I recommend it
I'm 40, and really have not kept up with music recording tech, but I knew I had to have this to write music on, so begrudgingly, I bought it. And then the clouds opened up to the vista of the sun's hue! It works really well. The only trouble I've had is understanding how to make songs in 6/8. It can't do that. It's also hard to make 8th note triplets and sextuplets. It can be done, you just have to work on it. The time signatures it offers are all in 4s: 3/4,c,5/4,6/4,7/4. So if you are planning a lot of swing music, which can be anything from the polka to jazz be bop to bluegrass full stop, you might want to look elsewhere. On the other hand, if you're good with this stuff, it may work for you. Other than those minor and semi-minor problems, the samples are very real; for example on double bass, there are different kinds: bowed, pizzicato, and others, and all are very, real. I spent years in high school band and college concert and marching band. And I didn't use the light version, I went for the throat and got the $15 full right away. Planning on making a full album on it this year, got 2 songs done for this current album. Yes it is excellent.
Cubasis over Music Studio? No way!
I just read a review here where the writer gladly deleted Music Studio in lieu of Cubasis. He was very proud of the $50 he spent and decided to trash Music Studio in the process. So, he paid $35 more for an app with stability issues and dumped a very stable one and then came here to brag about it! Well, I'll keep Music Studio and continue to produce music without fear of it crashing and with the extra $35 I'll buy several other apps. The only area lacking in this app is the piano sound, but hey, with my extra $35 I can buy Korg's Module or IK Multimedia's iGrand (and all its iap's!). Back to Music Studio. This is a very solid app with tons of instruments to choose from. It has audio and midi recording capabilities and plays very well with AudioBus. I have this app on both my iPhone and iPad running under iOS 8.2 with no problems. You cannot go wrong here. So don't listen to the name brand fanboys, listen to the musicians who have used this one for years with no problems.
It's been trumped by cubasis
On so I HAD ON an iPhone 5 an an iPad Air1. NOT ANY MORE .... just bit it and got cubasis for 50$ a few weeks and it actually works with audio bus and iaa plugins and it can handle it and it's easy to delete unused audio files... And it WORKS. I can have Figure going, Samplr, Ikaossolator, and my vocalsmcoming in from audio bus and allll of them going to their own tracks with four plugins like Mastering land PeQ on them nanditnfreaking hangs... Omg. Deleted. Sorry Yusuf Studio... Catch up
First the fact that it keeps audio files you delete on your drive with no option of deleting when you deleted is lame. Secondly it used to not play back audio when adding more tracks but it does do that now. This is one that will actually, Went to two audio bus, well actually put the different instruments onto their own tracks instead of like, for GarageBand if you run a few synths and drum machines through audio bus to GarageBand, It'll all go to the same track. Not with this one. But it just crashes...
