Also, there should be an option to use verbal commands to leave alerts for hazards because even though they have passenger mode for typing, finding the correct buttons to report is still distracted driving, it only takes a second for a safe driving scene to become deadly. It would be great if I could figure out how to become an editor too, I have found so many roads that need to be changed on the maps (yes I have watched the editor videos on how to make changes to the map, but there are no links, websites, or instructions on becoming an editor)
